THIS REVIEW WAS OUR MIXED RECEPTIONS AND CO-WRITTEN BY MY BROTHER, MY FRIENDS WHO LOVE ACTION SPY COMEDY SHOWS/MOVIES AND ANTICIPATED THIS, AND BY YOURS TRULY *contains some meaty spoilers from the anime and hints from the manga/for the second part* I literally do not understand the hype for this one. It’s not bad, actually. At least, I have proven myself right that this show isn’t a masterpiece or a masterclass of media after all. I’m kind of sad that the word, “masterpiece” is being beaten up to death. What does it take to be a show a “masterpiece”? Great story, great characters, great production design, a great message from the author to the audience, and the overall wow factor from the audience, who are enjoying it. It can’t be flawless, but it’s something “perfect”. But all of that is subjective. Does this show meet the corresponding criteria? Let’s see… I have an example scenario: My friend told me about this famous restaurant that’s trending for most people. I went there to check it out. _Me: Waiter, what’s your best-selling dish? Waiter: Tomato Pasta. Me: Is this Tomato Pasta popular in this restaurant? Waiter: Yes._ I ordered that pasta and went for a taste. The taste was just the same and I noticed it was nothing special. My friend asked me how’s the taste of that pasta from that restaurant. I wanted to be honest but I ended up saying, “It’s great…”. I don’t want to admit it was bad. In the end, it’s the same Tomato Pasta all over again, and to be honest, my cooking is better than the restaurant. What’s the lesson from this scenario? There are three things but the last one is at the end of the review: - Just because it’s new and popular, doesn’t mean it’s good. (It applies to others, new, and popular animes) - Not all animes can be enjoyable. Sometimes you need to be critical about it. When this show got an anime adaptation, I remember how I used to make research about this. I went to many forums on the internet, and I was surprised that many manga fans were hyped about this. They said this is a great action, great characters, a great story, and a refreshing action show because it’s a spy story. They even called it the anime version of “Mr. and Mrs. Smith”. I love Mr. and Mrs. Smith, and action spy stories because they made up my childhood even now. Especially it’s an action-spy comedy show, and I’m a massive fan of it. Even bounty hunter stories, police buddy-cop action-comedy like White Chicks and Central Intelligence, thrilling spy-agent stories like Die Hard and Mission Impossible, and criminal heists action stories like Fast and Furious. I went up and read the manga, and I remember the first impression of my older brother while reading. Same as for me and my friends who read the manga. All of us were watching the anime adaptation every weekend. Yes, we were somewhat enjoying it. But at the same time, we found ourselves scratching our heads and asking, “when does it get good?”. This show exceeded amount of shitty hype, that many anime-onlies think this is a “masterpiece” or "anime-onlies aren't prepare for something else", or whatever. But in the end, I think the whole shit deserves a “HYPE BACKLASH”. _[Spy x Fam Narrator Voice:] [Hype Backlash. According to the internet, your friends have been bugging you to watch the latest TV show that everyone's talking about. Every newspaper raves about its originality, well-deserved popularity, and effective mix of comedy and drama, on the front page of the Entertainment section. Critics are rushing to hail it as the re-definition of its genre. After the thirtieth or so "Just watch it already, geez!" and maybe a Hype Aversion stage, you finally give in; you rent the show's first season on DVD, pop it in your player, and lay back to enjoy the latest masterpiece..._ _...Except you come away with a very different opinion than your friends; to you, it's at best a mediocre show with average plots and few laughs or an utterly confusing one with more than enough twists to boggle the mind, a show that isn't the seminal classic everyone's touting it as.]_ Caught that from Google. Thank you for that! Now, where were we..? Spy x Family is an action… Wait, I made a mistake there so let me fix it. *scribble* *scribble* Spy x Garbage is a situational comedy or sitcom, slice of life, drama show that both manga and anime onlies widely anticipated. They said it’s a great and refreshing “action” because it’s rare for action animes to get a spy theme. Fans were cried out of happiness because they wanted an anime adaptation of the “perfect manga” for a long time, and finally, their wish was granted. They said it lives up to the hype and called it a “masterclass and masterpiece” of modern shounen, which is true by the way. Wait, the question is, is it true? I guess? However, I found some problems or flaws that I found the show, not incredibly great. Now the eye has stated, it's time to use my other eye. So the story is about the main character, Anya— Wait, I made a mistake again so let me just fix it… *scribble* *scribble* So the story is about the main character, Twilight. It’s just his codename. He’s a spy from the west and his mission was to create a family to infiltrate an elegant academy. Because there’s this Desmond guy who wanted to start a war between the east and the west camp. But the twisted part was his daughter was a telepath, and his wife a contract killer or assassin. The three of them were from different backgrounds and throughout the story, they somewhat forge a bond to become a family, even though it’s a façade. The premise is quite interesting and intriguing, not gonna lie about that. But throughout, the story and narrative fell flat from a potential masterpiece to a decent/average show. That’s __problem #1__. I remember the manga was promoted as an “action-packed” story. But, the author didn’t intend this show as an action spy story. Instead of getting a Mr. and Mrs. Smith kind of a story, I got a family sitcom show The Simpsons. Most of the parts were like episodic fillers or slice-of-life sitcom moments from the fake Forger family than focusing on the Operation Strix mission. It’s more like, OPERATION STRIPPED. I mean, the story should focus on Operation Strix, since it’s the premise of the show. The exploration of characters is also a great thing, but again, Operation Strix is the main concept of the show. I noticed that most of the scenes were focused on Anya inside the school. The author should’ve named it, “The Daily Life of Anya” or whatever. Now don’t give me that shit when you say “This show focus only on the wholesomeness of the Forger family”, because if that’s so, the show should be intended as a gag show in the first place. Now back on the reason why she seemed the primary main character of the show and the supposedly main characters are getting sidetracked. Even in the manga, it’s not focused. It’s full of fillers or side quests that aren’t related to the main mission and to the point that it went nowhere. It kinda remembers me of what happened in Black Lagoon. I don’t mind the comedy aspects, since comedy makes the action more entertaining. Even the moments of them being a fake family. But the author somewhat forgot that his work is supposed to be an action spy. The action spy story lacked the depth that would make the show more thrilling and exciting. I failed to see this show as an action, it was somewhat a gag sitcom show. If I will compare this show to a similar anime, it would be Angel Beats! or Gintama. Yes, Gintama is an action and I’ll consider it to be great for what it had because the gorilla intended his work to be a gag show from the start. In Angel Beats!, they had the same formula but the difference was the show lacked some exploration of the characters, and the “action” element in Spy x Fam’s case. The anime does not capture any magic about any relationship beyond the ones in the school unless you are a horndog. The intentionality of the series is just being a memebait (ELEGANTO, WAKU WAKU, HEH) and thrive in the economic success of an already successful IP. __Problem #2__ are plot inconsistencies, and lacking a common concept of realism and basic knowledge. You see, one of the objectives in Operation Strix was either to get Anya into some superclass section or to be friends with the son of Desmond guy. But rather than focusing on that objective, why don’t just Twilight infiltrate the school or the enemy instead? He can disguise himself as one of Desmond’s henchmen or whatever and he’s a “spy”, right? I bet he’s professionally trained for that, and a spy is like a ninja. He should know that his time for the mission is running out and Desmond’s plan can be carried out anytime he likes. He’s so-called the master of disguise and he completed any missions, even if it’s light or difficult. The second one is the setting. The story was set in a European setting. I’m not being racist or sexist, but to be honest, how the heck there are no black European people there? I don’t understand the reason why but it’s like in a setting, only guys are there but no women. I don’t know if I’m going to believe this kind of concept, but this was kind of ridonkeylous (eh, it’s just a minor issue so let’s move on). __The third one__ is about Anya. How the heck a 6-year-old child, can act, do, and think like an adult, with a professional status? Yes, she’s an esper, she can read minds but does she know what the heck is the meaning of those thoughts she reads? She’s a child in the first place, but how she can help her parents in their missions perfectly? It’s freaking ridiculous somewhat, no offense. __The fourth one__ is about Yor. In episode 2, before Twilight’s engagement, they were somewhat attacked by some gangsters because of the treasure. I seriously couldn’t believe that Yor didn’t know that they were attacked by some gangster who fired some guns at them. She received a hand grenade pin as a ring on their engagement, and she somewhat didn’t notice that it was a hand grenade pin. Yes, she’s dumb. But come on, she’s a contract killer, right? I’m sure she encountered and fought many co-assassins and gangsters who carried guns and explosives. I’m sure she had seen a gun or an explosive and how it works, right? And where does she see a psychiatrist that is being chased and shooting guns? Dumb, right? __The fifth one__ is this, in episode 5 when Yor confronts Loid in a battle. How the fuck didn’t he notice when Yor was great in fistfights? She wounded his face with she kicked him and he didn’t feel her dark aura at all? Are you sure he’s a spy? I’m sure a spy is intelligent. __The sixth one__ is when Yor’s brother, Yuri visited their home. Remember the part when he asked why Yor didn’t say to his baby brother that she’s already married? And Yor said while smiling, “I forgot!”. And then he asked again, and then she said, “I forgot!”. And then he accepted it. What the fuck? It’s a lame excuse that Yor just forgot to tell Yuri that she’s married. And the funny part is, they were married for already a year! Did Yuri forget that he’s police from a secret organization? I doubt he knows what’s the difference between an excuse and a truth. I almost forgot, do you remember the part when Yuri told about his childhood with his sister? When he was a child, he saw Yor when she came home, drenched in blood. I repeat, drenched in blood. Yes, he was a child, but didn’t he think about it when he became the police? I don’t get it. Police that acting so tough in front of other people or criminals, but an idiot. Even I will freak out if I see my older sister that her clothes drenched in blood. Much of course, I would be so worried. Well, I guess the apple doesn’t fall far from a tree. There were many ridonkeylous moments I’ve seen from the manga that I want to mention, but it’s the first part of the show so I’m not giving any spoilers. Even with those ridonkeylous moments I’ve mentioned so far, there were many decent scenes from the show. There were moments and cheesy dialogues that were easily predictable, and somewhat felt a bit cringing. I mean, if you want to shut your brains off while watching this, it could be this so-called, “wholesome” for you. But for us, was pretty… okay, I guess. Heck, I don’t know what’s the meaning of wholesome anymore. It’s beaten up to death. As for the comedy… I hate to say it but it’s very plain average, and it’s quite repetitive so far. It was 95% more predictable than I expected. Not gonna lie, the jokes from the anime were trying hard from the manga. In other words, the jokes from the manga were pretty much better. I’ve seen many comedies shows that were pure masterclass of comedy telling. The comedy factor of Gintama, Grand Blue, Baka to Test, School Rumble, etc., and even the second season of Komi-san’s comedy made me impressed so far. I know comedy shows can be a “masterpiece”, but this show ain’t going to surpass that, even by comedy standards. If you lived inside a rock and you’re new to comedy, you might find it a “masterpiece”. It can be hit or missed for some people, but generally, it’s still average. But not that garbage or trying hard either. I think Anya was somewhat “carried” the whole show in terms of comedy. The author made her a comic relief but it could be better if all the characters share the same screentime of comedy. _“But Anya is so cute and it’s loved by many so why you didn’t just enjoy it?”_ So what if Anya is cute? Haven’t you seen any cute characters or kids from other animes in your entire life? Haven’t you seen any more entertaining shows than this? Again, only those who lived under a rock or first-timers will only enjoy this. Why are filler episodes soulless content featuring Anya doing silly stuff and bloated action all the time? Because that is its creative comfort of the series, that is what the audience wants, that is fanservice, Anya is fanservice. Anya is fanservice. Get it on your brain. Fanservice is not just hot girls. Anya is fanservice. She's somewhat a meme, and this is a meme anime. A meme anime is creating content that is easily manipulable to promote the anime. Stop using fanservice as a vague criticism. Anya is fanservice. And almost forgot, she kinda annoyed me to the highest level. She acts like a spoiled brat from the rest of the show (even in future stories). And there’s this Desmond kid. His character became one of those male tsundere when he’s in denial mode to his relationship with Anya. Not gonna lie, that part became one of those cliched and cringe moments in my whole years of watching. I don’t know why the fuck they did that, but still, no friendship had been developed between them in the story. The close relationship part of Yor and Loid was pretty fine, as they were gradually close to each other from strangers from different backgrounds. I predicted what would happen if the moment comes when they found each other’s hidden status and agendas. But I’m sure it will happen in the manga. The characters were pretty good though but it needs more depth and development, as well as the story. The production quality was decent. I didn’t notice the signature artwork of both Wit and Cloverworks. They were doing great in adapting the manga. But I think it could be better if only Wit adapted it. Because most of the animation sequences looked like from Cloverworks. The detail and style of every panel were quite lacking, but the character designs were good. It’s not very detailed, but it’s decent enough for the show. The sound is very decent enough. It reminds me of Cowboy Bebop and Black Lagoon. The OP and ED were pretty decent enough, but it’s somewhat forgettable. The seiyuu performances were really good, especially of Saori Hayami and Takuya Eguchi. They made me every weekend great because they reminded me how they used to work in Oregairu, as Hachiman and Yukinoshita. Although, I found the performance of Anya very annoying. She’s not that kind of annoying from the manga but it could be better. Overall, we enjoyed it, despite those problems we’ve said. But it seems we will not be considered it as one of the best action anime, because of the misconception that this is an action spy comedy show. This is one of the poorly representations of the action genre. I had to admit, I've been brainwashed by the shit that surrounded it, but it’s not bad either. It had some ups and many downs. In other words, the story is still lacking and it’s one of those not-so-solid shows. If you come to this show and expect this a great action spy, then please don’t watch this if you don’t want to get disappointed. This show is another type of those show that might you want to rely on for your enjoyment. Just watch it from your judgment. This show overall is pretty decent. Not a garbage, special, or masterpiece. But sadly, to say, it could be better. All in all, this whole garbage is __MISLEADING.__ I have eight words to say before ending this review, as the third hing that I learned and advice for the potential viewers out there; __EXPECT. DISAPPOINTMENT. AND. YOU. WILL NEVER. GET. DISAPPOINTED__ Thank you for reading and see you see at my next review! ___Story: 5/10 Animation: 8/10 Characters: 5/10 Sound: 7/10 Entertainment factor (Action: 2/5, Comedy: 2/5): 4/10 Enjoyment: 6/10 Score: 6/10___
It’s no masterpiece, but you know why this show is so good? Because it gives me nostalgia towards my childhood. It makes me remember the Saturdays when I was a kid, and just plopped on the couch when I woke up to watch my favourite cartoons. Spy X Family is like a Saturday morning cartoon to me, in that it’s as ridiculous like a kid’s show, but ends up feeling a bit of mature than them. Another reason is that it’s so meme-worthy, since Anya expressions are like a memer’s best friend. I was impressed with the solid animation and groovy OST as well. As an anime-only watcher, I expected a bit more from this cour, but we’re just getting started, because you and I all know, there’s way more to come. My grading criteria: Story: /25 Art: /10 Music: /10 Characters: /20 Enjoyment /15 Thematic Execution /20 STORY: 19.5/25 The thing that stands out is obviously how unique it is compared to other anime. They managed to make a spy show about a “pretend family”, they make it cute and childish looking, but also make it really refreshing to watch. It doesn’t try to have depth, and be very thought-provoking, but what it does is charm the audience through sheer ridiculousness, with the grenade pin proposal being the pinnacle of its absurdity. This show doesn’t need depth to be honest, it’s fun even with it being a simple story. Though, some things would benefit from further explanation, like how Anya can do her mind reading, and the backstory of all the characters. Of course, I’d love to see some more plot development next cour. ART: 9.4/10 WIT Studio and Cloverworks did a solid job of animating this series for sure. Props to director Kazuhiro Furuhashi for a solid job at creating fun cinematography and over the top scenes, like the dodgeball scene. MUSIC: 9.6/10 The OST really evokes a sense of a spy atmosphere, while being fun and bubbly at the same time. Opening is solid, but the ending “Kigeki” by Gen Hoshino was by far my favourite ED this season, with the vibes fitting perfectly to the show, and the lyrics were really wholesome, for example, the lyrics of the chorus of the ending in English started with “Shall we hold hands and head home? What should we eat tonight? Here’s what happened today”, which feels like such a wholesome family dynamic. CHARACTERS: 17.5/20 The characters are straight up lovable, and they each have their developments too. Loid used to be a cold-hearted spy, but after being with Yor and Anya for a while, he became a solid dad, that learned to take care of his family, and learned to trust others a bit more, even though he’s a spy. Yor is a clumsy character, yet she’s an assassin, which is as ridiculous as the plot of the show. She becomes a wonderful mother figure to Anya, and keeps Loid in check too, teaching him how to treat Anya in a nice way. Now, everyone’s favourite walking meme, Anya, is obviously cute, and gives me nostalgia of being a kid. She’s curious about things, and always wants to help the people she likes. On top of that, she can read minds, which makes for excellent comedy at times. The side characters are also fun to watch. Franky is a ridiculous helper to Loid, and pulls off some fun costumes. Yuri has a bit of a sister complex, but it almost made for a kiss between Loid and Yor, and who doesn’t want that? Damian is a tsundere to the highest degree, but I love the dynamic between him and Anya, and of course, we all love Anya’s smug face! ENJOYMENT: 14.3/15 Great for Saturday mornings, and I really enjoyed it. I admit, I lost a little interest in the middle of the series, but the over the top comedy and character interactions was fun. THEMATIC EXECUTION: 17.3/20 The spy theme was executed pretty well, with solid world building. The comedic elements are a bit repetitive at times, a lot of times with the comedy focusing on Anya’s “shock” faces. There hasn’t been a lot of action yet, but we’ve some engaging action scenes, and I’d love to see more of those next cour. OVERALL: 87.6/100 A wholesome family show that everyone should watch, and will likely enjoy. It doesn’t try to be overly ambitious, and that’s fine. It’s just pure fun, and while it’s not a masterpiece, it’s just gives me such nostalgia to those Saturday morning cartoons, and this is a prime Saturday morning cartoon indeed. Looking forward the next cour two in the Fall!
I am proud to be writing one of the first reviews on the Spy X Family anime. >:D ((some untagged spoilers here !!) The Spy Family anime has enjoyed incredible popularity, being the [#1 highest rated anime in 2022](https://anilist.co/search/anime?year=2022&sort=SCORE_DESC), #12 highest rated of all time, and [#2 most popular anime in 2022](https://anilist.co/search/anime?year=2022&sort=POPULARITY_DES) (after Attack on Titan). From the first episode(s)!! It's unquestionably sweeping the nation, and Japan too. Why? Here is my unbiased review on it. ~~~------ Synopsis ------~~~ The first part of the show's description fits it really well: "Everyone has a part of themselves they cannot show to anyone else." The Family is formed not by the usual ways, but by secret identities. And that's pretty cool. Each of the 3 members has a different reason to join this pretend family, without suspecting any of the others. The art style is not bad, and the CGI animation is not bad. From the first episode, the show is funny at times, and admittedly, did make me laugh. The humor is cutesy; deadpan, or slapstick, and dramatic. The pacing is pretty good, and Episode 5 is filler. Episode 2 better than 1, and Ep 4 is better than everything before it. Ep 10 is amazing xD Eventually, of course. Romantic development is given between Loid Forger and Yor Forger. It's really fun, being a fake-family-turned-real type thing. The appeal is added to by the ruthlessness of both of them when it comes to their goals. An early scene ~! has a lovey marriage scene, with the explosion they set off to stop the opponents who were just targeting them in the background, as the new couple doesn't even notice.!~ Cold violence towards anyone who tries to hurt them, their work or their love, is a fun type of craziness that makes it more fun to watch; but, it's also common in anime / manga, as the Yandere troupe. Those new to anime will enjoy it; but should understand it's not the ultimate, best example there is. I can't say the political situation between Westalis and Ostania was captivating, but that's the show's setting. Here's a little Spy Family [history](https://animehunch.com/spy-x-family-mangaka-tatsuya-endo-does-not-like-anya-other-characters/), which also tells the [author](https://anilist.co/staff/98543)'s opinion on his own works and Spy Family. I'm not going to rate this anime as an adaptation, because I haven't read the manga (yet?). But I hear that it is a really good adaptation of it. The show will just make ya smile, though. ~~~------ Music ------~~~ The op is ok-ish, kinda cringe, and nothing as good as Shikimori's OP (Shikimori is another show airing at the same time as SxF, and it's much worse). The ed is good. Credit to the SxF ost, though. It reflects the scenes well, whether it's the action scenes if the beginning, or the nursery-like scenes of the Eden classes, later on. ~~~---------- ----------~~~ ~~~ img220(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FSnog5ZaMAAaVxQ?format=jpg&name=small) ~~~ ~~~---------- ----------~~~ ~~~------ Characters ------~~~ ~~~[Yor Forger](https://anilist.co/character/138102)~~~ Best character. The wife and mother of this family. It was at episode 2 at her first appearance that I started to really like her, and at the episodes after that you learn alot more about her personality. She is gentle and soft-spoken. She's pure, and at the same time the only character in the show who seems even half-Yandere. Watching her restrain herself from going too far in family-protection-mode is fun :D She does seem the most relatable of the three to me. At one point Yor instructs Anya how to and when she may fight. Anya is a perceptive lil girl, and she takes what both her parents say to heart. My favorite part of the show perhaps is the few small moments when Anya recalls Yor's instructions at critical moment :D that was great. Yor can have the same expression as Anya at times xD (As a side note, Yor's [Japanese voice actor](https://anilist.co/staff/95869) is perfect for her. Note: ~! The va, Hayami Saori, is pretty cool, playing among others the voices of: kny's Shinobu, Shouko Nishimiya from A Silent Voice, Kakegurui's Yumeko, and Rachel from Tower of God.!~ ~~~Loid Forger~~~ The father of this family. Personally not very relatable for me He can be very nice; a caring and sweet father. Can be a pushover at times, but is also very strong and does whatever needs to be done. ~~~Damien Desmond~~~ He's an interesting little boy. ~~~[Headmaster Henderson](https://anilist.co/character/180190)~~~ He's great, too. He's funny, and he acts strict, but Anya gets around that just by being herself. ~~~Yuri Briar~~~ A relation to our family here. He has plenty of his own share of secrets, too. His personality is rather intense, not too dissimilar to Loid. The old seamstress lady is pretty cool, too. ~~~---------- ----------~~~ ~~~ img220(https://external-preview.redd.it/VJ-pm_46PcoXiZ8bx0K3pDBIhH4fF19UG07C2kiPbF4.jpg?auto=webp&s=b105ce7155772b9cd86fea01a71ad35d9551a7fb) ~~~ ~~~---------- ----------~~~ ~~~[Anya Forger](https://anilist.co/character/138100)~~~ An okay character. I think she is the most overrated character of all time, to be honest (she's the most popular in the show). A little girl who likes peanuts and [hot cocoa](https://youtu.be/W5Z5nbKs00U), her telepath power wraps everything in the show together, and her mysterious dark backstory is untold, as of yet. Her character is carried at times by her cuteness. My Spy X Family Review :D (* ^ ω ^)
Twilight is an undercover spy, always completing missions to reach his goal. He's never maintained relationships with anyone and he's always been alone in order to not involve anyone in his dangerous life. This all changed when he got assigned his latest mission: Operation Strix. This mission is to put together a family in a week in order to infiltrate social gatherings organized by the elite school that Desmond's son attends. Desmond is the target of this mission. He is a dangerous man who is putting the world at risk. The aim? To get closer to him through his son, Damian. This is why he must put together a family so his child can get closer to Damian in order for Twilight to get closer to Desmond, find his motives and stop him in his tracks in order to attain world peace. "everyone has a side to them that no one can know about" Twilight starts off by changing his name to Loid and his new family name is Forger. He goes to an adoption center and this is where he adopts his daughter, Anya. Little does he know that she has the ability to read people's minds. And through struggle and chaos he ends up finding a beautiful wife too, named Yor, who is secretly an assassin! Loid Forger, Anya Forger and Yor Forger. A secret spy, a mind reader and an assassin All living together as one household whilst maintaining their secret identities from each other. And then you have certain threats like Yor's possessive younger brother Yuri who is also a member of the secret police which makes him a huge threat to Loid. The opening of this anime is so unique and different compared to other animes yet it's done so well. The song is a banger too. The overall art style of the anime is so aesthetically pleasing and really pretty!! the way they use colours is just perfect. oh and an honourable mention to anya's legendary smirk. I love the even balance between Loid's spy life, Yor's assassin life and their normal family life. I know their family is currently out of convenience but I hope someday it becomes a proper committed family :( And Anya's school life oh my god it's too funny. Anya and Becky make such an adorable duo, I hope they stay friends. And then you have Damian and his lackeys that are absolutely hopeless LOL. I do hope that Anya and Damian do end up getting along soon though because as funny as their hatred for each other is, its needed for Operation Strix and also it would add some really nice character development to Damian. Overall this is such a cute, wholesome family anime with a cool badass kick to it, something all anime lovers can enjoy, I definitely recommend watching it it's personally one of my favourites!
img900(https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/Dominic-Toretto-and-Anya-Forger.jpg) ~~~_"There is nothing stronger then Family" - Vin Diesel_~~~ So you have this spy, right? He needs to save the country from going into war, to do that he need to get a kid into *the* academy. The kids he then gets is pretty stupid but also an esper. But to get that kid into the academy he also needs a mother figure, so he finds the women which, surprise!, is an assasin. So now these three have to pretend to be an actual family while trying to hide their true identities from the world and themselves. Then you have Spy X Familly. For a quick plot summary, this is a pretty intriguing plot. It quickly got me into watching this anime in the first place. I was always gonna watch it while it was airing since it suddenly became the biggest new show on the planet. When I started watching it, I liked it at first but I still had some doubts, but the more I watched it, the more it just intrigued me into it. It has taken me a long time to put into words why I like this series as much as I do even with it being hyped to the moon, but I think I finallly got it: It is just great! Wait, let me explain that. Let's first start with the obvious: The characters are freaking amazing. The main character, Loid, is pretty much your typical cold character, not making connections with others in order to not get tied down. Obviously, that changes as the series goes on, but what I like about Loid is that cracks are consistently shown. Despite him being very insensitive, he is still human after all and the thing that stands in the way of his mission is often himself with how caught up he can get in it, and seeing those hijinks are very entertaining. Then we have Yor and putting aside her amazing design, my god she is so fun. She is very much a pure soul at at heart (ignoring the murdering part) and she desperately just tries her best. She constantly tries to improve in her people skills and it is a joy to see her improve. And then we have Anya. She is the esper of the main cast and pretty much the entire fate of the country is resting on her shoulders. Child characters are very hard to make since it is always a balance between either being so smart it is unbelievable or so stupid that they become annoying, especially with super powers which can tip towars the former. Anya is luckily able to tiptoe into balance by making her juuuust stupid enough. Her power is overpowered but she aint that smart in handling it. She is very much a child at heart, but not in the annoying little shit way but in the way a child would look at the wonderous world. All her actions are not only funny but very believable since, ya know, she is a kid. She got no real sense of the seriousness of a situation so she tackles everything with lots of boldness which creates some of the funniest jokes in the show. Since we are talking about the humor, my god is this anime funny. It has a heavy emphasis on creating comedy out of the characters. It doesn't go completely in the sitcom direction like konosuba did since it still keeps a foot in the drama. This makes you feel like all the jokes come from putting the funny characters in wild situations but the writers still have the freedom to make well constructed gags. The boldness of Anya, Loid's obsessiveness with his missions, Yor's constant anxiety of being a good wife, just the very fact how ridiculous this plot is, I love them all. There a very few duds and even when there are these are usually pretty quick. What can I really say about the production values? It is Wit Studio! Ofcourse all the character designs are clean and cool. Ofcourse the aesthetic mixes the 1920s spy movie style with a more timeless flair which makes the anime feel so universal. Ofcourse the animation is well done with many clean action cuts and great anime faces which surely are gonna be used in a million memes. Ofcourse both the OP and ED are absolute jammers. It is freaking Wit Studio For the last thing to talk about, I think this anime is incredibly consistent in its quality. The biggest downside the anime does is that it can sometimes stretch its narattive to wide which can lead to some small plotholes, like how Yor and Loid never question how both of them have basically super human strength and agilit. But even with things like that I was able to ignore it since I was just enjoying the story, the character and the comedy. I am also happy with how friendly this anime is for newcomers with how there is a lack of presence of anime's usual _quircks_, it just is a feel good show through and through. In conclusion, this anime is fantastic! It doesn't reinvent the wheel and it will guarantee you to leave you with strong emotions, but it also really hard to find the flaws in the anime without getting to the point of Cinemasins nitpicking. The characters are great, it looks great, the comedy is great, the story is intriguing, it is a good gateway show for newcomers, it is just the whole package. Give this one a watch! You won't regret it!
#__Scattered Thoughts__: _Spy x Family_ (Minor spoilers ahead) #__Should you watch?__ Yes. For once, an anime that might actually be fun for the whole family. _Synopsis_ The setting is definitely-not-West-and-East-Germany during definitely-not-the-Cold-War. To get information on a high-ranking bureaucrat as part of a mission, the top spy “Twilight” from definitely-not-West-Germany, Westalis, is tasked with forming a family to get close to his target in definitely-not-East-Germany, Ostania. Unbeknownst to Twilight, his adopted daughter and fake newlywed wife are a mind-reading psychic and a professional assassin respectively. Thus begins a series of comedic family hijinks while the world hangs in the balance.
SPY x FAMILY is a comedy slice-of-life show that follows a newly formed pretend-to-be family. In this family, everyone has their secrets and motivations for why they'd want these new relationships to succeed. The father, working under the alias Loid Forger, is a top-class spy sent by a foreign government to track down a politician by the name of Donovan Desmond with the goal going towards ensuring peace between two nations. The said politician has disappeared from the public eye and can only be seen attending social gatherings at the school his sons go to. The only way to gain access to the social gatherings in this prestigious school is to have a child attending it, which is why our protagonist also going by the codename "Twilight" is given a mission to acquire a wife and a daughter so he could infiltrate the said gatherings. This plot point, albeit convenient works really well for setting up the plot for the story. img1220(https://www.animesenpai.net/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/20220510_161021_compress60-1024x595.jpg) This very unconventional mission leads him to an orphanage in which he was hoping to find the most intelligent kid out of the ones available, as for entering the very prestigious school Donovan's children go to you need to pass an entrance exam among other things. This leads us to our next main character, Anya. who just so happens to be an esper - a mind reader. She then proceeds to trick Loid by copying the answers floating around in his head to convince him that she is very much advanced for her age. This leads to him adopting her immediately and finding them an apartment to stay in. Only later does Loid realize that a wife is required as well since, for them to pass the entrance interview in the school, both parents have to be present. This is once again a very convenient plot point, but again it works really well. When visiting a tailor shop for Anya's school uniform, they meet Yor who just so happens to be shopping there at that time. She also has a secret of her own, a darker one than the others, she's an assassin. And it just so happens that she's also looking for someone to play the role of her significant other to not alert suspicion as to why she still isn't married at her age. As she has both a day and a dangerous night job, she doesn't have time for dating. And so they agree to be a pretend couple, for both of their sakes and without knowing the true reasons and nature of this arrangement. Naturally, this is wonderful news for Anya as she now has parents that will care for her instead of rotting in the orphanage. And with that, we have our plot very well set up two episodes in. img1220(https://animecorner.me/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Spy-x-Family-01.png) Without touching the spoilers for the rest of the show, it succeeds for not only having a very original idea for the plot but also for the great execution. The main characters are very likable and work very well off of each other. Loid is a serious, well-calculated individual that cares about the well-being of the world which is why he executes all his missions with perfection no matter how many of them he gets burdened with and no matter how hard or impossible some may seem. But he also has a very soft side, he cares about Anya's happiness and well-being and goes a step further than the mission might require. Yor might be a dangerous assassin, but you would never notice that without knowing, apart than her occasional bursts of strength. She also cares deeply about Anya, and while she's pretty useless in a household environment she does her best and plays the role of a loving mother with top grades. Anya is the star of the show, everything revolves around her. She can be selfish, but also considerate. She would do everything to make this fake marriage work and tries to help Loid in his mission to the best of her ability. Her very animated expressions and reactions really add to the comedy of the whole thing. img1220(https://cloudfront-us-east-1.images.arcpublishing.com/infobae/LDV3VUWNCFGRVM2B7IUWQ35LQM.png) My personal favorite episode is the fourth one, in which the family is invited to the mentioned school interview. It shows the best of the absolutely absurd situations they find themselves in, also introducing one of the best side characters in Anya's future homeroom teacher who strives for and gets a bit too excited about elegance. It also deepens the character bonds between one another and showcases the depth of their emotions. After the fourth episode, the show starts to stagnate a little bit with some filler episodes being just okay and Anya's school life being less interesting, absurd, or funny than the family life and mission assignments. It also ends pretty suddenly, which is I guess fine since the second season is right around the corner. But usually, I'd like for a season to close some plot point or a chapter of something for me to see it as a season, and I don't think that is the case here. Still, the show has a lot of variety, it can be hilarious when it wants to and it can be wholesome when it wants to. It oozes with charm and I cannot wait for the second season to hopefully not only show more of the same but also elevate it to the next level. Until then, I'd give it an 8/10 and would gladly rewatch it in the future.
An action-packed family drama about a spy, a child psychic, and an assassin. Family is the name of the game for these three, as the Forgers try to avoid suspicion and prevent war. Loid Forger, a spy for the opposing country, juggles life as a father and a man holding the line against disaster. Yor Forger, an assassin for a mysterious organization, must keep her cover while navigating the responsibilities of a parent. And Anya Forger, an endearing little girl with ESP, may know the identities of her parents but that doesn't make helping their missions any easier! The main trio is accompanied in their story by a collection of lively recurring background characters that both support and stand out as individuals. You really find yourself rooting for everyone as they grow and develop, with each character getting their share of the spotlight. The main storyline, however, is neither forgotten nor overfocused on as the show progresses, with interludes all having a vein of importance and action not being overwhelmingly constant. However, Spy x Family is not tethered to a strict idea of reality; super-human feats are common among the main characters. This is by no means a serious take on the life of spies or assassins in countries on the brink of war. Despite the strange cast of characters, the anime doesn't lean too far into one genre of those it covers. Action scenes are both humorous and touching, heartwarming family moments are colored with Anya's peanut-gallery thoughts, and laughs from over-the-top reactions are balanced by running story developments. Aside from a good story, this anime takes place in an interesting (but simple) universe. The characters navigate their lives while trapped in a cold war between two countries, where spies and spy-hunters are commonplace. This allows for a source of drama and intrigue, as well as meaningful messages and character motivations. As for loyalty to the manga, Spy x Family does a good job of being faithful but also fresh. The adaptation doesn't stray far from the source material but also doesn't feel overly beholden to it. Additionally, it builds upon the written medium in ways that only an animated adaptation can, adding a little extra something to the story. I am not experienced when it comes to discussing animation style, but the choices made by the studio complement the humility, and at other times the gravity, of the characters. If you're looking for a balanced show that will make you laugh, sit on the edge of your seat, and almost cry tears of joy, this is a great show for you. Spy x Family will definitely go down as one of my favorites, and I'm excited to see where Act 2 takes us! Note: This review is not by someone who is an expert on the topic. This is just my interpretation of the series, as someone who deeply enjoys shows like this. (PS: Looking forward to more peanut representation as a peanut enthusiast)
~~~Time to dive in the rabbit hole! 2022 has been a special year for us, Anime watchers, to check out this year's Anime. 2022 Anime has been very diverse compared to some previous years. The best entries for this year are Ya Boy Kongming!, Kaguya-sama: Love is War -Ultra Romantic-, and here the anime I'm reviewing is none other than SPY x FAMILY. Now please forgive my half-assed English language as I'm just stating out my opinions on the show. __STORY: 90%__ The story revolves in Loid Forger (codename: Twilight) being sent out for missions while looking for family members. It also portrays as comedy where the main cast have their own bonding and/or drama is involved. The show has been nothing but consistent with its themes and doesn't take things too seriously to be enjoyable. Anime with western culture has been one of my favorite things to design an anime, Some notable examples for that being Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. SPY x FAMILY also follows that element. The comedy is also really good. It doesn't overblow it's quirk and uses it whenever there are times characters don't take their things seriously. On a side note: my favorite scene in the show is that one moment where a guy thinks that a wife that doesn't cook never existed (he's only there for barely 10 minutes and I already want punch him in the face). __CHARACTERS: 85%__ The characters are truly something else... Loid is a spy who is out for missions, investigating the activities of a highly ranked politician while building his own family as well as trying his best to hide his own identities. Yor is an assassin who works as a clerical employee and struggles to be a consistent wife and mother. She has a weird drinking habit and faints when she drinks. While she's good at cleaning, her cooking skills are the opposite. As an assassin, her physical strength and her speed are quite impressive, taking down a pack of traitors at the second episode. Anya is a child alien (at least in my headcanon as I haven't gotten into the manga yet) who reads everyone's minds while driving into excitement whenever something special happens. While pretty smart as a mind reader, she struggles with her work as a student. She also plays with her toys as well as craving for peanuts. The main cast are overall funny, likeable, and never felt very out of place in terms of their characterization. They have great chemistry with one another. They prioritize on their goals whenever they have to. They can be awkward at times but still loving each other. Side characters are also very entertaining with some having their time to talk with some of the other main cast (some examples being Becky with Anya and Yuri with Yor) and others being so absurdly enjoyable to watch to an extent where they might be loved to be hated on (_*cough*_ _*cough*_ the dude who thinks a wife who doesn't cook never existed _*cough*_). __ART: 85%__ Art style looks really nice as far as I'm concerned having respectable and friendly color palettes to the opposed base character designs. And speaking of base character designs, they also look good whether they look attractive (Yor's Thorn Princess dress) or plain cool-looking (Loid in any outfit because he's Loid, I don't need to elaborate much). __SOUND: 84%__ OST is well-done. Each soundtrack fit well with a mood of each scene. OP and ED are good as well, although I personally have nothing against theme but they're still catchy. Voice acting is exceptional, with each VA fitting each character pretty well with their tones and delivering pretty nice lines. __ENJOYMENT: 96%__ Again, 2022 has been a ride. Providing great Anime for us to enjoy. SPY x FAMILY is no exception. The show provides us a great story as well as the next-getting-stale comedy and a likeable, unique cast of characters. I can recommend this for those who are worrying about show that fall into clichéd gimmicks. Heck, I can even recommend to those who aren't even into Anime at some point. __PERSONAL RANK: 9/10 (S- Tier)__~~~
I've been repeatedly underwhelmed by slice-of-life anime released in the past few seasons, so I was a bit hesitant to start watching this show. I'm used to rather slow starts that ramp up into emotional climaxes through gradual character development, but Spy x Family gave a nice contrast to that by hooking me from the start. The bursts of action brought about by the spy theme help give extra entertainment that other slice-of-life animes naturally lack. That said, this comes at a cost. As of yet, I have yet to see any significant character development (I know we're only 12 eps in, but still). All we see is Loid and Yor showing an increasing fondness for their fake family. That being said, I think the three main characters are a wonderful cast. The contrast in motives and lifestyles is very intriguing to watch as they must continuously deceive to hide their secrets from each other. However, this is where the current lack of character development makes things painful. I was very excited to see the family evolve and gradually change as they experience a new life together, but alas, nothing. Here's a brief breakdown of my opinion of each MC: Loid: The best written IMO. His motives are simple, but make sense given his background. He is the only character whose development makes sense to me, as he has endured similar situations before and is used to distancing himself from emotions. This makes the small hints we get at him becoming fond of Yor and Anya that much more regarding and interesting. Yor: A very enjoyable, but overly dumb character. It's a funny concept to have someone who is a top-tier assassin have no common sense, but some parts are a bit over the top. It's convenient for the plot but frustrated me at times. Anya: I absolutely adored her character at the beginning, but I feel like she's being abused for comedy too much. It was most enjoyable at the beginning of the anime while in small doses and even made me laugh out loud, which rarely happens nowadays. Unfortunately, it gets a bit repetitive; I personally feel that they overused her smirk and the infamous "waku waku". She's still fun and succeeds at being the comedic centerpiece of the show, but I hope they tone it down a bit in the next slew of episodes. I don't want to dive too deep and summarize the show, so I'll just talk about some parts of the show that I particularly enjoyed/disliked. Anya's spy party: It's cute and all, but this was a part where the immersion really fell short. I agree that Anya should get a reward for getting into Eden, but just thinking of all the resources wasted by a secret organization on something so trivial really annoyed me, and made the latter half of ep 5 painful to watch. Also, the dudes with the glasses pisses me off, which certainly didn't help. It was cool seeing Yor and Loid have a brief fight, though. Yuri meeting the Forgers: Yuri had the potential to be a very cool character, and make the current dynamic of the show much more interesting. He presents an additional challenge to Twilight, and could allow for a really cool cat and mouse dynamic, somewhat akin to Walter and Hank in BB. This still is possible, but it intrigues me much less after seeing what is done with Yuri's character. Turning him from a brother who simply idolizes and loves his sister into a creep who still wants to marry her is just plain unnecessary and gross. IMO, it's a complete waste of a character with a ton of potential. Him believing Yor's whole "I forgot to tell you we got married" was also frustrating for me, but just relates to the plot convenience thing about Yor that I mentioned earlier. Anya and Damian: I really like their dynamic so far, and their interactions are very believable and entertaining. Him having an interest in her and covering it up with a rough exterior is a common trope with kids, but Anya's mind-reading ability gives it some extra zazz. It also has the potential for very interesting conflict down the line. If Damian and Anya become close and Loid kills his dad, how would Anya react? She knows what Loid's mission is, but is too naïve to understand what his true objective is. She would know that he killed Damian's dad if it were to happen, and I could see this being a really heartbreaking emotional climax. I know I mainly talked about the negative aspects of the show, but that's because all the stuff it does right is rather basic; great animation (I expect nothing less from WIT and CW), fun characters, good pacing, and a unique and intriguing plot. It's just much easier to pinpoint what the show does wrong rather than right. It's very enjoyable for a slice-of-life, and a lot of the comedy is delivered well despite some repetitiveness. It's set up to be an amazing anime, it just needs a little refinement. I am very optimistic about the second half.
With only twelve episodes, Spy x Family's plot and characters feel almost too premature to review at the moment. Despite that Twilight's mission consists of political corruption and spy missions, and is the most interesting part of this series for me, it disappointingly waters it down to the point there doesn't feel as if there is anything really interesting to say. And this is considering everything else, such as Anya's moments that reduces this to a kids show many times. Even anime like K'On! can give me more depth and motivation than Anya making funny faces all the time, which constantly left me with my eyes half open at how repetitive and not funny it became for me. If Anya being cute and making funny faces makes this a masterpiece, I just can't comprehend, and am confused about the type of yardstick that is being used to rate this series. Her constantly explaining what the characters are thinking could add to the development of Twilight, and the hollow husk of character that is Yor, though it sometimes felt like constantly vomiting useless information. Even Damian feels like a character that has more depth than Yor. Despite that he is a young stuck up rich kid, he has enough sense to respect Anya when she helps him, which is admirable. I actually felt very excited to see where Yor was going to go. She's voiced by the only thing I liked out of Demon Slayer (Shinobu, who has been disappointingly left out of the anime), and her being an assassin, hiding under an already fake family, and having to struggle to hide it, made me wonder all the possibilities in how they can make this interesting and fold out. I was dreaming too idealistically, however, as Yor mostly stood in the background, and constantly made me question her intelligence. At least they somewhat tried to show her assassin side. They should have tried to develop her character more, and shown more of her missions. Even the studios didn't try to do anything with her with some meaningful anime only content. It's a missed opportunity to salvage her character. There are some anime, like Legend of the Galactic Heroes, that can take characters like Dusty and Poplan, who have a small presence in the novels, and bring them to life, rich in character, by enhancing them with lots anime only content, in a way that it doesn't ruin the source material. Yor should have had this treatment. The simplistic and episodic approach this has leaves me with little to say about it, plot wise. The finale was just another cute moment, which did nothing to end this on a better note from where it was before. Despite that Wit Studio and Cloverworks were involved here, there are hardly any moments that really excelled in animation. Not only that, they get drowned out by the amount of slide shows, CGI crowds, and zoom ins into doors, while characters explain to me, again, something I've already heard several times, or that is obvious. The animation feels stiff; Yor looks like an insect sometimes, as if she was secretly an ant queen experiment gone wrong that escaped. Like Komi Can't Communicate, the comedy is what salvaged this for me. Unlike Komi's anime, which burned itself out eventually, Spy x Family remained consistently and cleverly funny. Twilights very serious mission is absurdly approached, as the master spy can barely hold a fake family together, and though he can pull all sorts of incredible talents as a spy, is faced with his greatest challenge of being a father and husband, that puts him often at wits end. Anya can be adorable, and funny, though I look for something more meaningful in anime besides funny faces and cute moments with toys. It's clear she took over the anime as the most popular part of it. I can't comprehend it. Everyone looks for different things in anime, I suppose, and that's fine. I understand that this is very popular, and that's a bad thing. I understand that anyone saying something negative about this will get outcasted. Nothing is perfect; even one's favorites. Still, all these nearly perfect consensus scores on multiple anime websites are all irrelevant to what the individual thinks. Don't depend or rely on them as if they are the bible, because letting people with different tastes rate, manipulate scores, and allowing to tell you what to like and not like is absurd. The only way you'll know if you are going to like something is by watching it yourself. Relying on them makes you miss out on potentially good shows. I have to face the fact that plenty of my recent favorite seasonal anime will be buried and forgotten. It doesn't mean that I am wrong, and that I have a questionable taste. Everyone is different and not one person has the objective taste; it doesn't exist. The second part of Spy x Family coming up has great potential, in my opinion, to be significantly better. Maybe they will fix Yor's character, maybe they will stop trying to be dependent on cute Anya moments to make the series, maybe they can add more depth to Twilights' mission, and some real danger. Or maybe this is just another funny goofy show that I just can't relate to.
Before the show released the hype it created all over the media was really hot than summer season despite of it being a Spring seasonal show(2022) lol. I think the reason was because it's manga won some kind of popularity contest. I didn't start watching it right away but every week an ep dropped and watching other's crazy reaction on it, I couldn't hold myself longer and leapt on to it but....as they say, "Far Mountains are always beautiful."(I think that's the line....), let me serve my thoughts on it as I have now watched that mountain up close. Beware of small Spoilers and Grammatical errors :-). __STORY__ :- We have been hearing the overall plot about how a Spy father, Assassin Mother and an Esper little girl forms a pretend family for the sake of a spy mission. And yes that's exactly what happened but not as how I thought. In first episodes they introduce father and daughter then in 2nd episode mother came. But when the third ep came it became....so slow. Compared to the rapid fast pacing of 1&2 ep, 3rd ep was really slow and after that if one ep was fast other one was slow. I think those who watched it weekly they didn't notice it. Despite that every ep never fails to make you laugh. There are times when I have to pause the vdo for laughing. Also many inside things of being a Spy, an Assassin and as Esper are shown very fluently and neatly. Also I can't understand why the title named SPY X FAMILY when the show is neither all about a spy nor a POV of the spy? Why in the heavens Loid couldn't know the mother is an Assassin!!? Why they didn't show properly how the assassin carries out her mission unlike they show about Loid's other spy missions? __ANIMATION__:- As we know studios are CLOVER WORKS and WIT STUDIO so as expected there was no problem with animation. Infact I really liked how the Animation was consistent from start to finish even if it's an action scene or slow motion scene or comedy scene or anything. There are shows where they just pour all the money on animation or cleverly reducing animation quality in unnecessary part afterwards using that saved up amount on crucial scenes but this show was smooth as butter in this case. Though every tactics are good in their own way. __MUSICS__:- Hmm.... Average. I admit I don't have many experience or knowledge in music areas but comparing to other anime musics I find it average. The OP felt good for first few eps but then it also felt average after that. But I am sure I can never forget that triumph sound on Loid apperance or any crucial spy(ish) moments. __SOME PERSONAL THOUGHTS__ :- The voice actor of Loid forger - Eguchi Takuya stands upto his voice acting. Throughout the show he reminds me of his previous voice acting for Hikigaya from Oregairu with how fast he speaks and thinks. When does this dude take breath? ༎ຶ‿༎ຶ My fav ep was MISSION 10. The whole dodge ball game was so dramatic and hilarious lmao. img220(https://files.catbox.moe/cgfnnv.jpg) Finally about Anya.... Anybody have Diabetes medicine? Anya cuteness is too much for me to handle!!! God I could do anything to have my hands on her cheek (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻. All hail STARLIGHT ANYA!! I didn't read manga nor got any spoilers (Blessed me!!) but I think that dog, which may introduce in Cour 2, have foreshadowing powers. I know it's contrary of the show's basic concept but I think if Yor were a Spy instead of Assassin then that would be much better. Spy can fight and kill so I don't see any problems with this idea. __CONCLUSION__:- I may have missed some points to put but I think that's enough reason for you to start watching the show if you haven't watched it. It's worth the time I guarantee you but please don't rise your hopes too much to have it crush in the end. In my opinion it's best to watch it slowly, don't binge watch it. Now all there is left to wait for Cour 2. img220(https://files.catbox.moe/vuvc9c.jpg)
When people who were already invested in the manga got the news that Spy x Family would be getting an anime adaptation, it's safe to say that many thought it would be one of the most promising shows of its respective season, if not the year. However, while I do think the show has definitely taken its place as one of the top contenders for best anime of 2022, I can't help but feel disappointed in the end. Spy x Family has some major flaws, most of which were also prevalent in the manga, but it really feels like some of those problems were exacerbated with this anime adaptation. ~~~__The Characters__~~~ __The Main Cast__ Starting off with the strong suit of this anime, the characters of Spy x Family are all very interesting and compliment each other very well. The main cast of three all have their respective quirks which help them bounce off one another. Their main goal is to carry out their roles in this fake family, use the family for their gain and hide their true identities. Loid, a spy who is tasked with protecting the peace between this universes East and West Germanies in a plan called operation Strix, is our main protagonist. Most of the story revolves around him and the plan he is working towards, as his reason for adopting Anya and faking a marriage with Yor is all so that he can establish a connection with a powerful official from Ostania (East Germany) named Donovan Desmond in order to preserve peace. He is your average cliche western movie troupe spy for the most part. A worrywart at heart due to his profession, his will to keep on going is constantly tested by the... under average intelligence of Anya. The goal of Loid is for Anya to acquire 8 "Stellas" which are awarded based on academical, behavioral or sports achievements. With these 8 Stellas, Anya can become an Imperial Scholar, basically an example student. It is vital for Anya to become an Imperial Scholar so that she and her father can attend special meetings, meetings that Donovan Desmond will also be attending with his elder son, and that will be Loid's only chance to contact Donovan. Problem is, Anya is kind of dumb and unskilled at pretty much everything, and she tests Loid's limits when it comes to how much he can endure this hell. The most quirky character out of the cast is obviously Anya, as she has access to telepathic abilities that allow her to read the minds of her adoptive parents. Yor and Loid trying to hide their true identities from the other members of the cast while Anya secretly knows everything makes for some great comedy. Her reason for taking part in the family and hiding her identity is very simple. As she was raised as an experiment presumably from the day she was born, she craves familial bonds and wants to be adopted, leading to her "tricking" Loid into taking her in. She then never discloses her abilities, of course, as she is afraid what would be done with her if that secret is revealed. All of this is not to say she is some secret mastermind with ill-intent. Anya, for the most part, is a pretty stupid kid, which helps balance out her extremely powerful abilities. She sometimes uses her telepathic powers to help others (especially Loid) out, but most of the time her abilities are used as a comedic device. Even though she is integral to the plot of the show and Loid's plans, she is a comedic relief character more than anything. Finally, Yor. Yor is an overly innocent klutz who is horrible at pretty much anything other than fighting. Her true identity is that of a hitwoman, and the reason why she partakes in the fake family is to avoid suspicion from authorities and fit in with her friends. Unlike Loid, Yor's actions are a lot less calculated. Her innocent demeanor isn't simply a fake persona, but rather a part of who she is. This makes the contrast between her innocent usual self and merciless killer self a lot more interesting. Sadly, Yor is the least utilized character out of the main cast. Loid constantly has spy businesses to deal with, and the entire premise of the show stems from Operation Strix. Anya reads peoples minds every chance she gets, and shapes a lot of the plot. Meanwhile, Yor feels like more of a glorified side character. She partakes in assassinations only in the start of the show, when she is first being introduced. Sure, we see her use her physical prowess to deal with problems a lot in the show and Anya reads Yor's mind to reveal she is thinking about her job quite a bit, but we don't really see her go and kill people while trying to fool the family like Loid does many times during the show. Yor screams wasted potential, potential that will be no doubt used further on in the show, but still wasted potential for now. It would have been great to see her trying to juggle both family matters and private matters at the same time in this opening act, similar to Loid. __Side Characters__ Yor's brother is a character who will be obviously making a lot of appearances further on. He is secretly part of the counterintelligence agency of Ostania and is tasked with rooting out spies and extracting information from anyone that is working against the government. His eccentric personality and weird siscon tendencies aside, he will be an amazing support for the story further on, when he will presumably come head to head with Loid. Also, adding another character that has to hide his true identity to the show was a great idea in my opinion, and complicates matters even more, which is a good thing for a show like this. Damian Desmond is the younger son of Donovan Desmond, the man Loid is trying to get closer to. Damian, like Yor's brother, will be a great tool for the plot later on as he is in love with Anya. He presents a great opportunity for Loid to get closer to Donovan without the 8 Stella plan, but that will still take a while as Loid is not aware of this love and Damian is too stubborn to admit he is in love. There are some very minor characters too, like Becky, Damian's friends the principal, Sylvia and Franky. So let's have a rapid fire round: - Becky is an alright addition to flesh out Anya's interactions in school. She isn't anything really special, but doesn't have to be. Her role is that of an outlet for Anya to have somebody to talk to during school hours, and a plot device to explain some things about the world, especially the school. - Damian's friends are just simply annoying. Too stereotypical and too ugly, they are joke characters through and through. A cheap way for the author to paint Damian as a highly respected and renowned person that attracts snobs without actually having to write any complex characters. They probably wouldn't annoy me this much if they didn't forcefully shove themselves into the screen and into conservations whenever Damian is present. I think writing some characters that had just as much personal depth as Anya or Damian would have been a lot better and lead to more complex relationships later on. Considering how aware the author is of writing good characters as we can see in the main cast, it kind of shocks me to see potential like this go to waste. - The principal is an eccentric side character who helps with the shows comedy and was also used as a plot device for Anya to get into the school despite her subpar intelligence. I suspect he will be used in similar ways in the future as well. - Sylvia and Franky are both just plot devices. They have their respective quirks and mannerisms making them fun additions, but they don't have much more depth other than that. Sylvia pops up whenever the author wants to write in an exposition dump or give Loid an additional task and spice up the plot, and Franky is used for when Loid needs help. Kind of cheap but not too bad. Bond sadly didn't join the cast this cour. Without spoiling anything, all I can say is that he will be a part of the main cast and spice everything up much more, but that doesn't concern us for now. __9/10 for the characters.__ When you boil everything down to the fundamentals, this anime is a character drama that requires strong characters. And despite all the underutilized or not yet utilized potential, the characters of this show are really solid and will be the primary thing that carries it forward. ~~~__World Building__~~~ The world building of a show like this is not very important overall, strong world building mainly concerns sci-fi and fantastical worlds, but it is still worth a mention. Spy x Family tries to satirize and mimic the kind of worlds that cliche Hollywood spy films have. It's alright, but it's definitely not the best, especially for Spy x Family's format. If this was a show only concerned about comedy then I can see it working out all right. But Spy x Family, especially later on, will focus a lot on drama and serious topics, and I personally think a world like this doesn't compliment such a setting at all, and it actually hinders it. A satirical and one dimensional world like this is not horrible, but it's not good either. __5/10.__ ~~~__The Story and Premise__~~~ I have already talked about the details of the story quite a bit in the characters section in order to highlight some character dynamics, and I won't waste your time explaining it again here. The premise of the show is amazing for hooking people in right at the start. It is mysterious and exciting, it will naturally make you curious as to what will happen next. Can Anya really perform in school well enough the be an Imperial Scholar, or will Loid contact Donovan through Damian's love for Anya, or another method entirely? Will Yor get a job to kill Loid, and how will she react to that? If Yor or Loid start getting suspicious of each other or even find out each other's identities, will Anya be able to pull the family together? Or will Yor and Loid find out Anya can read minds before that? Will Loid think about disposing of her just in case she was some sort of experimental psychic spy used by Ostania to spy on him? How will Yor's brother find out Loid's identity, and how will he react? So many questions, so many possibilities, all thanks to the mangaka cleverly crafting all of these characters. If the sheer potential this story has is executed nicely, this will surely be one of the best character drama animes of all time. __If there were no hiccups in the story's execution, this could easily be a 9/10 show. But for now, I will have to rate it 7.5/10 due to one major flaw.__ __Pacing.__ Pacing is hard to pull off, there is no way around it. Whether it be some boring and slow scenes, an exposition dump that goes by way too fast or the pace of an arc in general, pacing can make or break certain scenes, moments and even the work itself. In the case of Spy x Family, pacing is a huge issue. And sadly it isn't on a small scale only concerning some scenes, the entire series is just way too slow. Mainly due to the many, many purely slice of life tangents that add nothing to the plot and yet take up huge chunks of the show, sometimes even entire episodes. This was a problem in the manga as well, the manga was too focused on pure slice on life chapters that didn't progress the plot at all, especially early on. In the anime, though, it feels much worse. You have plenty of episodes that are not relevant to the plot at all, needlessly taking away time from more important plot points and just taking away time in general. You watch an episode for 24 minutes hoping something will happen but nothing does. I am not necessarily against slice of life in a show like this where strong characters are integral. Slice of life is an amazing way to make the viewer feel like the bonds between the characters are natural, and it goes a long way when it comes to character dynamics. But make them in a way that also advances the plot, like when Anya saved the drowning kid and got a Stella. Otherwise it feels like such a chore to watch, knowing how many interesting plot points there are out there that the series refuses to advance towards, rather choosing to dwell on some dumb SoL story nobody cares about. Or just make them a lot shorter. Imagine if the Love is War adaptation dedicated a whole episode to each and every chapter of Kaguya and Shirogane's mindgames, the show would never advance to the parts that actually mattered. The anime knows this, though, and fits in 3 chapters into a single episode in order to have a faster paced show with less downtime and more jokes, all fit in to a smaller time frame. Thanks to this, it's insignificant and mostly comedy/SoL episodes didn't feel boring and they didn't overstay their welcome. To add to that, with this more efficient use of time Love is War could dedicate more time to significant plot developments. The Spy x Family anime could also have done this. The should have fit 2 SoL segments into a single episode with faster pacing, and left more time for actually significant things. The castle and penguin episodes, for example, had no right taking up their entire respective episodes. All I'm saying is we could have had Bond join the main cast in the first cour. ~~~__Art and Music__~~~ Generally speaking, I don't think art and music are that important for an anime overall. Most of the time, a strong story or well-written characters are much more important. But if these two components are done poorly, it can really bring a show down. And if done in an outstanding way, it can really elevate a show. Think of them like the icing and other decorations on a cake. For Spy x Family, there isn't much to talk about when it comes to these two. The art is very nice and soothing, but it is quite generic. Safe with no risks taken. It doesn't have outstanding visuals like Ping Pong the Animation, nor does it have that unique flair more visually traditional shows have like Kaiji, Mushishi or Monogatari. But Spy x Family isn't afraid to show off a bit if it needs to. __7.5/10.__ The music is very okay. It compliments the show but doesn't stand out in any way whatsoever. Not a masterpiece like Madoka Magica or Made in Abyss, and not unique enough to be worth a mention like Kaiji or Kill la Kill. __6/10__, feels like a Kevin Macleod album. The opening and ending... I'm not a fan. Opening sounds very jazzy and happy, but not in a good way. It feels uninspired and generic, I feel like I heard this melody and feel a million times already. The art is alright, although I'm not a huge fan of it, especially the parts from 0:10 to 0:50 with the weird doll-like simplistic drawings just looks uncanny to me. The small part from 1:04 to 1:10 looks amazing though. The ED, on the other hand, has pretty great visuals, but nothing above and beyond. Music wise, I hate the song so damn much. Feels like a generic lofi hip hop beat. __3/10 for both the OP and ED.__ __I'll average out everything in this segment to a 5.5/10.__ ~~~__Conclusion__~~~ Spy x Family holds great potential mainly thanks to its cleverly crafted and interesting characters. The quality of the entire story will depend on how well they and their relationships were made, and on that front, this anime will probably be one of the best, but only if it can mend its pacing and iron out some of the other, smaller flaws as well. __Characters:9/10__ __World Building: 5/10__ __Story and Premise: 7.5/10__ __Art and Music: 5.5/10__ __Overall: 7.5/10. Spy x Family is good where it matters. It just needs a bit more refining.__
This isn't so much a review as just an outpour and reflection on my time with this show and why I rated it as highly as I did. So I finally got around to find a block of time to catch up on new(er) shows that I missed the last season. And no° 1 on the priority list was Spy x Family cause I've heard so much good stuff about it and it came out of nowhere to take top spots here on AL and on MAL. I was worried that it was gonna be just a fad of the season, a "oh this is great but I'll forget about it soon" but oh boy was I wrong. Let's start with the fact that I'm a sucker for good spy/conman/thievery/assassin stuff, just, you know, things that have a certain... swag to them. Growing up I was a fan of the James Bond movies, so that probably plays into it. But over the years and now in my very late twenties, I have also grown a lot more emotional and stories about families, friendship etc. just hit differently. Free of shame I can admit that upon a rewatch of Pixar's Inside Out I cried a river cause I was so touched. So combine that with each other and, bam, it's a natural fit. And that natural fit made expectations sky-high. And things were... fantastic within the first few episodes of Spy x Family. The sheer __wholesomeness__ of the interactions between Loid, Yor and Anya with and between each other are just so good. I can't really put concrete examples here without spoiling those who haven't seen SxF, but most every moment when all three of them are ons screen at the same time there's this... air of pure fluff. No one gets angry with one another, Loid and Yor respect each other deeply and clearly have a deep affection for Anya and it just shows. It's a comfy AF show is what I'm saying. And it's also piss your pants hilarious and ridiculous at the same time. Episode 5 was heartwarming and pretty fun, the latter half of episode 6 (where the Anya Face meme was born had me rolling on the couch), episode 10 was just the right amount of hopelessly overdone and just the ridiculous situations the main trio finds themselves in are, at times, comedy gold. Other types of gold I need to hand out are the action scenes and the animation itself. I mean, okay, it's WIT x Cloverworks with, if I'm not mistaken, MAPPA as supporting studio. Soooo... it just slaps. The aforementioned Episode 5 has a short but fantastically choreographed fight at its end, and episodes 1 and 2 showed some high-stakes action scenes. One of the very few things that stuck out were things like CGI cars, but that's easy to overlook. I'm also absolutely in love with the visual aspect of the opening and ending, they're just SO good. Especially that impromptu dance at the end of the ending made my heart melt just that much more per episode. As for the characters, they're so whacky I love them. Loid is pretty presented as a a perfect spy and a top-tier human specimen in general, but with the "fake a family for your mission's stake" he's so far out of his comfort zone that watching him adjust is just fun; it's also really nice to see him thaw from somewhat of an ice-king only focused on his mission (which, to be fair, is a high stakes mission) and show his soft, caring side. As for Yor, the contrast between her, dare I say, bloodthirsty / bloodlust-y professional persona and her civil identity as a stellar but ditzy mother (sans the cooking but hey, Loid got that covered) for Anya is so stark it's sometimes hard to forget they're the same person. And then there's Anya. An ABSOLUTELY adorable kid who is very cunning and makes use of her ability to read minds... but she's also a complete and utter idiot who's really screwed when she can't read minds. However, she's also the catalyst for most of the show's humour and´, naturally, the heartwarming moments, so her characterisation works perfectly in the setting of the show. Closing thoughts on this short write-up of my thoughts.... I dislike Yuri but luckily he wasn't in the show much this season. The wait until October for S2 luckily isn't that long. But other than that.... nothing comes to mind. TL;DR - Spy x Family is comfy, it's cute, it's hilarious, it's very well animated, it's got a quirky cast and a cool premise.... Must watch.
If you hadn't already ducked out of the anime community for your own safety by the time Spring 2022 rolled around, you'd know that nobody could get enough of this little show that seemingly came out of nowhere from what was just a decently popular read among manga readers. I started watching Spy x Family by the time the first cour was already halfway over, and if I had reviewed the show back then, it would've gotten somewhere around a 90. Before I head forward, I want to make it clear that I don't even dislike the show as much as I am disappointed in it, and that the first half of the cour genuinely had me hooked to the show for the long run. Yes, I was another victim to the stratospheric hype the show received back when it was starting, and like many others, I'm finally asking questions now that the season's wrapped up and I'm looking back on it all. For this review I'll place my expectations against what I received, and in which aspects I was let down or not. ----------------------- Also Note: This all comes from the perspective of someone who's watched the season and read a few chapters ahead in the manga. My problems may very well be addressed later on in the series, but I'm going off of the content in the season alone. There will be no manga spoilers, too, since I've made that mistake before. Also Also Note: I originally intended to delve into the community's polarized response to the anime but I have come to learn that that is against the rules. Very sorry. ------------------ The biggest problem I have with this show is how it was hyped up. Before I started watching it, all of my Twitter sources were telling me that it was an awesome spy drama with some lighthearted slice of life elements, which I believe the first few episodes properly delivered on. I genuinely have no complaints with the foot the story starts on, it's one of the better beginnings to a story I've seen recently. The problem comes when Loid's mission of getting Anya into the same school as a warmongering politician's son succeeds, and the operation enters stage two. It is there that I can kind of tell Tatsuya Endo realized he wrote himself into a corner. Either he could speed up the pacing incredibly unnaturally and get to the parts where the story really progresses, or he could do it more naturally and spend what I personally believe is an annoying amount of time on Anya's wacky school mishaps. I'd still take the more natural pacing over anything, but I didn't much enjoy any of the episodes taking place in the academy after a while. It's in the second half where the show switches it's gears and becomes a lighthearted slice of life anime with awesome spy drama elements in the mix. And while that still worked for the large majority that was there to see Anya be an adorable little kid, I ended up disinterested for the most part. There comes a time in my life where I have to put my foot down, go against the grain, and bravely declare that I don't give a shit about Anya's little friends. Most of the episodes featuring them feel like filler that was included in the manga for whatever reason. I believe the show really shone the brightest when it focused on the family it gets it's namesake from. One compliment I can give Spy x Family that goes throughout it's entire 12 episode run is that the dynamic between Loid, Yor, and Anya is perfect for a show of it's type. Anya being fully aware of the secret identities of everyone around her added a perfect twist to a setup that didn't even demand a twist, yet is only improved by it. These three are the only motivation I need to make me watch the second part of the season when it comes out in October. Not to mention, I'm also a sucker for German-inspired settings (I mean, they live in Berlint.) -------------- Spy x Family is not perfect. Few shows are perfect besides Mob Psycho 100 II. It's also not weeb-bait trash. While I'm certainly critical about this anime, keep in mind that there are still parts that I seriously enjoyed, and those parts will keep me coming back for however long the story runs. With how it stands right now, I can't give it an 8/10 in good conscience, but I'm optimistic for how it'll continue. If you decided to ignore this entire review in favor of that convenient little number that throws a blanket statement on all my thoughts, it's a 78/100.
__A Wholesome, Easy-Watch Show__ Spy x Family, is a very easy to watch show. With 12 episodes, each around 24 minutes you can easily pass time by watching this show without feeling bored and having the need to look away. Generally speaking, this show for me is a Grade 10 or 100% as it fulfils all criteria. The criteria will be listed below: Great Characters: This show manages to demonstrate growth among it's 3 main leads, Loid Forger, Yor Forger, and Anya Forger where each of them throughout the 12 episodes show their individuality, through character and personality. Loid [Code Name Twilight] starts off reserved and a bit cold-hearted, however as the show continues on we can find he growing a bit of a heart. Although he still remains within the mindset of the mission he begins to demonstrate his caring-ness for his adopted family. Yor [Assassin name: Thorn Princess] is shown to be gentle and kind and yet has a violent, and somewhat evil side to her. Although her job involves her killing people she demonstrates through the episodes how she can be a caring mother to Anya, and a kind and convenient counterpart to Loid. And Anya, the telepathic child remains somewhat the same through the episodes, however this gives her a much more genuine feel as she is a child and children grow in bursts. Although, Anya in the final two episodes of season one (Ep: 11 and 12) begins to see how she can use her telepathic powers to save and help others. Easy to watch: Unlike many shows, Spy x Family remains a wholesome watch for all, which adds to it's 'easy to watch' factor. You can sit there and smile or giggle each time Anya has one of her realizations about her adoptive family, and giggle in happiness when you see them grow as a family. This enables the viewer to be able to easily sit their and enjoy the antics of the family, and sit in hopes to see them flourish and achieve world peace. Short but Sweet: Each episode manages to pack just the right amount in there. Even though the average anime episode length is 24 minutes, just like this show's episode duration, the episodes don't feel jam packed with material. Each episode feels like a sitcom which is a great new feeling for anime. You can see a new adventure being taken up in each episode with family/character growth in each. The episodes leave you wanting to see more, without feeling that you were in over your head or didn't get enough. In short, Spy x Family is a great show to watch and is highly recommended for both new, and seasoned anime fans. It feels new and it doesn't feel like too many anime tropes are being followed, and it is just purely entertaining and wholesome. The love and caring you feel from the family whilst aided with the suspense of their adventures really gives the viewer a very enjoyable experience.
All the hype is about... very simply... an entertaining show. The show has a wacky premise where a spy needs to infiltrate a school to get close to one of the country's general to stop a war. In order to do this he assembles a pretend family and enrolls his adopted daughter into the school so she could be friends with the son of the said general. The 'fake' family come together in a really endearing way where they all rely on each other not only for the 'mission' but literally for each other. The father figure of the 'fake' family despite initially making up this family for his mission seems to really care about them to the point of endangering the mission to protect their honor. Character dynamics aside the comedy is on point on every episode. Each episode have a different challenge where the family needs to accomplish in order to get closer to the true mission objective: to get in contact with the general. Absurd scenarios range from capturing a penguin to simply a game of dodgeball. Speaking of characters Anya the child of the 'fake family' is just great, she is the world to me. She is definitely the main hook of this show and the creators definitely understands this. So they really give her a lot of screen time and really put in the effort to sell her charm. _B-But Anya is just cutesy -wiutsy fan service..._ img220(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/FZm7IrbNkrI/maxresdefault.jpg) __Yes__ And I shamelessly and unapologetically love it. I have complimented the characters and the comedy of this series which I believe makes for a killer combination. The endearing characters and their dynamic makes up the bread and the cute and hilarious slapstick makes up the butter. The tags on Spy Family is absolutely clear and on point: _Action, Comedy, Slice of life, Supernatural_ And based on these tags alone I personally think it is absolute clear that Spy Family is not meant to be taken seriously. If you really want to be a stickler you can judge the logic of the premise, the questionable decisions of the main protagonists, the fact that many of their elaborate stunts do not arouse suspicion from the authorities or from each other... or why Anya is allowed to have cat ear accessories in such a prestigious school? I will be honest I don't care, its a 2D Japanese __Comedy __Cartoon with a cute pink haired girl. The music really compliments the 'spy' theme of the show. The OP is an absolute banger which really sells the absurdity of the premise of the show. The ED is a really calming tune which really reminds me of what a lovable group of misfits this family turn out to be. I really love Spy Family and anyone with a sense of humor and love feel good shows will definitely feel the same. Definitely recommend. :)
ok, essa é a minha primeira review, então se ficar ruim, não me culpem, ok? tá, então vamos lá. eu só assisti o que tem lançado até hoje, então não vou falar nada a partir do último capítulo que foi adaptado, no caso, a missão extra 2. assistir o anime pra mim foi uma expêriencia muito agradável, que me prendeu do início ao fim, eu dei várias risadas e definitivamente virou um dos meus favoritos de todos os tempos. img220(https://criticalhits.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/spy-x-family-loid-forger-anime.jpg) __1 - O Plot__ a série gira em torno de um espião da região de westalix chamado __Twilight__, que é designado para uma missão de investigar as ações do minístro de eastalix, Donovan Desmond. o codinome da missão é strix, e a partir daí, ele tem que criar uma família para inscrever sua filha num famigerado colégio chamado Eden, mas fica bem complicado fazer isso, pois o colégio tem um exame de aprovação muito rígido, então, adotando o nome de Loid Forger, o twilight tem que fazer tudo que lhe foi instruído, então ele parte para procurar uma filha; ele chega no orfanato, e encontra __Anya__, uma telepata. (porém, Loid não sabe disso.) ele acaba adotando a anya, que passa no exame escrito do colégio Eden, mas raspando. então eles recebem uma carta, que a próxima etapa para o exame, a anya tem que aparecer com pai... __e mãe__. então loid precisa procurar uma mãe, até que enquanto passa por uma loja ele encontra __Yor__ (uma assasina de aluguel.), que conseguiu passar despercebida pelo Loid, e percebe que ele está encarando ela. E Yor, estava procurando pela mesma coisa que twilight: __um parceiro__. então, os dois bolam um casamento falso para que Yor finja ser a mãe da Anya no exame, e para que Loid finja ser o namorado de yor em uma festa que ela vai. então, com a família formada, veremos as dificuldades que Twilight terá que passar para cumprir a missão Strix. __2 - A Diversão__ por toda a família estar escondendo a sua verdadeira identidade uns dos outros, vemos que a dinamia de eles tentarem esconder é muito divertida, por yor ser estranhamente habilidosa, vemos o loid surpreso até que demais por tanta habilidade mesmo sendo uma "cidadã comum". e também tem o fato da Anya ser uma telepata, que sabe de todos os segredos dos membros da família, e fica muito empolgada para ver no que vai dar o resultado dessa missão. enfim, para não dar muitos spoilers de como realmente é o anime, eu dei uma bela de uma resumida no primeiro tópico para todos se divertirem enquanto assistem. __3 - Os Personagens__ começando a falar da Anya, uma telepata que pode ler os pensamentos dos outros, uma habilidade bem interessante pra uma personagem tão fofa, que imagina cenários indo perfeitamente bem em tudo que faz, mas na hora de fazer ela se dá mal. uma personagem completamente divertida, que foi o principal motivo de eu ver a série, e que me fez dar muitas gargalhadas. por ter 6 anos, é bem legal ver o desenvolvimento da anya só querendo saber do desenho que ela gosta e não querendo estudar, mas sabendo de suas responsabilidades para manter a paz mundial. sua relação com o Damian Desmond, filho do alvo de twilight também é muito divertida de ver, por isso ela é minha personagem favorita. img220(https://i0.wp.com/www.otakupt.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Spy-x-Family-anya-smile-scaled-e1659109670833.jpg?fit=1920%2C1080&ssl=1) segundo, a Yor. uma personagem SUPER carismática e fofa, mesmo sendo uma ótima assasina nas horas vagas. também me fez rir em vários momentos, e eu adoro ela do fundo do meu coração. não tenho muito o que falar dela, mas fico bem ansioso vendo como ela vai tratar o relacionamento dela e do loid, que ela pensa que tem que ser perfeita para tudo. img220(https://trecobox.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2022/04/Yor.jpg) e por último, tem o Loid. é muito divertido ver ele perdendo as esperanças em continuar a missão por causa da família que ele arrumou ser extremamente peculiar, e as vezes as coisa nem acontecendo do jeito que ele planejou. suas reações são extremamente engraçadas. fico ansioso para ver como ele vai desenvolver o relacionamento com a anya, visto na série que ele não sabe muito bem como cuidar de crianças. também não tenho muito o que falar do loid, mas ele é o meu terceiro personagem favorito, atrás da Yor. img220(https://www.nerdsite.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Spy-x-Family-3.jpg) __4 - Conclusão: Recomendo ou Não?__ bem, pra concluir a minha review aqui, eu vou dizer se recomendo ou não Spy X Family. e a resposta é.... __SIM!__ Spy X Family foi um dos melhores animes que eu vi nos últimos tempos, e eu adorei muito vê-lo! se quiser ver um anime mais casual, mas mesmo assim tendo bastante ação e comédia, eu recomendo demais assistir spy x family. a história é agradável, os personagens são ótimos, e tudo é muito bem feito! com a animação sendo maravilhosamente feita pela Wit Studio. esse foi o final da review, espero que tenham gostado! img220(https://c.tenor.com/337DtR4gRoYAAAAC/spy-x-family-spy-family.gif)
Missions couldn't be a more apt way of naming the episodes. _Spy x Family_ immediately hits the ground running, and each episode of Operation Strix thereafter flies with urgent speed. There is always a mission objective - an obstacle to hurdle. But another one always stands, waiting for you as you overpower the one before. I think you get the point: there's a lot going on. It's both a strength and a weakness. There is never a dull moment. Every episode blows up with a metric ton of happenings, keeping me at the edge of my seat. But sometimes I can't keep up. As I watch the hijinks unravel in one episode, I'm still trying to process the previous one and scream "¡más despacio, por favor!" into my imaginary pillow. Narrative conventions are another thing to note. Seriously, I cannot figure out what in the Yor-yassified frick this anime is supposed to be. Comparing Spy x Family to established genre conventions yields not a linear scale, but a pentagon. Watching the first few episodes, I identified five possible threads: - A traditional rule-of-the-cool spy anime, reaching the realms of politics and corruption - An ironic portrayal of family and human connection that underlines distance, given form by a complex web of deception (think _A Separation_) - Isolated and wounded people learning to feel love - A commentary on veneers, secrets, and how lies maintain our society and the bonds that uphold it - Cute and wholesome vibes I anticipated a gravitation toward one or two of these motifs as the story progressed, but it fell right into the muddy middle. And it's not particularly tact or intelligent about it either. It has action and suspense you would expect of an espionage story, but it pales in comparison to anime's most thrilling. Moments of solemn introspection on the artificiality of family undercut the scenes right before: wholesome moments of, you guessed it, familial love. It's essentially a jack of all trades, and unfortunately the master of none. It's not to say that _Spy x Family_ utterly fails at balancing all these different themes. In fact, it's quite effective. The action still kicks ass, even if it doesn't engage me in the same way, say, _Death Note_ might. Its blend of motifs and scenes both serious and goofy is genuinely touching, and the contrast imbues everything with a curious irony. It's just that being 'good' at something is a completely different ball game than being 'masterful.' Fortunately, the main trio that form the core of this anime more than make up for it. The idea behind their character dynamics is simple. Loid is cool and calculated - the straight man, if you will. His objectives drive the plot. Yor is... I don't really know. She's a sophisticated assassin and a dim-witted mom - the perfect complement or foil to Loid, depending on what the situation calls for. And Anya is the agent of chaos, kinda like Chika Fujiwara, and comic relief. Loid's sophisticated schemes never go according to plan, and spiral entertainingly out of control. Her mind-reading powers also set the stage for internal warfare. Anya's powers keep us audience in the know as minds race to weave lies, react to situations, and plan strategies. It's rather blunt, but it works. Together, the dynamic trio achieve a near-perfect equilibrium. I began watching the first episode predicting that I would become a Yor simp (even a straight female friend simped for her, what makes you think I would be different?). I finished the last episode believing each member to be as indispensable and charming as the other two. It sounds small, but it's one of the hardest things to accomplish. Not even the almighty cast of _Kaguya-Sama_ (my golden standard for a well-rounded and charming cast in anime) could pull it off. All three are given equal weight, even though the plot unveils through Loid's perspective. I could watch them pull random shenanigans all day, even if you took away Operation Strix. Overall, _Spy x Family_ is not groundbreaking in anything, but it doesn't need to be. The charming main cast ties every thread into a surprisingly cohesive whole. It's a damn good time, and that's all that matters. I will remark on its potential though. Perhaps the second cour or a possible second season could explore more avenues in the characters and motifs. It's no masterpiece at present, but the title is definitely within reach. It just needs a little more. Random note: the OP and ED are a bop.
#__Overdose de foruraaa__ [SPOILERS LEVES] ~ temporada 1, parte 1 taaaao fofinho meu deus, vim pela Anya e fiquei pela Anya também hduasihdaushdad eu sou fraca demais por criança fofa, quando eu vi que ela tinha um superpoder (cheguei sem saber!) ai que bati o martelo mesmo o Twilight simplesmente perfeito, a Yor também belíssima, completamente apaixonada pelos dois ((*bi panic*)) o tanto que eu torci pra eles se revelarem um pro outro não ta escrito kkkkk Anya faz alguma coisa!!! a história é muito alegrinha, mas também bem empolgante quando quer ser. a cena de Anya se esforçando pra salvar o menino do afogamento me deixou toda arrepiada. quando Twilight salva ela do sequestro e relembra o propósito dele também foi foda demais! a Anya tendo que lidar com as frescuras da escola dos riquinhos é impagável kkkkkk muito elegante! o Yuri avaliando o Twilight também foi uma onda kkkkkkk eu te entendo Yuri!! quem não ia gostar de um homão da porra desses... uma coisa que eu achei muito legal é que a Anya não é uma criança gênia/prodígio como normalmente seria numa história dessas, ela é uma criancinha normal de 6 (??4??5??) anos que gosta de ver desenho, brincar, desenhar, não gosta de estudar, chora se for contrariada, é carinhosa com os pais, é inteligente e inocente na medida certa pra uma criança da idade. a única vantagem (e as vezes desvantagem) dela é a leitura de mentes, que ela também usa de uma jeito normal pra idade o traço é lindooo, a animação e o voice acting não tem *um* defeito, abertura e encerramento que seria uma afronta pular, tudo muito bem feitinho. até pensei em continuar pelo mangá, mas o anime ta tão lindo que vou esperar a parte 2 (que já sai agora 1º outubro!) pela olhadinha que dei no mangá, ta tudo muito fiel. essa primeira parte (12 eps) vai até o cap. 17, sendo tudo adaptado na ordem, menos o ep 12 que equivale ao cap extra 11.5. pra continuar do mangá pegue a partir do 17.5, e quando ficar em dia lembra de sempre dar uma forcinha la no site oficial da shueisha que deixa disponível os últimos 3 capítulos (tem em português) muito bonzinho pra treinar japonês tbm, todo esse vocabulário de espião que to aprendendo não será em vão!! vou reassistir prestando mais atenção nas falas, e inclusive tentar pegar as coisas erradas que a Anya fala (em língua de criança) mas já posso adiantar que tem expressões incríveis como「こんにちは... 悪いはこんばんは黄昏くん」que é 100% a vibe do bom dia brasil boa tarde itália, eu não me aguento eu literalmente não consigo pensar num ponto negativo pro anime, a única coisa seria eu querer muito que eles tivessem revelado suas identidades uns pros outros e obviamente não vai rolar nesse comecinho, é só falta de paciência minha Resumindo: completamente cadelinha desses 3 (e imagino q serei do futuro novo membro da família tbm aiai), espero que dê tudo certo com o anime e não desande, os estúdios tão de parabéns, vale MUITO a pena assistir ♥️ e obrigada Tatsuya-san pela história incrível!
It is your average over-exaggerated anime. You have seen it countless times but you cannot exactly put your finger on it what anime it reminds you off. You will find similar character archetypes just in different settings reacting surprisingly not very surprising ways. But that's not always a bad thing especially if this is the first time you watch these kinds of anime. So the protagonist is a famous Spy who is considered the best in his league. His job is to do anything by any means to stop a war accruing between the west and east. His latest operation is about to make a Family to get close to his newest target. Which is how we get introduced to our next main character Anya, who can mind read, which the Spy who now goes under the name Loid adopts. He would later "marry" Yor, an undercover killer. Besides Anya, nobody knows about each others secrets. This is where the hilarious part starts. Loid has to figure out how Anya can get 8 Gold Stars, Stella, within a month alongside the son of the target so he can get closer to him and finish his job. It is also interesting to see how each character tries to adapt to the new lifestyle. You have your emotional moments from time to time, but the main story usually takes a back seat compared to the comedy and setting. How the characters try to cover up what to us as viewers seem to be obvious. The characters are really likeable so far. Anya Forger feels and acts like a kid and despite her ability she doesn't always find solutions to each problem (as of the writing of this review). Yor Forger is an airhead and usually believes whatever she is told. She really does her best to be a good family member. Loid Forger has trouble to view things from the perspective of normal people which lead to some fun moments. But he is adapting and the family life seems to affect his usual decision making. There are other hilarious characters like Franky and the Headmaster. The animation is good and pleasing to the eye. And it also sounds great. The cinematography is also great with the touch to detail. Comedy is fine. Some of the jokes get set up with a pay off at the end. But there are also jokes that play with viewers expectation when it appears someone inherited something from another character like a habit or their will being strengthened only to face the harshness of reality. It's a very enjoyable series, but not something I will remember once a new season will start. Being a continuing story helps obviously but it's not something I would call a masterpiece. Just like how people will forget about Kaguya-Sama and some other shows. At least it's not a school setting... oh, there are schools in this show. Well, nevermind.
Spy x Family is an oddball tonal mashup that blends the action-packed and high-stakes world of spies with a heartwarming, family-friendly comedy. Loid Forger, codename "Twilight" is possibly the greatest spy in the world, and he has just received the most harrowing mission of his life: To make a family. The task requires him to mend the relationship between countries in a cold-war era Europe. To do so, Loid must worm his way into high society and spy on the leader of one political party. To complete his mission, he has to adopt a child and pose as an ideal parent, then enroll her into the same prestigious school as the leader's son, a challenging process alone. He quickly adopts a daughter, Anya, a secretly psychic 6-year-old. Soon after, he marries Yor, a civil servant who was also in the market for a pretend spouse to prevent the secret police from discovering her real identity: an assassin. Each person has their own secret, which gives this found family slice of life a unique twist. Everyone has to hide aspects of their life for happiness, especially parents having to hide dark truths to protect their family. Loid is a spy but poses as a psychiatrist. Anya's a telepath but acts like a normal kid to drive away suspicion. Yor is a civil servant but secretly a blood-thirsty assassin. These alter-egos are not all there is to them, however. Anya is just an innocent kid challenged with abandonment issues which motivate her need to impress her parents. Loid is so self-assured of his espionage abilities that it causes him to make mistakes, revealing there's a normal guy beneath his icy exterior. Even though Yor is a murderer, she possesses a strange sort of moral compass that justifies killing corrupt people in power for the greater good. The unlikely couple grows into the role of loving parents and learns to become better people from one another. It doesn't stand to reason that a veteran master of disguise wouldn't figure out his partner is secretly an assassin, but this anime relies so greatly on suspension of disbelief that it'll collapse if you don't forgive a few leaps in logic. Anya's powers typically work at convenient times, seemingly with no rhyme or reason, because she lacks control of them. It doesn't hold up to criticism but rarely takes itself seriously, so a few hiccups are easy to overlook. It is basically a way to relay information that can't be read through body language, but ultimately the story is told through a third-person omniscient point of view. Her power adds little to the storytelling and is more for keeping Anya in the loop, additionally making her a one-of-a-kind kid. The show doesn't get bogged down in the details of the setting, an ambiguous cold-war-inspired European country during the mid to late 20th century. There's barely any exposition dumping, and I love it for that. Loid's mission and politics are as detailed as the show needs to be because it's so much a spy anime as it is a family comedy with an added psychological twist and infrequent action scenes. An exciting part of spy flicks is spies' gadgets, such as James Bond's grenade pen and dagger shoes. That's not really a thing here. The most we get are secret messages Loid receives from his boss, such as through a microscopic coded letter inside a fake coin. I am tempted to say they underutilized the premise, but I wouldn't go as far as to say the whole spy aspect is simply window dressing on a typical seasonal comedy. It's merely a case of me setting my expectations too high because I fell for the zeitgeist again. The sincere emotional core is what truly makes the show unique. The first half builds the family's relationship to make room for the second arc, minus episode five, an exciting, filler episode that serves no narrative purpose, builds upon nothing and is never referenced afterward. As a comedy, the gags are often hit or miss in my experience, so an episode dedicated to one joke overstays its welcome quickly. Often more humorous than outright funny, where it succeeds the most is the endearing family dynamic and powerful backstories. There's a warm theme of companionship and teamwork at the center of Spy x Family, but what makes it subversive is its emphasis on how classism wrongfully defines people. It's an intriguing theme that gives the narrative some dramatic weight and makes for one of the show's strongest episodes when the family trio interviews to enroll Anya in the hoity-toity grade school. One school administrator targets Anya for being an orphan and judges Yor for her background. The interview brings out some entertaining performances; a comically devilish aristocrat administrator and other over-the-top aristocrats judging the family like they're on American Idol, but it's also a familiar story about superficiality. Most of all, it makes great comedy from an easy target, rude and uptight rich people. The theme continues as Anya experiences classism at the academy from pretentious children, and she retaliates in quite funny ways. Yor and Loid's devastating backstories reinforce this theme and add tons of depth to their interactions. Any critique of classism in the school system is muddled because there are certain aristocrats we're certainly meant to respect (not happening, sorry). While Cloverworks' infamously ugly CGI crowds are still present here, WIT Studio's solid animation makes it worthwhile. To create constant motion in the backgrounds, they shot themselves in the foot with 3D crowds, an issue that extends to every vehicle rendered in eye-popping CGI. Though the background art is solid, it's no match for the visual exhilaration of those fight scenes. I only watched the opening a couple of times because of its gorgeous fusion of colorful eyepopping visuals and energetic editing that is nowhere to be found in the show itself. Watching the opening made me wish the show was half as creatively directed. Expertise in the sound design is what elevated the manga adaptation, every motion has a sound effect finely tuned to give each scene liveliness; an achievement which extends to the well-mixed jazzy original soundtrack. I would recommend Spy x Family to anyone looking for a wholesome slice of life. There's a spy in it, and he certainly does spying, but it takes very little inspiration from the spy fiction genre and uses vague concepts to flavor a perfunctory family-friendly comedy anime. Nevertheless, the action scenes derived from the wacky premise are thrilling; car chases, hand-to-hand combat, and psychological warfare it's there and it's expertly animated. It's not exactly the masterpiece that the zeitgeist would have you believe, but it's a fun time I came away from enjoying.
SPY x FAMILY (Incomplete) [Full Review] Wit Studio & CloverWorks Objective Score: 10 Personal Score: 9.5 Season 1 (25) Times Watched: 1 Action, Comedy, Slice of Life, Supernatural Awards: Seal of Approval Recent Changes: n/a Similar to Komi Can’t Communicate, it was a massive deal in the anime and manga community that SPY x FAMILY was adapted into an anime at all. Not only that, but the show was placed into some pretty capable hands with CloverWorks and Wit Studio at the helm; two studios with incredible pedigree. The premise of SPY x FAMILY is absolutely hilarious and brilliantly crafted. A spy on a covert mission needs to gather a fake family to stop a war between two countries, but unknowingly adopts a child with mindreading powers and pretends to marry a woman who is secretly an assassin; and all of them need to keep their secrets from getting out, though that is easier said than done when Anya, the telepathic child, figures out both their secrets within seconds of meeting. SPY x FAMILY is downright hilarious with it’s comedic timing, and it’s only amplified with a premise that wholeheartedly welcomes the comedic misunderstandings that come with the show’s premise. Outside of the comedy, SPY x FAMILY’s storytelling is tight and precise. The characters are interesting and varied, especially the Forger family, and the character writing is second-to-none. The animation is smooth and clean with an amazing pastel color palette. Normal, everyday life for the Forger family is animated quietly while still leaving room for expressive faces and reactions. And when the show wants to let loose, it pops off with slick and smooth action with incredibly fluid animation. The sound design is also brilliant. The 50’s jazz background music is beautifully composed and stands out from the jpop soundtracks of most modern anime. It just perfectly fits the aesthetic of the show. Even outside of the stellar animation, hilarious comedy, and tight storytelling, one of the best aspects of the show is the voice acting. Each character has their own mannerisms and way they speak that helps their characters pop off the screen. Even minor characters are fully realized and are an absolute joy to watch. SPY x FAMILY does a great job sidestepping around stereotypical anime tropes that the immense popularity of the show could accidentally fall into. There is very little SPY x FAMILY offers that I could find problems with. It is a tightly written show with hilarious and realistic characters, fluid action, a hyper realized 50’s aesthetic, and gorgeous music direction. It is an absolutely joyous ride that I believe everyone can and will enjoy.
"Chichi, chipompa chimpompa" - Anya Forger I believed from the trailers and promotions that Spy x Family was going to be a very fun ride, and as matter of fact it is. You got to see three characters trying to make up a normal family, but what makes these three members very memorable is that they have interesting roles: there's Loid (secretly named as Twilight) who is a spy, Yor who is an assassin, and Anya who is an esper. So on top of a super simple story about a family doing slice of life stuff there are few well directed action scenes, and an alright comedy that consists for the majority of Anya doing funny derp faces that quickly became an overused meme. ~~~img600(https://www.nerdpool.it/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/spy-x-anime.jpg)~~~ The show is as basic as you can expect, which is honestly not a bad thing, at least for me because I can always appreciate simple shows without much going forward. There's no drama and no particularly important twist, only quite of few serious moments when the characters go through risky missions with even some not very noticeable dark turns with people getting shot or even blowing up, but the series is mostly about a group of characters struggling to support each other. The only slight complain I have is that I wish the characters have something more to be said and knowing more things about them, but all I can think of them so for right now is Loid is cool and handsome, Yor is badass, caring and hot, Anya is cute and strange. I guess this can improve for the next part but no much stands out outside of few likable personalities, but still not disappointed because the characters stands out a little thanks to amusing moments such as Lois rescuing Anya from a group of criminals revealing that Loid is also a master of disguise, and also Yor gets drunk during a party and briefly fights against Loid to "save princess Anya" + Yor relationship with her brother, or even Anya trying to get along with her classmates but since most of them are jerks she fights back with her esper abilities. Which brings to the "funny" memeable Anya faces, they should be the highlights of the show in terms of comedy but they never made me laugh once since they don't bring anything creative or innovative to the table, they were... there. ~~~img600(https://sportshub.cbsistatic.com/i/2022/04/10/1612ad68-d79b-4e1c-bd40-eae5b2397358/spy-x-family.png)~~~ The series is also carried a bit by well put out animation, not the most impressive I've seen but the fights are well choreographed, and with good movements everything that is action or not looks great and many shots has highly detailed backgrounds. All in all Spy x Family deserves a shot and its high popularity in recent months is understandable, it's a pleasant family friendly show where you don't have to think much about important plot infos and you just have a lot of fun with, you can watch it with your friends and/or family members and having a good time without worry about violence or fanservice. I'm interested to see what part 2 has to offer, hopefully on the same level of enjoyment or even better. ~~~img600(https://www.nerdpool.it/wp-content/uploads/2022/05/Spy-x-Family-preview-8.jpg)~~~
