CHBUKI

CHBUKI

**Basic Story Spoilers.** Overall: 6.5/10 This show had a lot of hate at the beginning because it's a very cliche story right from the get go filled with tropes. Essentially, it's about the eternal fight between humans and non-humans (mainly demons), and the heroes/mad beings that lead them. Story Construction/Plot: 6/10 Construction-wise, the story is a fantasy version of the Overpowered Character Trope that we've ironically seen re-popularized by the trope deconstruction in One Punch Man. Instead of a bald-headed normie gaining superpowers through a crap-load of basic exercise living in the modern world, we follow OP character Anos Voldigoad, Demon King of Tyranny, leader of (obviously) the Demon faction, fighting against the undying Spirit Saint, Hero Kanon, leading the Humans. This battle has lasted as long as time itself, with the Hero's special ability of regeneration, he comes back to life even upon defeat and fights against the Demon Army time and time again. But plot-twist! Demon King of Tyranny Anos Voldigoad is a pacifist (?!) The Demon King invites the Hero Kanon to his castle to parley. The two strike a deal. The demon king is sick of senseless war. He's actually a benevolent king and is distraught at the death of his Demon subjects, and so he offers the Hero Kanon a way to end the fighting, offering to lay down his life and magic energy to create a magical rift between the Human Realm and the Demon Realm to keep the two sides at bay. Being the almighty Demon King, of course he is not going to simply die with no plan. He has developed a form of magic that will regenerate his spirit over the course of 2,000 years. And so, the Hero and Demon King come to terms to stop the fighting in the hopes that the two sides will lose their appetite for war and destruction in the 2,000 year peace, and the moved Kanon swears to the Demon King that after the 2,000 year regeneration period of the Demon King's spirit, the Hero Kanon should also reincarnate and they should be friends in a time of peace. Of course, despite the sacrifice of the Demon King in hopes of peace, not everything goes to plan. Anos Voldigoad reincarnates in a time where all records of the promise between the Hero and Demon King have been forgotten. Something is afoot! Follow the Demon King in his quest to uncover what happened in the 2,000 years he was regenerating while navigating the new world and the various new problems that have arisen such as the aristocracy, classism, racism, and dark plots! Animation: 6/10 The animation was perfectly normal. No particularly jarring scenes, but nothing particularly striking either. Overall it's a cleanly drawn anime that shouldn't distract your eyes too much. The character designs are fairly simple, and the magic is displayed with highly detailed symbols for the most part that might interest people who like that kind of thing. Characters: 5/10 Being a one cour show (13 eps) there are limitations to how deeply you can go into individual character arcs. The attempt is made to show the basic stories for the most important characters, but it has to be said that some characters are left on dry land in the end... One might end up wondering why certain characters were treated as being so important without getting enough development. Audio/Music: 6.5/10 A purely subjective matter, but I personally found the OP/ED to be great. If I were simply basing my rating on the opening and ending, I would have given them a 7 or maybe a 7.5. There's nothing in particular amazing about them, but they are great songs that both fit very well with the story if you understand the lyrics. Both are J-Rock, but the ED singer Kusunoki Tomori does very well with some powerful vocals. The band that plays the OP, CIVILIAN, is reminiscent of other J-Rock bands that do anime songs, and it's a very familiar sound for anyone who watches enough anime. The problem with the music in Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha is that there are some parts of the show that involve singing... that doesn't really need to be there.... It's not good. Key Takeaways: I shortly mentioned it in the Review Summary, but really the show has a rough ending thanks to the one cour pacing. It really needed more time to expand on the story. Some characters could have been given a better handling. The rush to the ending leaves a bitter taste in your mouth. For a story that has a 2,000 year period of mystery to start delving into, it doesn't take advantage of the use of lore and leaves a lot on the table. Baseline: If you're looking for something simple to watch, I could possibly recommend Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha, but you have to go in with low expectations. Essentially, the appeal of this show is based in the main character Anos Voldigoad's quirkiness as a truly OP schemer. Following him as he gains followers and learns more about the new world that resulted from his decision to sacrifice his life. Another cour would have really helped the story, but it feels like they've closed the door with the way they closed out this first season.

Countless amounts of anime are out there where the central focus is the overpowered main protagonist alongside loads of waifus. Most of these tend to get boring in the long run or quite fast, barley passing an episode or two. Unless you are like me once upon a time where I was fully dedicated to torturing myself by finishing up everything I put on my plate. That being said, rarely did I find any of those entries worth my time or all that fun. It was just me being stubborn and telling myself this, which is good when nothing actually was worth it. I have seen more than a fair share of these kinds of anime, but only a few have hit the right marks. It's been a norm that every season, a big chunk of the selection goes to typical fantasy anime. Out of them, more or less everything gets a place in the dropped or the trash can. But by a stroke of miracle, a solid show does actually get dropped someday. One was Cautious Hero, released a few seasons ago, and made me pumped about seeing where its story will go. Yes, I am talking positively about those classic light novel's where the title tend to be blown out of proportion when it comes to length. Now we got another such title, which is "Maou Gakun no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-tachi no Gakkou e Kayou." Don't expect me to write that long and unnecessary title over and over again. I will just call it MisfitMaou since it's short and still informative to an extent. MisfitMaou starts after 2000 years later after the war against humans, and the demon had passed. The former ancient progenitor, the demon Lord Anos, is reincarnated as a misfit student. Not gonna get into it too much, but basically, instead of being with the royals, he messes up on his test and ends in the class for misfits. Anos is the backbone of MisfitMaou and makes the show so damn fun. He got acalm and collected attitude at the surface, nothing like a real demon lord. But when he does get enraged, he can be vicious and merciless. Anos is such a good and gentle guy who cares about his people and does not throw any hands at the humans unless someone forces him. Just goes to make those moments when Anos get down to business mighty satisfying, and it's incredible fun. Yes, Anos is overpowered, but calling it even extreme is not a sort of justice. He can literally blink someone out of existence, destroy enemies with his heartbeat or cause actual unimaginable miracles that make no sense in the grand scheme of things. Even so, those overused tropes of being invincible never seem to get old for me. The story itself is nothing to write home about, but it's addicting and lots of fun in other areas. For one, MisfitMaou's got a solid but typical waifu cast. Misha is the quiet and shy type, while Sasha is the tsundere (my best girl). Both make some romance progress. That's right, we don't have to wait untill the end of the story and get some sorry excuse of romance development that doesn't leave one sated as you'd hoped. Anos is fully aware of the girls' feelings from early on. When it comes to the overarching narrative of MisfitMaou, to cut a long story short. Someone replaced the history with a fake demon lord. Now it's up to Anos to find out who it could've been and restore things to its proper order. It's been a blast to watch MisfitMaou from start to finish, despite how simplistic and shoddy the premise truly is. Other areas, such as action, Anos, and the waifu, were handled well. We got a good side cast that feels necessary and is not suddenly long since been forgotten. There are some laughably bad executions of plot elements, one of which is the tension of a dire situation. It's just poorly handled and lacks that oomph of genuineness, it ruins the moment's flow in question. At one point, a character was playing the bad guy role, but it was never convincing and fell flat on its face. Many others of such segments are scattered across the anime adaptation. Also, the main bad guy was such a boomer that made me want to rip his head of an revive him to do it over again. Besides that, it's really not all that bad and could've been far worse. For a typical fantasy, I gotta say the production was decent. I didn't notice many derps, and the animation was okay. Overall, if you're like me who enjoys your overpowered badass main guy and harem with cute waifus, then give it a go. Sasha was the true best girl for me tho. What can I say? I am so damn weak when it comes to tsundere and if you add twintails on top of that then that's one killer combo. Well, you get the point. MisfitMaou was certainly a good time for me, despite its shortcoming later down the road. I would certainly watch a sequel if it dropped at some point.

Summary: Haters gunna hate, yet somehow, I watched each episode 3 times and felt it got better each time. Based on the tags of 'ACTION' 'COMEDY' and 'FANTASY' attached to the show it has the first and last in spades but is lacking in the Comedy department. Don't be misled, it's not a parody nor is it as self-aware as something like KonoSuba. The show also has a pompous, self-aggrandizing, cocky and absurdly Overpowered Main character... which is precisely how you'd expect a scathing comment would start yet this character was written with that exactly in mind. The show manages to plant necessary information for its plot points sometimes multiple episodes in advance and executes all the main plot triggers it sets leaving little behind that isn't particularly useful. This is especially well noted as while a growing number of shows have filler and wasted time this is kept to a minimum throughout the show. Animation and Sound are, at their worst, up to par but generally above average and I found on rewatching the show that the non-diegetic sounds worked excellently at seamlessly enhancing entertainment value. However, some of the 'diegetic' sounds (read: attempt at singing) were cringey and probably better off left out with only the final use being best described as 'average'. Plot and concepts: As far a story building blocks go it's a reasonably typical "Magic Academy"/"OP Hero" styled affair with the twist and hook being that we are observing from the demons side as the reincarnated Demon King himself. Given that a role or perspective reversal can often be refreshing I welcomed a change from always being on the 'Hero’s' shoulder. While it didn’t get into exploring the nitty-gritty of being a demon lord or what it is to be 'Evil' it does reasonably well establish not to judge a race based on its name. The 'Demonic' race depicted is an, albeit weak, demonstration of how our perception can be shifted by being shown the other side. While I will freely admit that this show doesn't explore in-depth any themes that can be easily related back to the real world I will leave with my opinion that this isn't necessary to make an enjoyable or engaging story. Plot Execution: Overall plot twists were well executed and were successfully able to blind-side the viewer even after being well hinted at upon rewatch with a minimal amount of truly unnecessary filler. As mentioned previously there isn't any attempt at breaking the rulebook or deep-diving any themes however it's my opinion that while the envelope wasn't pushed the executed elements were done to a high enough standard that the story was able to have taken what could have very well been a boring copy/paste show and keep the viewer's attention and engagement. As far as whether this will entertain others, I have little doubt that those who pay attention and enjoy this genre of show (Magic Academy/OP Hero) will find this show very worthwhile. During re-watching I was able to pick up 1 minor plot hole which could be a result of over-analysation on my part however for the majority of viewers there will be nothing to worry about as by-and-large it is free from contradictions and major holes. Though do bear in mind that being the nature of the MC to be overpowered the use of Deus-ex-Machina and what some would call plot-bullshittery do get served in large dollops. Characters: While there are no 'new' character tropes nor are any 'mould-breaking' I didn't find them to be egregiously generic or bland. Most characters got fleshed out to a reasonable extent where the viewer could understand the motivation for their actions. I also found that most actions taken seemed mostly consistent with their displayed personalities and traits. Again I feel it necessary to reiterate that while the envelope wasn't pushed the executed character tropes were filled out to a sufficiently high standard that the characters never really felt bland, boring or like they were acting out of character to push the story forward. Some characters, especially in the latter portion of the show from the Human faction could have done with some more development, screen time and action however with only 13 episodes at the show's disposal I can understand the decision to potentially decrease side character development in favour of completing the story overall. Audio-Visual: I have very little qualifications with which to commentate on the Visual side of the show as I'm personally not that well attuned to art styles nor do I commonly notice animation glitches that often. However, Silverlink is reasonably well known for decent quality animation and this title does not appear to be the exception. I will applaud that every 'source' that was shown when casting magic had a unique design which was a nice touch and that there was consistency moving between episodes with design elements. This even extends to spells that are reused (Gatom, Gyze, Asla etc.) additionally scene re-use was rather minimal and, if a location was reused there was typically new art drawn. Moving to the Audio aspect, the non-diegetic soundstage was well mastered and typically never felt like it overpowered the characters while speaking or during action scenes. As for diegetic sounds, I found that while reasonable this is where some improvements could be made. Some SFX for spells were rather generic as were several other 'interaction' type sounds (metal on metal, spell breaking etc.) Finally, we come to the massive --BUT-- in this category and that is the 'Fan club' and their songs, this diegetic 'sound-track' (if I dare call it that) truly makes one wish they were deaf and I almost died from a cringe-induced cardiac arrest. Luckily, if you're not someone who enjoys non-idol cast members singing this only happens 3 times in the course of the show with the final time being a large step above the others as it's more pushed into the BGM and less focused upon. That being said, for my personal enjoyment of the show, I'm willing to mostly overlook this due to how well the non-diegetic sounds were mixed in and were able to modulate and change the feel of the scenes in addition to it only being egregiously bad 2 of 3 times. Overall, did I enjoy the show? Yes, very much, as did my watch partner. Do I recommend the show? Absolutely, especially for those that enjoy overpowered MCs. For those that don't like an OP MC then you're probably in the wrong place. Is it a 'must-watch' or 'required viewing' show for everyone? Nah, no way, for people like myself it scratches an itch you didn't know you had but it's certainly not a show for everyone, especially not those looking for a deep plot or commentary on social or story themes. PS: Score weighting here includes point removal for singing and will vary from personal rating.

Well for some background, I first met this series by reading a couple of chapters of the manga, I found it stupid and hilarious at the same time and read all of the chapters during that time. Of course, as the manga wasn't that popular, the translation speed was quite slow, meaning that I quickly lost interest and moved onto other manga. When they announced the anime, I was ecstatic and pleasantly surprised. This meant that I knew what I was getting into: a show with a ridiculously overpowered main character and I loved it. **Visuals:** All things considered, the animation wasn't all too bad and I have seen worse. Didn't add to the story nor did it take away from enjoying the show. **5/10** **Sound:** The soundtrack was forgettable and I didn't particularly care for the opening or ending (didn't hate it either). **5/10** **Story:** Well this is where things get tricky... On one hand, you have an OP MC, meaning that there is no narrative tension at all. On the other hand, the show doesn't try to hide it and the OPness is so obvious that it's more obvious than a person in a clownsuit driving up in a Ferrari and slapping you with a fish. And the story as hilarious as if you saw someone getting slapped like that on Youtube. But to be honest, the story isn't all too amazing and sometimes it feels like Anos is collecting a harem of tropes, i.e. the tsundere and kuudere, not to mention the fanclub... **6/10** **Enjoyment:** Of course, the most important thing about a show is how much I enjoyed it. Also, please don't take one person's opinion too seriously, everyone has their own taste and people always disagree with what shows are great. I personally feel like Carnival Phantasm is a masterpiece and deserves a 10/10 but does that mean that I recommend it to everyone? No, to enjoy the show you need some knowledge about Fate and Tsukihime to get the jokes. So my point is that what one person enjoys might not necessarily mean that you will enjoy it. My suggestion is that you just watch the first 3ish episodes to figure out if it is something you want to watch and move on from there. Anyways, back to the review, the bottom line is that the show was surprisingly fun, I enjoyed watching an OP MC beat up bad guys and stomping over everything without impunity. **8/10** So my final score is tentatively a 6/10. Still working on my rating scale and this might change. But for now, I rate it slightly above average (5/10) and I recommend the show to people that enjoy OP MCs or want to turn off their brains and just watch an action-packed show (although the action isn't anything noteworthy). There are better shows in this season though (Summer 2020) and you might be better off watching something else if you have limited time.

“Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha: Shijou Saikyou no Maou no Shiso, Tensei shite Shison-Tachi no Gakkou e” or “The Misfit of Demon Academy” can be summarized into a single phrase: “Oh, did you think killing me would kill me?” It pretty much explains how terrible and messy the worldbuilding and the characters are. It simultaneously shows its true colors by being the standard fantasy trash show that you’re not supposed to take seriously and enjoy the ride. Let’s break it down. Story (2/10): As I said before, the show was pretty trashy from start to finish, and one of the large offenders for the story was its worldbuilding. So much of the “fantasy” aspects, ranging from magic to mythical items, made no sense at all. There is no explanation to where the magic comes from, how it works, what types of magic there are. Just isekai-esque magic being pulled out of nowhere to drive the story forward. The only reason I didn’t give the story a one is the promise of the “end goal” of this anime and also the mini-arcs that are genuinely interesting. But a lot of the exciting mini-arcs and “end goal” is shrouded by the OP protagonist doing OP protagonist things to resolve the conflict as soon as possible, which takes away the… magic (pun intended) of the stories. Characters (2/10): Just like the show, the characters are all trashy. The main characters besides our protagonist, are all just typical troupes you see in fantasy harem shows. You have your kuudere white-haired girl (haven’t seen that before), you see the dynamic red tsundere girl (haven’t seen that before), and you have your friendly handsome guy side male character (haven’t seen that before) all following the protagonist like the god he is. If the main characters are that bad, the side characters are even worse, but for comedic reasons. The parents, even though I liked them, are just the “nice parenting young couple” (although you don’t see that in many anime), and he even has his FAN CLUB that SINGS PRAISES ABOUT HIM and LUSHES OVER HIM. The introduction of this “fan club harem” was when I realized that I shouldn’t take this anime seriously. As for the antagonist… were there antagonists? I honestly don’t remember minus the unreasonably go-crazy villain at the end that gets the “redeemed after his defeat” treatment like most heroes vs. villains shows are. But as for antagonists goes, the best antagonists in this story were probably the plot twist reveal antagonists that aren’t antagonists that made the anime somewhat reasonable. It was just to the point where we already knew that the main character would win because he was so stupidly overpowered that I can’t even bother remembering that real antagonists exist in this story. As for our protagonist, although I bashed him a lot for being the overpowered MC he is, no spoilers, of course, I do find his “twist” interesting where his motives aren’t of a typical demon king. He does carry the show with his charm and dark demeanor where the show, which is still really bad, didn’t become appalling because of his shithousery at times. Art (6/10): Although I think this is just a sign of the times, I like the art and the art style for this anime. The main characters are iconically distinct in their ways, and the magic is super pretty to watch. But the best thing about the art in this anime was almost the lack of CGI used. Again, it was nothing special, and there was the occasional noticeable one sprinkled in; I appreciate how decent the CGI looked in this anime. Sound (5/10): As for the sound, on the other hand, there’s nothing special going on. The OP/EDs were average at best, the OST didn’t stand out that much, and the voice acting was pretty standard for all the characters and their tropes. Enjoyment (4/10): As I said before, this is a show you should take with a grain of salt. Nothing’s meant to be taken seriously, just a standard isekai show that’s supposed to be a fun and hilarious watch from start to finish. I knew that, and even though I was supposed to enjoy the show for what it was, I just couldn’t. Although I did enjoy some good laughs and, at one point, genuinely was interested in what was going to happen, it became incredibly dull from time to time. It showed its true colors as the generic OP isekai (not-isekai) harem show of the season. Should you watch “The Misfit of Demon King Academy?” Uhhhhh, the only reason I saw it was because it was a seasonal anime, so if you’re looking for a full-length season watch, you should probably skip this one.

From first impressions, this anime looks like another trash power fantasy magical harem high school anime. And in essence, it is. The characters are unnatural, the plot goes for nonsensical twists and everything is just generic. But *But* If you take in what is actually happening and look below the surface of its lackluster elements, you will find an anime that is ridiculously dumb in everything it is trying to do. It is so dumb, it is glorious. Let’s start with the formalities: Anos as the demon king gets tired of constantly winning, so to stop the pointless war, he lets the hero kill him so that Anos gets reincarnated two thousands years later to live a peaceful life. What he instead finds is a demon society that is peaceful but way weaker than two thousand years ago. Seeing that it is his duty to serve his people, Anos enrolls into the Demon King Academy, an academy that trains students for that one day one of these students can become a Demon King. Anos, the Demon King, entrolls into this Academy, but due to Anos being too powerful his power can’t be measured, thus he is labeled as a misfit. So begins the journey of the Misfit Demon King in the academy alongside his first friend, the sweet girl, Misha. Honestly, for how the eventual setting very standard is, the set-up is genuinely interesting. A king getting reincarnated, seeing his own kingdom being weakened two thousand years later is enough of a driving force for some good interactions, and boy are those interactions fun. Anos is our protagonist, and on paper he should be really standard: An OP underdog which is always right but still relatable, but in reality it is that exact description minus the relatability. Anos is an OP character who is always right. No matter what he does, he always has intentions of getting to his goal. He always wins the match and the other always gets stumped by Anos’ power. If a bad guy does bad stuff, Anos gives the bad guy a proper punishment. And Anos has fun with it too: Every single frame he is in he has a smug face, showing that he knows that he is always right. I love Anos, he is straightforward, loves to be an asshole to bad guys, is nice to good guys and always looks smug while dominating opponents. With Anos being such a good character, it is no surprise that everything in the anime revolves around Anos. What really makes this anime great for me tho is that the most ridiculous stupid things happen, but everything is taken 100% seriously. In episode 2, we see Anos pick up a whole-ass castle, fidget spin it on his finger and then throw it like a basketball. Everything in this scene, from the direction to the music, is made so that there are no comedic elements involved, the scene is directed like we are genuinely supposed to think this is the coolest shit ever. The whole anime is directed like this: Bad guy thinks he can take on Anos easily, Anos pulls out some ridiculous bullshit, direction makes it seem like the coolest thing ever. The lack of self awareness in Misfit of the Demon King Academy makes it so that you can’t take anything serious of what is happening, and it is hilarious. I looked forward to each episode to see what Anos would do this time, and each episode had something deliciously ridiculous which is taken 100% seriously by the anime. So is this anime a comedy? Well, there are some genuinely comedic moments in the anime, like the scene when Anos is born, but the truly comedic moments are the ridiculous scenes which are taken 100% seriously. It is hard to really judge if this anime is unintentionally funny or intentionally made ridiculous to make it funny, but whatever the intentions were from the makers of this show, the end result is all the same: It is ridiculously stupid, thus ridiculous fun. I am not even gonna talk about the mediocre side-characters or its average production values, because this anime clearly shouldn’t be judged on those terms. Misfit of The Demon King Academy is a borderline comedy. It stupid ridiculous plot and action scenes makes it one hell of a fun ride, and it is a ride that I can recommend. If you can turn your brain off while watching an anime and can just appreciate the ridiculouslessness of situations, then you should absolutely watch this anime. If you are here for a genuinely good show, look elsewhere.

I started watching this anime because Gigguk said it was the biggest pile of overpowered wish-fulfillment garbage that he ever watched and boy did this show deliver. After watching it over and over again in a short amount of time I'm still not sure if this is a parody still. I would also like to remind the watchers of this show and the reader of this review, _somebody wrote this_. If you like over powered MC trash you'll enjoy this. Maximum enjoyment can be gained if you know a good amount of light novel tropes. If I could give a negative score I totally would because this digs it's head in so far in the trash it comes out being genuinely enjoyable a majority of the time. This anime seems like some alien or extra dimensional creature wanted to make a hyper popular light novel and threw together tropes, themes, and writing concepts without understanding how they work. The funny thing is that there are some genuinely good writing elements within this story that is overshadowed by the trashy premise the over powered main cast. When it comes to the technical aspects, the show is competent. The _faster than light_ action is usually the same three frames pushed around the screen. There is also some skimping when it comes to these large weighty actions in the animation. The music does it's job. I don't really remember it doing anything amazing however this leads to one of my biggest bugbears. . . This is purely subjective but the fan club was the only thing that made me hate the anime. If this had one punch man season one technical aspects got rid of the fan club I would rate this 100/100. The one thing that made me cringe heavily rather than laugh until my sides were orbiting. However I do recognize the fan club is needed for . . . the themes. The themes are pretty strong and in your face. It's about love, friendship, family and all those other tropes you have in the current anime climate. If that's what you want it's there. While watching you realize you aren't watching a story, you're watching a string of tropes and thematic elements and there is little to no chaff what so ever and that's part of what makes this show so amazing to watch. If you read a lot of the other reviews, the pacing is brought up. I would say that the pacing is _consistent_. As I said before the anime goes from trope to trope or thematic element to thematic element with _nothing_ in-between. Events happen at a breakneck pace with no breathing room and I find it _amazing_. I don't get the ending being rushed criticism because the entire plot seems like it could keep pace with our over powered main character. Now if I were to grade or rate the story and characters seriously I would straight up give those elements one or two out of tens and call it a day. However the story is actually around a three or four out of ten and with some fixes to the narrative and the pacing you could get it to a seven which I find frankly amazing that this toxic waste could make it to something useable with some easy fixes. Again though there are some interesting writing elements with set up and pay offs and some interesting small details that _someone_ was paying attention to. However the characters are still trash but nobody cares because anyone who's watching this for enjoyment knows it's a terrible terrible trash fire and the worse it is and the more it plays it straight the more I enjoy it. If you want the equivalent of B movie shlock of over powered main character light novel adaptations that plays all it's terrible tropes straight come watch this. You will find nothing that would be able to represent the over powered main character genre better than this.

How often do you get a good night's sleep? I never get the sleep I deserve. After watching so many bad anime, I stay up all night tossing and turning in bed. A lack of sleep can cause depression, anxiety, weight gain, etc. No sleep medication has helped me. Melatonin, Benadryl, Trazadone, even horse-tranquilizers. Nothing worked... until now. I finally found the cure for insomnia, and its name is The Misfit of Demon King Academy. Hi, I'm RebelPanda and I've made it my job to ensure YOU get the good night's sleep you deserve. Just turn on an episode of The Misfit of Demon King Academy and you'll feel drowsy in seconds! No anime has made me fall asleep faster since Kenja no Mago! It blends every generic power-fantasy anime trope into a single episode. Remarkable! There are no stakes, no one can die, there is infinite plot armor, and the visuals are fucking awful! Magic circles are thrown across the screen with photoshop, CGI fire is copy-pasted ontop of hideous background art, and all the character art is overexposed. The premise has been done hundreds of times, which is what makes it so effective. You'll never need to count sheep again after you watch this. The demon king Anos Voldigoad fought a 2,000-year war in a non-descript medieval world, but he became so bored that he let his archrival kill him! So relatable! Watching his backstory made me want to die of boredom too! 2,000 years later, Anos is reincarnated as a baby to marry a couple of 14-year-old girls. And they're also... his ancestors!? Don't bother calling the FBI, they'll just fall asleep too! He's perfect. So of course, he does not develop at all. Even though he murdered thousands of people, he never needs to reconcile that. Thankfully they didn't forget the most important trope; every woman irrationally loves him! I can't blame them. Who wouldn't love this man? He's so charismatic, rebellious, kind, confident, handsome, attractive—oh dear, look at me. I'm in love with Anos too! You deserve a good night's sleep. For the small price of $79.99, you can sleep for 2,000 years, just like Anos! Reduce stress, improve concentration, and get an eternal slumber. Call 1-800-420-ANOS for your very own subscription! If you don't like it, which is impossible because Anos is perfect, we will give you your money back. Call now and we'll throw in the soundtrack (free stock music) for no extra charge! Side effects may include cringe, drowsiness, and in rare cases... ... As of September 26th, 2020, I have been watching The Misfit of Demon Academy for 13 weeks. Now I only watch one episode a week, but it has changed me irrevocably. This anime haunts my vision, night after night, all I see is Anos violently slaughtering his classmates with a flick of his finger or a heartbeat. They instantly explode in a burst of blood, then he reincarnates them. No one ever dies. There are no stakes. Everything that happens in the world gratifies him. Anos even has his own Fanclub of girls who pray to him like he's a God. Even though his harem of a dozen women has powers, they are useless compared to him. He ALWAYS saves them. Now I just need him to save me too. I can't get this shit out of my head. I can't get out of bed. I'm dependent on this awful anime to function. I thought if I watched more it would make me stay awake. But the more I watch it, the more I wish I could fall asleep. People said this anime is satire because it cuts out all the typical power fantasy bullshit. It doesn't waste time pretending to be deeper than it is. Except, that isn't satire. It isn't subverting anything. It is all the same. The main character is overpowered, all of the girls love him, there's a tsundere, all of the villains are evil for the sake of it. I can't for the life of me understand how someone who disliked Kenja no Mago or Isekai wa Smartphone would like this. If you want pure power fantasy injected straight into your veins, watch this. You will love it. Anyone who watches this show with their brain turned on will realize it's fucking garbage. Once being reincarnated, Anos discovers that hybrid demons like him are an oppressed race. They are subservient to pureblood demons. Anos' fan club/idol group sings a song to empower the hybrid race, to protest their oppressors. Except, the hybrids tell the purebloods to "Know your place," which doesn't combat discrimination. It only replaces it with more racism. Good job! Anos Voldigoad ended racism with more racism! Anos tries to be funny, but all of his jokes fall flat. He always sounds bored and his face never changes. It's like he has a full-house, and he needs to make a poker face. Everyone loves him, he is endlessly powerful, and he slaughters foes with no effort. He pauses after a one-liner like he's waiting for the audience to applaud or laugh. Whoever wrote this light novel needs to not write comedy anymore. I'm sorry your parents never said you're not funny. You unironically wrote a story that congratulates narcissism and racism. This is one of the most shallow, illogical, and condescending anime I've ever watched. Now, where's my apology? The Misfit of Demon King Academy made me exhausted. My life has been ruined because I sleep so much. I've tried to stop watching, but if I skip an episode, I can't fall asleep for the rest of the week. Attempting to stop watching it cold turkey caused me to feel extreme withdrawal. My heart races, my ears ring, I get constant migraines, and I violently vomit. I feel like worms are chewing through my mind. I cannot describe how much I hate this show. Don't make the same mistake I did. The Misfit of Demon King Academy is so bad it will literally rot your brain.
