JoJo no Kimyou na Bouken (TV)

Beginning its tale in 19th century England, young aristocrat Jonathan Joestar finds himself locked in bitter rivalry with Dio Brando, a low-born boy who Jonathan's father took under his wing after the death of Dio's father. Discontent with his station in life, Dio's fathomless lust to reign over all eventually leads him to seek the supernatural powers of an ancient Aztec stone mask in the Joestar's possession—an artifact that will forever change the destiny of Dio and Jonathan for generations to come.

Fifty years later, in 1938 New York City, Jonathan's grandson Joseph Joestar must take up his grandfather's mission and master the abilities necessary to destroy the stone mask and its immensely powerful creators who threaten humanity's very existence, the Pillar Men.

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is an unusual series, and not just because it contains adventures that could be described as "bizarre." No, it's unusual in that it is difficult to provide an objective review on the show. There are several reasons for this. The first is that the season is divided into two separate arcs that are wildly different, with the first 9 episodes covering the Phantom Blood arc and the last 17 episodes covering Battle Tendency. The second is that it is a very direct translation of the manga, which means that elements that worked better on the page are unable to translate to the screen well. But most importantly, many elements in JoJo's Bizarre Adventure are flat-out bad, but the show manages to be enjoyable despite--or even because of--them. The first arc, Phantom Blood, tells the story of Jonathan Joestar and Dio Brando. Jonathan (who goes by the nickname JoJo) is a young man who strives to become a true gentleman. Dio, meanwhile, can pretty much only be described as pure evil. After Jonathan's father takes Dio in after his own father's death, fulfilling a promise he had made to the man, Dio attempts to make JoJo's life hell for pretty much no real reason. The larger plot is kicked off by an ancient stone mask displayed in the house. When this mask comes into contact with blood, it grows spikes that, if worn, would pierce its wearer's brain. JoJo and Dio accidentally discover this and begin researching the mask on their own. Dio is the one to ultimately discover its true purpose and ends up using it to become a vampire. The rest of the story follows JoJo as he learns how to harness the energy of the sun through a martial art called Hamon and use it to stop Dio's vampire rampage. Phantom Blood is a rocky start to the series. The first episode is so unpleasant to watch that I almost didn't continue on to the second one. It is just an extended sequence of Dio actively attempting to make JoJo's life miserable for no good reason. It's not as if JoJo did something that would warrant the sort of actions Dio takes. Dio's thought process is simply "how do I make JoJo's life as miserable as possible?" The series also suffers from underdeveloped or unmemorable characters. Apart from Dio, the villains are largely just generic vampires or ghouls that lack much personality. Will Zeppeli is a bit quirky, but he enters and leaves the story suddenly with no real sense of actually belonging. Erina, Jonathan's love interest, barely even speaks, and almost all the other characters are completely irrelevant to the plot. Some characters only seem to exist so that someone can stand on the sidelines and explain what's happening to manga readers--which makes the characters completely redundant in the anime. Our leads are not much better. Dio has very little character beyond being pure evil, and while Jonathan's nobility is conceptually interesting and makes him something of a badass, it also makes him seem one-note and bland. Despite that, there are elements of a good story. JoJo and Dio have a Cain and Abel type of relationship, Hamon and the stone mask are interesting worldbuilding elements, and most events are framed in a melodramatic way that makes them engaging. It's enjoyable to watch, but the flaws keep it from being as gripping as it should. The second arc, Battle Tendency, is a bit stronger. It focuses on Jonathan Joestar's grandson, Joseph Joestar (also nicknamed JoJo), as he encounters the Pillar Men, the creators of the stone mask in Phantom Blood. In order to combat this group of superhumans, he undergoes training alongside Caesar Zeppeli, Will Zeppeli's grandson, in order to properly master Hamon. I found Joseph to be a much more interesting protagonist since he's a trickster character. He isn't as powerful as his grandfather was, so he uses guile to outwit his enemies. In addition, more characters seem to have more presence in the story. Speedwagon is the head of the Speedwagon foundation and is able to provide resources when need be. Erina is the matriarch of the Joestar family and is able to provide direction to the unfocused Joseph. Caesar is a friendly rival to Joseph and is actually more powerful than him, so he's able to fight alongside him and even have his own battles. Even the Nazis Joseph encounters early in the arc end up being valuable allies later on. Everything just ties together a little bit better. This is not to say that Battle Tendency is not without its flaws. It too has its share of completely superfluous characters who only exist to do play-by-play of events we just saw, and a big revelation that shows up near the end is indirectly spelled out earlier in the series. The fact that it's not touched upon until later can lead the viewer to believe that there's a bit of a plot hole. And it's also dumb. It's very dumb. Due to Joseph's character, it's even dumber than Phantom Blood. But hey, while that's a turnoff to some, it's also a selling point to others. If you're watching JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, it's probably not because it's good. It's just because it's fun. It's ridiculous, it's stupid, it's overblown...and yet it's fun. Usually, when bad shows take themselves seriously, they become worse. But when JoJo takes itself seriously, the act of taking itself seriously becomes a joke in and of itself. It's emotional, it's melodramatic, and it's dumb. So basically, it's a shounen anime, but it's so unique in how it's structured and the types of characters that it uses that it doesn't _feel_ like a shounen anime--at least, not the type that people are used to. It's not going to be an anime for everyone, but it's one that fans of comedy or action should at least give it a shot. Four stars.

__JoJo's Bizzare Adventure__ is a series that I used to avoid mainly because of the fanbase... (and as irony may have it, I'm now sinking into the fandom) but I eventually gave in. I sat down and watched Phantom Blood/Battle Tendency and now that I've finished it, I figured that a review is a given. Though one thing is for certain, the word ''bizzare'' isn't just for show. The show's overdescriptive manner and fittingly bizzare contents managed to captivate me and now I'm hooked. **CONTAINS SPOILERS** ____ __PART 1 - Phantom Blood__ [EP 1 - 9] img220(https://imgur.com/rzgb26o.jpg) The beginning of the story and the ground for everything else to come. It all starts with Dio Brando's arrival as Jonathan Joestar's adopted brother to accomplish his goal of overtaking the Joestar mansion and heritage. The Phantom Blood arc is split in 2 halves - the first half being Jonathan and Dio's childhood as they grow up in the same household while Jonathan has to endure Dio's constant torture and eventual mutual peace. But that's just on the surface, Dio only got on good terms with JoJo to put his plan in motion. Jonathan reveals his scheme to everyone and as it crumbles down, Dio kills Jonathan's father and casts away his humanity to become a vampire. With JoJo going through deadly hurdles to eventually destroy Dio and the mask and bring peace back to his and everyone else's lives, eventually succeeding but forfeiting his own life in the process, leaving behind his pregnant wife as a set up for the next arc. Phantom Blood's pacing is extremely fast and haphazard but that's one of it's charms alongside the bizzare characters and great art direction. While the fast pace made the arc more enjoyable in a certain aspect, it's also the reason why some other moments just fell short, it sucked the impact out of them. And the overall writing had a few misses here and there, mainly in the first half, as a lot of the issues that were present could've been solved simply by logic (I know, it's not something I should look for in JoJo) and Jonathan just properly explaining what's actually happening and what Dio's true personality is to his father. The characterization for everyone is as simple as it gets, but that's not bad, since JoJo's greatness comes with it's simplicity. Everyone's based around a single trait. Jonathan wants to be a true gentleman, and his behaviour over the course of the series certainly lives up to that. Meanwhile Dio's just straight up rotten to the core. He's violent, arrogant and selfish. Although that's something most likely caused by the harsh enviorment he was raised in, while JoJo was pampered and spoiled. Although as Part 1 went on, I didn't really get attached to a single character besides Dio and Jonathan. Overall Part 1 is a fun arc with interesting concepts and ideas that were executed properly, It's got a lot of charm thanks to it's bizzare cast of characters, the captivating art and great soundtrack but some aspects could've been executed better, and without pulling my punches... the writing is actually kind of bad, as a core part of JoJo lies in complete ass pulls... and it isn't consistent in executing them properly. Not for part 1 at the very least. ____ __PART 2 - Battle Tendency__ [EP 10-26] img220(https://imgur.com/37TLSYi.jpg) This is the the longer part of the two. It's also a lot more consistent in structure, making it easier to follow. It takes places 2 generations later, with our main protagonist being Joseph Joestar, the grandson of the late Jonathan Joestar as he gets pulled into events caused by what happened 50 years ago. He's the only one who can defeat the Pillar Men, the ones who inadvertently started everything. JoJo, together with Speedwagon seeks out Caesar A. Zepelli to improve his Hamon, and over tough experiences together, the two form a manly bond and set out to defeat the Pillar Men. As the events unfold Joseph learns more about Hamon and gets stronger and stronger and eventually defeats the Pillar Men, though not without losses along the way. The pace in Battle Tendency isn't as fast as Phantom Blood's, giving you more time to ease in into the premise and to get attached to the characters, which is great because the characters themselves are a lot more fleshed out than Part 1's cast. Not only is the nuance of the characters a couple notches above Phantom Blood's, the combat system itself is a lot more fleshed out, with us getting an actual idea on how Hamon works within the universe alongside a more appealing use for it. The writing is more tight and suspensful although it still keeps the same ''plot twist'' style where it just introduces stuff out of left field, every battle feels like a struggle and there were well executed twists that I didn't expect though, these kind of non-sense twists in battle actually work really well thanks to Joseph whose personality was literally made to be the protagonist of this series, except we all know he gets replaced with his brick of a grandson in the next part. We get to see the gradual pace and effort put in which JoJo learns how to use Hamon instead of magically being a prodigy at it. The characters as a cast also have a much better dynamic than Part 1's quickly put together group of characters that have no real synergy with each other (Dio and Jonathan are an exception). Joseph feels energetic and fresh, he's a joy to look at on the screen at all times and his defining trait of being a cunning trickster has a pretty wide application withing the story, unlike Jonathan's bland gentleman etiquette. Joseph also grows in the story to an extent, starting out as someone who's easier to anger but matures in some aspects over the course of the story. JoJo's main companion during the story is Caesar A. Zepelli, the grandson of Part 1's Will A. Zepelli. Unlike his grandpa, Caesar has a properly presented personality and his dynamic with Joseph feels like a brotherly bond, something that Part 1 tried to achieve with Jonathan and Will to an extent as suggested by Will's words ''you're both like a son and a brother to me'', though it didn't succeed. We also spend considerably more time with Caesar than we do with Will, which makes him a lot easier to get attached to. Part 2 as a whole feels like a natural successor to Part 1, with pretty much a similar overtone but much much better execution. The OST of Part 2 is a lot better, it's used at the most appropriate times, pulling you into the scene even more. Though I certainly didn't expect dubstep, it actually fit well. Overall, Part 2 is a fantastic experience, with a fun - unique cast, great soundtrack and better writing and is a natural improvement of everything in Part 1 by a large margin with some flaws that I think inherently come from Araki's writing and not the adaptation itself. While I've yet to see what's to come in the future Parts of JoJo's Bizzare Adventure, I can see why Part 2 receives the high praise that it does. Edit : I've seen Part 3. It's not nearly as good.

[**_(SPOILER AHEAD)_ STORY:**]() JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Season 1 contains Part 1 and 2. Keeping that in mind I shall first talk about Part 1. Part 1 of JoJo, my least favourite part and sole reason I didn't give this a 100/100. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad but compared to Part 2+ it is somewhat lacklustre. Though that being said it is important to watch Part 1 as it introduces us to the Joestars and the Dio. The Joestar family has a strong connection to "Justice" and "Gentlemanliness", this is important since through out the series and especially this part we get to see our hero, Jonathan Joestar, fight the evil that has been activated by Dio. ___To summarize Part 1:___ The story focuses on Jonathan Joestar, a gentleman and the symbol of good. He lost his mother in an accident and got ~~robbed~~ helped by the Brando family. After few years and the death of Dario (Dio's father), Dio is sent to the Joestar abode where he tries his best to take down JoJo and get rich quick.... until a day that changed everything. JoJo discovers that a Stone Mask they have in their mansion activates with blood, curious he decides to study it. That is the point in which Dio tries to poison JoJo's father, JoJo ventures to London where he meets best girl Speedwagon. During JoJo's journey Dio decides to take a peak at his belongings including the notes on the Mask, curious he takes the mask and tests it out on some strangers on the streets, he soon notices them turning into vampires, this is the most pivotal moment of the WHOLE series, ever since the show gets its famous Bizarre twist. Jonathan meets Zeppeli and trains with Hamon to defeat the Vampires and now evil vampire Dio. _(Yes I skipped a LOT but stay with me, I still gotta do Part 2 xd)_ ~~~img420(https://archive-media-0.nyafuu.org/bant/image/1513/45/1513459789251.gif)~~~ Moving on to Part 2, we are introduced to a new Joestar, Joseph Joestar is the main character of this one. He is much more crazy and wacky than Jonathan but still has his iconic Good Nature just like Jonathan did. This part is the one that has dragged me deeper and deeper into the series. ___To summarize Part 2:___ Joseph Joestar goes about his life unbeknownst to him he posses the power of Hamon. Joseph gets dragged into the bizarre world when get is told about Speedwagons "death" and when Straizo attacks him. Ever since that points JoJo has been on the hunt for Speedwagon. He soon finds out he is alive in a Nazi bunker with this "Pillar Man". These humanoid creatures have incredible power and could easily wipe the whole human race off the planet. There is more than 1 and they have been taking a nap for 2000 years but are soon waking up. Ever since then JoJo has been on a hunt for the Pillar Men because of both bravery and bad life decisions. There was an issue... JoJo did not have the power to defeat all of the Pillar men therefore he had to train, his master being "Lisa Lisa". He only had a month to train due to a challenge he set up with the Pillar Men, he has one month to train and win a battle with them or else rings inside him would break and kill him. This motivated JoJo quite a bit. *(I won't go into more detail, I think ya get the gist)* ~~~img420(https://media1.tenor.com/images/392da4650dfa83b3055069e39ad74b45/tenor.gif?itemid=7319727)~~~
[**CHARACTERS:**]() Part 1 of JoJo introduces us to many good characters and one of the best villains in the series. Jonathan Joestar, the main character, he is a very Justice oriented Gentleman. He tries his hardest to bring peace and get along with everyone. But ever since Dio showed up and turned himself into a Vampire JoJo has been hard at work to defeat him and all the evil he's managed to bring upon this cursed land. Dio Brando, the main villain of the show, Dio did not have a good childhood. His father was an asshole and did not care for Dio. Because of that reason Dio has been an evil little soul who just wants easy money. Dio has shown us that he will stop at nothing to get what he wants, he has done many disgusting things to piss off JoJo, like for example shove JoJo's dog into a furnace and let him burn. Speedwagon, best girl. Speedwagon does not really have any kind of purpose in the first part of JoJo, he's just there to be the narrator. Though that being said he has shown deep respect towards the Joestar family and became the number one best girl because of that. Lastly I shall be talking about Zeppeli, the one who taught JoJo the way of Hamon. He is a much more chaotic character compared to JoJo but still can keep his calm. He is very well versed in Hamon and too wants the Vampires and Stone Masks destroyed. These characters compared to the rest of the series aren't that good, apart from Speedwagon, but they do serve an important role like I mentioned earlier. They show us just how Bizarre this show is and also show us the way of the Joestars. Without this part the viewers would be left confused as to what the ulterior motives of the Joestar family is. ~~~img420(https://media1.tenor.com/images/25600454c925dde1519b3370388a22d8/tenor.gif?itemid=7367270)~~~
[**ART/ANIMATION:**]() In this section of the already long enough review I won't be talking individually about the parts but instead comparing them and giving some insight on how it is. Part 1's art style and animation is the reason, in my opinion, that people turn away from JoJo. It feels clunky and looks a bit bulky. I personally did not have an issue with it when I first watched the show but looking back on it I get where people are coming from. In Part 2 the animation looks much more fluid and the fights are much more intricate, the art style too got a little upgrade. Going from mainly dark to more light colour pallete. Both parts still do have the Super Muscly guys but Part 2 lessens that down by a bit, so although my muscle mass does not increase as much now when watching JoJo I do get some visually appealing fights with Hamon. The details, too, have improved quite a bit between the two parts. ~~~img420(https://i.gifer.com/7xlm.gif)~~~
[**MUSIC:**]() I shall be doing the same here as I did with the Art/Animation section. The OST of Part 1 is quiet and much more "Classical" (I suppose that description will do). This fits perfectly with the olden year theme that is going on especially when we get to the villages and castles that Dio has plundered. The OST for Part 2 is a bit louder and more "Modern". Especially the track "Awaken" the theme of the Pillar Men. This song in particular is the pure defenition of Part 2. Both of the OPs that play are very good. The songs and animation present are outstanding and to this day I still listen to them. ~~~img420(https://66.media.tumblr.com/d7a980bcc5c7361e72cf8cb3451de7e0/tumblr_nb0kmcXmco1snbyiqo2_500.gif)~~~
[**OVERALL OPINION:**]() JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a series which manages to suck nearly anyone who watches it. Yes there are people who dislike this show but compared to the sheer amount of people who love this show they are quite small. I also keep hearing more and more people talking in real life about this show which indicated that it has hit the mainstream audience, say what you will about that but I personally think that this is great since it opens up more people to this ~~cult~~ fanbase of JoJo which is always great. Remember though, no Part skipping.

Wracając do muzyki… Tutaj można by wrócić do kwestii, którą poruszyłem przy Phantom Blood. Sądzę, iż przyniosłoby to same plusy. Ktoś mógłby teraz zarzucić argument, że trzeba było trzymać się oryginalnej mangowej fabuły i nie wolno nic zmieniać, bo... bo trzeba trzymać się oryginału i kropka! Okej, argument w całości do mnie trafia. Everything this show has to present, including its artstyle, music, openings, closings, characters, character design, voice actors, its all a mere masterpiece. (This review will contain spoilers with warning) img220(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/-nIBZ-mv9yU/maxresdefault.jpg) __ ( Very Minor Spoiler [For people who haven't seen it]) Review:__ JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is an anime that was made back in 2012. It centers around a boy named Jonathan Joestar, and another boy they brought in around the same age named Dio Brando. Jonathan and Dio end up becoming enemies after Dio tries pulling Jonathan's hoe. Dio then wants to take the Joestar fortune and tries everything he can in order to do so, even if that involves losing his life. JoJo BA is made up of 2 parts. Each taking place in different timelines (no major gaps). The art is very colorful, mostly made up of vibrant and bright colors (like purple, pink, blue, etc.). This is also proven in the openings of the anime (opening 2 is just amazing). The art style is also very solid, I love every bit of it. __Sub or Dub:__ Subbed JoJo is what i think adds to the show even more. The talent from the voice actors presented in the subbed is amazing, and definitely should be your choice __Beginner Anime?:__ If you are new to watching anime, I suggest you watch a little bit of anime before you start this show. It will make it way more enjoyable (in my opinion) __SPOILERS FOR THE SHOW BELOW__ __Openings:__ #Sono Chi No Sadame youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=caM2hEV69ac) This opening is astonishing. The mix of the 2D (manga) and amazing 3D art throughout this entire opening is fantastic. I never wanted to skip this opening when I was watching part 1 because of the visuals. The music, on the other hand, is also very good. I think the person's voice represents the "manliness" aka seriousness represented by the characters' designs. Overall this opening is a definite 5/5 for me. #Bloody Stream youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PcuTPjgMiXw) This opening definitely deserves the hype it gets. The music, colorfulness, and animation make this one of the greatest and most memorable openings in anime. I love how the lyrics also match up with the meaning of whats going on in the show. For example, "The pillars have been sleeping for centuries, they have awakened". I can go on forever about this opening, but ima cut it short and give it a obvious 5/5 in my book. __Episode Notes:__ #Episode 23 Ending: Sent chills down my spine, very good reveal that Lisa Lisa was his mother. #Episode 26 Ending: I seriously thought Joseph died, I was sad. When I saw him walking up behind Erina I knew it had to be someone in his clothes but thank god that wasnt the case. __Favorite Character:__ #Joseph Joestar img220(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/5UPrJ2iV2eU/maxresdefault.jpg) Hes my favorite character because of how fun and silly he is. I love how he always has a plan up his sleeve. Hes perfect at tricking his enemies and getting under their emotions to use that against them. Him and Ceaser (rip) were also a great duo. __Conclusion:__ JoJo's Bizarre Adventure is a must watch in my book. I love the characters, colorful designs, animation, voice actors, basically everything about this show is amazing in my eyes. I give this anime a 9.8/10 on my list. Now excuse me while i go watch Stardust Crusaders. Enjoy!

*English is not my primary language * I'm going to divide the analysis into two blocks: phantom blood the first and battle tendency the second Phantom blood: I will start with the story which made me quite boring, although I find quite original the concept of putting monsters and a power that is controlled through breathing in the nineteenth century but, I think it becomes quite heavy and did not finish hooking the more casual audience, although it must be recognized that although it is boring it is well built and carried in general 6/10 The characters, while also well built and with justified actions throughout the story, become too serious and dramatic, the only one that is more or less saved from this drama complex is Zeppelin and Dio but why I already knew the meme of "it was I Dio" the rest became quite dramatic, especially Jonathan 5/10 The music although for me it was not very memorable but I think it was level and above all it was very well placed, the rhythms were good and they knew how to start at the right time to convey the feelings of the momento, Although the opening is not bad at all and I really liked it 6/10 I found the drawing really good, but if anything I think stands out this anime is in its animation, it has some really good moments visually speaking, it is in my opinion it is the part where the anime stands out plus 8/10. This first part was not entirely to my liking it became quite heavy and it took me quite a while to finish it since it became very heavy, if we do the accounts of the notes that I have been putting we get an average of 5 (6+6+8+5=25÷4=5) But I think the fairest note is a 5'5 because it's a little bit the one that starts it all Battle Tendency: Well the idea of this second part is to continue in a certain way Phantom blood taking a temporary leap of about 50 years, In the time of Nazi Germany At first we may think that we will continue on the same path of a somewhat heavy history, only that it now has the Nazis, but although at first it is, it gradually becomes more interesting and entertaining because of the twists it's taking the truth and you know how to get along pretty well all the time 7/10 The characters are certainly the strong point, although previous characters such as Spewdragon or Erina are repeated these go into the background for almost the entire plot to give rise to very characteristic characters such as Joseph, Stroheim, Caesar or Lisa Lisa, who seemed very memorable to me and also added a touch of humor to the plot to which it feels like a ring to your finger and that does not tire you , could not wait to see when it would be the next time Joseph re-predicted what your rivals were going to say, I really liked the Characters of Battle Tendency 9/10 The music on this occasion if it improved quite a bit, the opening seemed really good and there are some OST that stayed with me like that of the Nazis or those of the men of the pillar (Wamuu, Esidisi or Kars) I really quite liked the songs of this part of the season 8/10 The animation is maintained quite well, there is not much more to say since... It's about the same as Phantom blood 8/10 This part of the season I really liked it more and it became much more enjoyable than that of phantom blood the truth, so its average of 8 (8+8+9+7=32÷4=8) It's pretty correct and I enjoy it a lot more than Phantom Blood Final conclusion: This first season of Jojos is a coin, because it has a really boring face and that you will not like (phantom blood) but another very charismatic that can come to conquer (battle tendency) although I did something heavy I had fun watching this sign for that although the average would be a 6'75 (8+5,5=13,5÷2=6,75) I think the most suitable note is a 7.7 since Phantom Blood are not as many episodes as Battle Tendency Final Note: 7.7

>You Thought you would have your first kiss with Jojo, BUT IT WAS ME, DIO! -__Dio (Brando)__ Just in case, I must say that this is a review from Part I, the review of part II it's going to be another, 'cause they are so different from each other that It wouldn't make sense to do a review of both. So just wait. And for now, ~~~__PHANTOM BLOOD BABY__~~~ ~~~img440(https://i.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/newsfeed/000/754/539/566.gif)~~~ --- Well, Phantom Blood is... Weird. Im a really good way, but still weird. I know lots of JojoFags have this as their favorite part, but everyone thats not really into Jojo will take this as their Least Favorite part. About me? Well, let's find out. There are a huge ammount of Fight-Shonen anime arround Japan, some of them are basic and bad, like Fairy Tail, some are basic and good, like Boku No Hero, and there are some who steps away from the basics and make something new and different, like Shingeki o Kyojin, and Mob Psycho 100. --- But Jojo, Jojo it's different, Jojo isn't basic, at all, but doesn't fit on the "different shounen" style, since the story doesn't run away from it's premise, at least at part I. There are the main character that fights the bad guy, magic powers, the sensei, the warriors, and deaths, lots and lots of deaths. But, even though, if you watch like, Naruto, and then watch this, you won't relate it to Jojo, at all. Since the narrative is not conventional, it takes the time it wants to make things happen, and the direction of the anime works toghether with the animator to make the scenes as _bizarre_ as the manga, wich is for one side good, because it all combines into a same narrative with great cohesion, but at the other side, the bizarre levels can be unwatchable. Not that it is so bad that is hard to watch, but maybe the goodness of the anime makes it unwatchable. Do you understand me? ~~~img440(https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/510377980971420510/9BEF8F09D0B69768C9154BFACDFC91FFA5A97D6A/)~~~ --- Answering the question from the begining, Yes. I kinda like _Phantom Blood_, but I genuinely understand whoever dislikes or even hates this part. Because, it's really not easy to watch, and lots of people ran away from Jojo just because of this part. And the worst part of all is that the Anthology series just gets better with the elapse of the parts, and even more enjoyable. The characters become even more intresting and the fights and action scenes become even more creative. But one thing is consistent (besides the fact that all the MCs are blood related), the nonsensical vibe persists through every single episode of every single arc of every single part. But going back to talking about part one... Yes, I like Phantom Blood, and the main reason I like this part is because of both Protagonist and Antagonist, that worked so well, but for different reasons. --- ~~~img440(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/be/5b/2b/be5b2b6f4b0e35a5b33f5fe7b9d6c357.gif)~~~ Jonnathan Joestar is (in my interpretation) the representation of Superman, but in a tragical side of the spectrum, since Superman is unbeatable, while Jonnathan is far from that. But the thing that unites both is their unshakable wish to do the right thing, their pureness and compassion for even the most despicable creatures is a step to make him intresting, but what makes him an awesome protagonist is the fact that his quallities are tested all the time, with people leting him down constantly and the lost of allies. His personallity is great for his friends, but not as great for him, and the ending is the cullmination of all his characterization throughout the season; and I loved it. --- ~~~img440(https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/863988638211226210/6CF7B82227FAFDEE18342D86B162BF3E4C1CBAEF/)~~~ And at the other side of the spectrum is Dio (Brando), who isn't exactly the personification of some villain, but as superman was built in 1939 as the representation of good, Dio is the representation of pure evilness, like when he is adopted by upper class gentle people, but still is an asshole with his brother Jonathan, making his life pure torture so he commits suicide and lets all the fortune with him, and all that with 12 years. That's the bizarre part, but what makes him intresting, is that, as the evil is seductive, Dio is bizarrelly charismactic, a perfect combination of the script, the direction, and of course, Takehito Koyasu, embracing the "sedducive" side of this evil being, as stupid as it seems. --- And are that confliting personalities that makes the main conflict seems so cool besides so weird. And I apply this to the main powers, the use for the powers, and the (almost) omnipotence of Dio (Brando). But don't misunderstand me, I didn't give all that speech to say that everyone who dislikes part 1 as a whole is wrong, no. Like, if I can (truly) criticize something is the overreaction to everything that some characters show, specially SpeedWagon. (Don't get me wrong, I love my Speed Wagon as much as you, but u must agree with me that his overraction at some really punctual moments it gets anoying.); but it is far from ruining the experience. --- Between lots of bizarre stuff, I think I can say that Phantom Blood is a good start for what would become one of the most creative and stylish modern series, and even though not every single Araki's choice actually worked, I can say that this narrative experiment was in matter fact well succeded. PS: You will understand why I put the "Brando" between parentheses

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure has been a ride for me. I got into it, because of it's massive Impact on the anime community as a whole and how it bends the rules of traditional anime and makes me laugh and sob at the drop of a checkered hat. Stories in traditional "shonen" or "for boys" anime fall into obvious tropes that JoJo does not. Normal anime will follow a main character (mostly male) trying to solve a problem through fights. JoJo follows that guideline with some major improvements. When following one main character you run into the problem of the story becoming boring or the main character becoming so overpower that they seem not likable because they run out of the faults that make them human. JoJo switches off the baton of the main focus of the story with it not being about one Joestar, but a family of Joestars. Each Joestar has one problem to solve and a loads of amazing support characters that make this a lovable and amazing series pretty much perfect for me. that being said, I know this show is far from perfect with it's many plot holes and unfinished stories, and lets not talk about the way far away things look in the anime, but in my eyes this story of a family overcoming trials and tribulations is just enough for me to call it my favorite piece of fiction. Holy I can't express how much I love this it's a masterpiece it's memes it's sound effects the dramatic letters and the fact that there's like 3 more parts for this series is very anticipating I recommend that you watch this anime it's very very good. This show is one of the most influential series to come out of japan next to dragonball and fist of the north star. It is the reason we have games like persona or great fighting game characters like guile or juri. Jojo's bizarre adventure has influenced popular anime like One piece, Hunter x Hunter, Yu Yu hakusho, and Shaman king. One of the most unique things about it is its a different story with a different protagonist each time while still having a lore and continuity. This makes it impossible to judge based on a single or even multiple seasons the best parts are 7,8,2, and 4. one of the coolest things about JoJo is everyone who's a fan likes different parts one person could love part 5 and hate part 6 while another person could have the opposite opinion everybody loves part 7 though. all in all there's no other anime like this one it actually tends to appeal more to non anime fans due to its western feel. If you have not given Jojo's Bizzare Adventure a try yet you are truly missing out on the purpose of life itself. I wish I could type more but the newest chapter came out so I need to leave. Bye. Watch Jojos.

~~~**This review contains spoilers for Parts 1 and 2 of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure** ~~~ **You were expecting a concise review, but it was me, Pockeyramune919!** img520(https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/phantom_blood_characters.png) *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* is an anime that needs no introduction. Or, at least, it certainly *feels* that way, for me. It might not be as ubiquitous as *Naruto*, *Dragon Ball*, *Attack on Titan,* *Fullmetal Alchemist,* or *My Hero Academia*, but *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* certainly has a presence. If you find yourself in an anime space, chances are you've heard of it even if you didn't watch it nor *plan* on watching it. A lot of this can be attributed to its fanbase. It has an easily verifiable reputation for being..."loud," for lack of a better term. JoJo fans are very enthusiastic about the show, to the point where *JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure* can be nigh-inescapable. Without having so much as seen an episode, you'll probably know who [Dio ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaGkk60kcjQ)is, you might know who [Angelo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M_7chfjC8kY)is, you might know who [Smokey](https://youtu.be/W4rG1bYJnUM?t=36) is, and you'll probably know who [Jotaro ](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/52/28/b4/5228b4af66b01ab2e51c46c3937af4c2.png)is even if not by name. ["Is that a JoJo reference"](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/is-this-a-jojo-reference) is an ironic and unironic meme. The YouTube comments for songs such as "Roundabout" will no doubt be peppered with people who know the song not for being a 1971 prog rock classic by British rock band Yes, but instead as the ending theme for the 2012 Japanese animated television show, *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure*. Roundabout itself became a [Vine meme](https://knowyourmeme.com/memes/yes-roundabout-to-be-continued). JoJo fans may be among the biggest anime hype men you'll encounter, catapulting the series into [public consciousness echelons] it couldn't reach through its popularity. This isn't to say that JJBA *isn't* popular, — after all, no matter how passionate you are about something, if it's just you talking about it, your voice will be drowned out — it's just that I'm pretty sure it's not as popular as your awareness of it would lead you to believe. Naturally, the zealousness of the fandom has led many to be turned off from the show because they find its fans obnoxious. I personally can't really fault people for being passionate about something as long as they're not toxic. And fortunately, from what I can tell, JoJo fans aren't particularly toxic. img520(https://jojocomparisons.github.io/images/PB08/tv-06617-1090px.jpg) And that's not even getting into the series' popularity in its home country. From what I can gather, JoJo’s pretty big in Japan. While it still might have not been "huge," it was consistently a popular series. Before the anime series that we know today, *JJBA* received two OVAs, a movie, and several video games. Besides the manga being well-liked in-and-of-itself (*Stardust Crusaders* in particular), it also commanded respect and attention for being a long-running franchise that introduced or codified several shonen tropes. It may come as a surprise to some that *JJBA* made its debut in *1987*, appearing at the tail-end of *Fist of the North Star*'s manga run. Furthermore, this makes it contemporaries with manga such as *Saint Seiya* and *Dragon Ball.* There's no definitive reason for why it took so long to get a proper anime adaption. Some believe that the animation is so complex that the technology to replicate the art and action faithfully yet economically wouldn't appear until the New Tens. Others cite an interview where Araki says he didn't want kids watching JoJo, necessitating a TV adaption to be held off until the wide-proliferation of evening-to-late-night anime slots in the mid-noughties. The OVAs for Part 3 and the movie for Part 1 were critically and/or commercially lackluster, disincentivizing studios from putting the time and money into making a full-blown anime for the series. Another reason, still, is that I could just be vastly overestimating how popular *JJBA* is in Japan and that it was never *quite* popular enough that execs felt that adapting it would be a sure-fire way to print money. Either way, the anime adaptation we know today was announced to coincide with the series' twenty-fifth anniversary, along with a game for the PS3. The hype was apparently drummed up enough support for the show to be a success (though the lovingly faithful direction certainly helped) and the rest, as they say, is history. Me deciding to watch *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* feels like a long-time coming. *JoJo* has been a show that's been on my radar for a while now. I recall going to karaoke with a a group of acquaintances and listening to them sing Bloody Stream, the second opening to *JJBA*. I remember watching a compilation of Vine Roundabout memes. My freshman roommate showed me clips of Jotaro and his Stand's [ridiculous rapid fire punches](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OzHE5q1NGa4) (and he *might* have also shown me the clip of Joseph Joestar [pumping the diner full of lead](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtBds7PbLBo)) I was introduced to "Last Train Home" and Roundabout in full because of that same roommate. I'll often reference JoJo memes and use them as reactions when I'm with friends. It felt like I was partially a JoJo fan. And I wasn't exactly on the fence about watching it: it seemed like a show that I'd like well enough. In fact, it was a show I expected to have a lot of fun with. Since my buddy had good things to say about it, I planned on getting around to it *eventually*. By the time I decided I wanted to watch *JJBA*, there were already one-hundred-fifty-two episodes and five seasons. I found myself a bit daunted. But early last month, an anime adaption of JoJo's sixth part, *Stone Ocean*, [was announced](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PCd9yKLXSVQ) and I thought it was the perfect time to finally jump aboard the JoJo train, length be damned. If I can keep up with an anime series long as *Gundam*, I can watch anything-not-named-*Legend of the Galactic Heroes*. And what's the end result? Does it live up to the hype? Or did years and years of exposure ultimately lead to me building it up in my mind, leading to disapp— It's the former, unquestionably. The show met my expectations with its humor, its style, its musical references, and adrenaline-pumping action. While the second part is stronger than the first, I had a lot of fun with this season as a whole and I'm excited to continue my journey with the Joestars. I've heard that some will suggest that new fans skip this season. As someone who's a new fan himself and as someone who acknowledges a lot of my passing knowledge of *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* comes from *Stardust Crusaders* and beyond, I want to say how much I vehemently disagree with the idea that this season should be skipped. I had a good time watching it and even if it's not "peak" JoJo (whatever that may be; I'm a new fan after all), you'll still probably enjoy yourself and if the later parts are better, then you'll just enjoy them all the more. img520(https://media1.tenor.com/images/4ca5608f39c274a4db0faecb8e451bd5/tenor.gif?itemid=14869868) The arcs of *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* are separated into "parts" each following a different member of the Joestar line (kind of). The first season of *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* contains both Part 1, *Phantom Blood* and Part 2, *Battle Tendency*. *Phantom Blood* follows Jonathan Joestar, the heir to the illustrious Joestar family in Britain. His life begins falling apart when his father adopts the son of an acquaintance. Said son is Dio Brando; a young man who appears virtuous when JoJo's father is around, but in truth, he is manipulative, petty, and vindictive. Dio begins to relentlessly bully JoJo as soon as he meets him. As the two grow older, their lives are changed when Dio begins taking interest in a mysterious, eerie mask kept in the Joestar manor. Part 2 picks up forty-nine years after Part 1, following Jonathan's grandson, Joseph Joestar as he finds himself embroiled in a battle against supernatural beings. Joining Caesar Zeppeli, a descendent of his grandfather's teacher, he must master the secret technique of hamon to save the world from the dastardly, handsome Pillar Men. I'll begin by addressing points that encompass both Parts 1 and 2. Fortunately, the common ground between the two parts ends up being positive. img520(https://media.comicbook.com/2020/06/jojo-s-bizarre-adventure-caesar-cosplay-1223224-1280x0.jpeg) One of the first things you'll notice about *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* is that it's absolutely both dripping in charm and style. This is may sound vague, trust me, it's there and it helps to make *JJBA* one of the most distinctive anime I have had the pleasure of watching. This charm and style manifest in something simple, yet deceptively vital to any work involving characters, something that you probably don't stop to think about all too often: the character names. The main character of Part 1 is Jonathan Joestar, which Araki chose in part because he wanted the main character to have alliterative initials, which are naturally striking. "JoJo" as a nickname is quite simple, yet extremely striking, punchy, and fun to say, which fits this series nicely. Dio's name (in addition sharing his name with the [band](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dio_(band)) and the Italian word for God) was chosen because it compliments "JoJo"; it's essentially just as striking. This isn't to say all names are chosen because they're cool — others were just chosen due to something Araki loved: music. The musical references brought silly little smiles to my face, especially if they were bands I recognized. To wit, there's [Esidisi](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AC/DC), [Lisa Lisa](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisa_Lisa_and_Cult_Jam), [Wammu](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wham!), [Kars](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Cars), [Zepelli](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Led_Zeppelin), [Speedwagon](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/REO_Speedwagon), [Dire and Straizo](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dire_Straits), and [Smokey](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smokey_Robinson). It's amazing that something that really doesn't play a role in the show itself can still play a big part of my enjoyment of it. It helps make the show charming, it gives it an identity that I can't help loving. The show wears its stunning and striking style on its sleeve via its visual-audio design. Scenes will suddenly take on bright colors to highlight the action and enhance the mood, panels will crowd the screen. Onomatopoeia of sound effects will fill the screen and *JJBA* makes absolutely liberal use of closeups and dramatic pauses. This is one of the most sound-effect-heavy shows I've watched and you're honestly missing out if you opt to just read the subtitles. All these design choices aid in making it feel like you've picked up not an original, visual work but the adaptation of a manga. img520(https://thumbs.gfycat.com/ColorlessFinishedBlacklab-size_restricted.gif) The voice acting isn't a slouch, either. It's one of the most fun aspects of the show because the voice actors themselves sound like they're having a blast. Dio is the role that was *made* for Takehito Koyasu, which isn't something that I say lightly [since](https://anilist.co/anime/95/-Gundam) [the](https://anilist.co/anime/93/Mobile-Suit-Gundam-Seed/) [man's](https://anilist.co/review/7271) [in](https://anilist.co/anime/16498/Attack-on-Titan/) [goddamn](https://anilist.co/anime/119675/SHAMAN-KING-2021/) [everything](https://anilist.co/anime/1397/Macross-7). He does a really good job injecting personality into the character. We logically shouldn't feel much but contempt for Dio, but with every "[muda, muda, muda](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FYuQkR0J0iM),," "[it was me, Dio](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HaGkk60kcjQ)," "[uriii](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uVUVLvHcwF0)," "[okay, okay,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZoCimeUW54)" or "[goodbye, JoJo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gsxXvKnuZ7s)" it's not hard to crack a smile. He's the type of villain you love to hate and while you tell yourself you wish he'd just stay dead, a part of you admits you miss him when he goes. While Dio's definitely the highlight, most characters pull their weight in terms of being bombastic presences. Speedwagon's voice actor, Youji Ueda is really good at hamming it up and Joseph Joestar's cocky personality is portrayed excellently. As a diehard dub defender, *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* is one of the few anime I made a point to watch subbed, as a lot of the effect of comedic English one liners is lost, some musical references are taken out, and I hear that, moreso than most anime, the dub doesn't do it justice. img520(https://static0.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/JoJo-Phantom-Blood-Vampire-DIO.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=740&h=370&dpr=1.5) This style might make it hard to get immersed, to believe it in the way you would another anime, but not every anime needs to be realistic, needs to be believed. I appreciate *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* for deciding to buck against the notions that visual media shouldn't draw attention to itself and that adaptations shouldn't draw attention to the original. *JoJo*'s distinct style makes every episode exciting. I still ended up getting hype during some of the more lull Part 1 episodes due to how striking and energizing the show is. It's kind of hard to be bored when the audio-visual design is doing jumping jacks and the announcer is hyping up the entire thing with the zeal of a wrestling match. This hype and excitement is also generated by the wonderfully brisk pace of the show. Watching *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* never feels like a slog, as the show never drags its feet, always knowing how to keep things moving. That said, *JJBA* isn't afraid to use fights that last for multiple episodes. In doing so, it creates uncertainty, and thus, tension. The "to be continued" marker before the ED is often pretty general, but sometimes it's used to create bonafide cliffhangers which entice me to watch the next episode. JoJo left me at the edge of my seat, always wanting for more Just going from the meme, and the way people often talk about the show, it's easy to assume that this will just be a fairly goofy show that's practically allergic to genuine emotion. While I wasn't quite as flippant, I must admit that I expected the show to be extremely light throughout, but no. While the show never dips into grimdark territory, I was surprised to find that *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* knows how to be serious. *JJBA* can get downright sad at times and I found myself pleasantly surprised. Character deaths are handed out like candy and those who survive often mourn them. It's a very basic thing to praise, but it's pretty remarkable that *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* can be as fun as it is while still having a bit of gravitas. As of now, I wouldn't call JJBA anywhere approaching "deep," but it *can* be emotional and start to feel downright tragic at times. Now with the general praises out of the way, it's time to dig into the individual parts. img520(https://thumbs.gfycat.com/AnxiousPresentChick-mobile.jpg) One of the first things that I noticed about *Phantom Blood* was that it *feels* like a 1980s action anime. This wasn't a criticism (at least not initially), in fact, I thought it was extremely cool and retro. It was fun seeing a *Fist of the North Star*-esque property in 2012. The show really doesn't take a long time to get started and it does a good job of establishing its characters, why we should care about them, and who we should root for. That said, Part 1 isn't that much to write home about. Sure, you *can* write home about it, but you probably won't be able to fill the entire page front and back. Its pace is fast, dare I say, a bit too fast. The events of Part 1 take up a measly nine episodes compared to Part 2's seventeen. We move a tad too fast for me to get too attached to anything, and there are distinct moments when I felt that things were adapted out, but no, from what I can tell, this is a pretty faithful adaptation. While the brevity is great in that it ensures that nothing overstays its welcome, its drawback is that the things that come leave so quickly that you'll be wondering why they showed up in the first place. It also doesn't help that Jonathan Joestar is kind of a boring protagonist. It was apparently marvel at the time to have a main character that lost a lot at the beginning, but nowadays, it doesn't feel like he brings anything noteworthy to the table and he just feels like a nothingburger character. It's not even so much that he's too pure of a hero, moreso that we don't see this shown in a meaningful way. It would have been interesting for him to have more unscrupulous allies to bounce off of, but as is, I generally struggled to care about Jonathan as a person. Still, though, Part 1 isn't bad. At nine episodes, it would really have to *try* to be bad, and thankfully it doesn't. It did enough to leave me entertained, its highlights being Dio and its ending. I was really shocked to see Jonathan killed off. In that moment, I really did feel for the guy, since his selflessness *finally* clicked and it sunk in just how tragic of a life he had. img520(https://hinodereviews.files.wordpress.com/2016/12/bloodphantom.jpg?w=820&h=312&crop=1) Part 1 probably just looks so weak because it's stacked up against Part 2 which is a vast improvement. Joseph Joestar is thankfully much more of a fun character than his grandfather. He's a ridiculous force of personality rivaling Dio and I loved the dynamic between him and his rival, Caesar. Unlike Jonathan, he also got notable development even if it wasn't the *most* tracked. The likes of Jotaro and Josuke are going to need to bring their A+ game if they hope to get my vote for my favorite JoJo. More episodes allows Part 2 to breathe in a way that Part 1 didn't while still feeling tense. The fights are even more elaborate than before, the Pillar Men more menacing than Dio. The story's more epic in scale, with the characters trotting the globe instead of being relegated to England. It's a bit of a nebulous thing to point out, but the show feels more urgent than before. All in all, Part 2 expands what made me love the first part of JoJo. Its certainly not perfect; Lisa Lisa is painfully underutilized and amounts to being a damsel in distress, the final fight with Kars is resolved in kind of a dumb way since he was made too powerful, among other things. But in general, I really liked *Battle Tendency*. img520(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/XUhVCoTsBaM/maxresdefault.jpg) Me not giving this a higher score ultimately is less because *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* did something wrong and more because it didn't do anything exceptional. Don't get me wrong, *JoJo's Bizarre Adventure* is a good show, great even. That said, while it impressed me, it never really made my jaw drop. And that's fine; this is the first season of a long-running series, after all. I'm sure things will get even better, but for now, it's just "pretty good" instead of "amazing." And that's good enough for me to continue this series. While Part 1 might have its problems, I don't think it should be skipped. I had a lot of fun with both parts and I suspect some emotional weight from future parts might be lost if you skip these — if nothing else, consider these parts essential for your investment in Joseph and Dio. But, again, this is a good show in-and-of-itself and I can't wait to see what the future seasons have in store for the Joestar lineage. ~~~img200(https://i.imgur.com/xkgl8UN.png)~~~ img520(https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jojosbizarreadventurebattletendencycharacters_9.jpg)
I am going to split this review into two segments: the first will be for _Phantom Blood_ (Episodes 1 - 9) and the second will be for _Battle Tendency_ (Episodes 10 - 26). “A true gentleman needs to be brave enough to go into a fight he knows he’ll lose. But one day… I’ll be strong enough to win,” - Jonathan Joestar, Episode 1 It wouldn’t be much of a stretch to say that _Phantom Blood_ is the weakest part of _JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures_. It definitely isn’t a bad adaptation with the art style and characters being engaging and encapsulating the tone of the series as a whole, but rewatching the series has made me realise just how much of an odd beginning it is. It does everything that it should. It lays the foundations for the rest of the series, establishing key characters and recurring themes. The voice acting is great and the character designs are interesting. But it can feel strange to watch. It doesn’t quite feel like the rest of the _JJBA_ series, but it works well enough as an introduction. The core plot is mostly a standard rivalry and, while it has a couple of moments that challenge expectations along with a healthy sprinkling of violence, it sometimes feels more like reading a Victorian “coming-of-age” novel. This fits the general setting, but the pacing can make it feel like _Phantom Blood_ is dragging its feet at times. It does, however, set up the main fighting mechanics well and leaves space for them to be expanded upon in the later series. The animation style works well, replicating Araki’s unique style without sacrificing the animation's clarity. This lends itself to the tone and makes for some striking visuals; especially in _Phantom Blood_’s darker moments. The characters also work well with the themes that are explored and the rivalry between Jonathan and Dio is definitely the stand-out relationship of the series, but this can leave the other characters feeling a little bit underdeveloped. I think that if _Phantom Blood_ had different pacing or a larger cast, then the following installments would have landed as well as they did. It often feels that _Phantom Blood_ acts more like a set-up for the future rather than acting as its own, independent story. It is enjoyable but doesn’t it reach the heights that the later installments do; which is a shame. ~ “I have one last trump card … To hotfoot it out of here!” - Joseph Joestar, Episode 11 The shift in generations, setting, and tone work really well following the setup of _Phantom Blood_. It allows the former to retain what made it enjoyable without losing the more poignant moments. _Battle Tendency_ introduces more interesting and likable characters while using those who the audience is already familiar with as a guide. The villains are also interesting, adding a new level of danger while not overlapping too much with Dio’s character. _Battle Tendency_ is allowed to exist as its own part without casting away its predecessor. This movement between parts allows the audience to get used to the shifting between generations that comes to partially define _JJBA_ as a series. Having Joseph exist as such a stark contrast to Jonathan, Araki highlights how different the two parts are tonally and ensures that the audience knows what to expect from its plot. The pacing starts to hit its stride a little late on in _Battle Tendency_ and, while the earlier episodes are definitely enjoyable, they can feel like they are meandering. However, when it hits its stride, _Battle Tendency_ really shines. I think that this is because the characters in _Battle Tendency_ feel more developed and have engaging interactions with each other. Increasing the number of characters also means that there is more variation in the plot; moving away from the chivalry element that clouded _Phantom Blood_. Increasing the number of developed antagonists also works in _Battle Tendency_’s favour as the fights become more engaging and utilise different mechanics which adds some much-needed variation. This makes _Battle Tendency_ a strong addition to the _JJBA_ series and it is definitely a necessary addition to the first series as a whole. Without it bolstering _Phantom Blood_ then this series would have risked being a bit too tame and not as representative of the series as a whole. Pairing these two together into one series was definitely a good decision. ~ Overall _Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures_ works well enough as an opening to the series and is enjoyable to watch, but people tend to go in expecting it to more closely resemble the later series which can lead to disappointment. I think it is mostly the prominence of _JoJo’s Bizarre Adventures_ that works against _Phantom Blood_ and does harm _Battle Tendency_ a little as well. A newer audience might begin them expecting something else, or may decide to skip them entirely. However, that shouldn’t tarnish this series which has a strong story, engaging characters, and a little sprinkling of bizarreness to carry it through.
__Background / My personal experience with JoJo __ I've been familiar with JoJo for some time now. In 2015/2016 I was not much into anime, but this show was so incredibly popular that it drew my attention. Said that, I didn't want to watch it, but a friend of mine convinced me to do so in early 2017. At first it was an odd experience. Just like everyone else, I was surprised by the more bizarre and unusual aspects of the show, but overall, I didn't like it a lot. I came close to dropping it, but watched the whole thing as my previously mentioned friend insisted for me to do so. I recently rewatched the whole thing a came to a more mature and thoughtful opinion of the first 2 parts. Though I still don't consider it to be an excellent anime, I have to say that I liked it more this time around. This review __contain spoilers__ and it's mainly intended for people who've already watched the show. # Part 1 - Phantom Blood ~~~img220(https://ewscripps.brightspotcdn.com/dims4/default/13d048d/2147483647/strip/true/crop/1200x675+0+0/resize/1280x720!/quality/90/?url=http%3A%2F%2Fewscripps-brightspot.s3.amazonaws.com%2F23%2F4b%2F4e6f6e134d10b8ffec21b42ba972%2Fezuc-geumaewwel.jpg)~~~ Phantom Blood is easily of one the Jojo parts that I disliked the most. The show starts with a basic introduction of the characters and the world that the whole series take place in. It introduces things that would become staples throughout the franchise: Jojo being the main protagonist, Dio Brando, Hamon, the stone masks, vampires, the Zeppeli family and Speedwagon (Foundation). ~~~Story - Part 1 ~~~ All the aspects are pretty basic, and that's because of the time period that the manga it was written in (1987–1988). There's a lot of clichés and not a lot of innovations. It starts slow, with the introduction of the hero Jonathan Joestar, the generic nice guy, and Dio Brando, the nefarious villain. Jonathan is good and Dio is bad, that's the basis of the whole story. The middle pack of episodes are average to say the least. There aren't any particularly good fights, the standout being the Bruford/Tarkus sequence. Dio becoming a vampire is something that enables Jonathan to get a power as well. The Hamon is nothing innovative but serves its purpose of being the ideal counter to vampiric powers. I just get a little bothered with the fact that Jonathan becomes a master of Hamon in like half an episode. The end is just as everyone watching expects, with Jonathan, the good, guy defeating Dio, the bad guy, in a really boring fight and stopping his villainous plans to dominate the world. We thankfully get U-turn in the last episode, with Dio showing up in the epilogue and managing to beat Jonathan and stealing his body, but ending up inside a coffin in a sinking ship stranded in the middle of the ocean. ~~~Characters - Part 1 ~~~ img220(https://s.aficionados.com.br/imagens/jojo-s-bizarre-adventure-phantom-blood_cke.jpg) There are not a lot of good or memorable characters in this part. Speedwagon and Bruford are the ones I liked the most. Jonathan, the protagonist, is a beacon of goodness and is the purest and most righteous guy in the earth. I don't like him, but I can understand him being made like that, because Dio, the antagonist, is the incarnation of evil and has no other motivation aside from just being evil. There's a clear dichotomy and the anime just goes from there with little to no character development. Zeppeli is the one I feel like had the most potential but lacks a good motivation and seems like is there to just be a stepping stone for the protagonist. # Visuals and Design img220(https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/54fc8146e4b02a22841f4df7/1571957877143-O70ETPJPAB0HASY9FJIJ/cover%2B100.jpg?format=1000w) This is the section that surprised the most. I absolutely love the visuals of this season (both parts 1 and 2). The show looks gorgeous and is pretty well animated, all the fighting scenes looks very good and considering that the source material is not that good and it's kinda dated, so we can see that the studio (David Production) did a magnificent job. # Part 2 - Battle Tendency ~~~img220(https://www.cafemaisgeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/Battle-Tendency-Poster.jpg)~~~ Battle Tendency contrasts a with Phantom Blood in a lot of ways. I like it a because didn't fell in the same clichés as part 1. The protagonist is a hotheaded, impulsive and overall unethical guy, the perfect kind to be the hero of the story. The main villains are also not plain evil, as they are just following their nature. The second part extends a lot of things there were brought up in the first part and introduces a thrilling and exciting conflict. ~~~Story - Part 2 ~~~ The story itself is the main step-up if compared to the 1st part. The protagonist, Joseph Joestar, is not in a righteous crusade against evil, he just ends up wrapped in a conflict he had nothing to do with: the resurgence of the Pillar Men. There are more episodes in this part, and because of that I will not dive too far into the story, but the overall feeling for me is that everything is more fleshed out, the characters, their motivations, the elements of the world and the narrative in a general aspect. We have a whole arc of Joseph maturing and learning Hamon through sheer effort and hard work. Some really good fights against Santana, Esidisi and Wammu and some funny and quirky moments. Because of the longer duration, the villains are shown having complex backgrounds and motivations that justify the majority of their acts. The finale is actually pretty clever and entertaining, but nothing special, with Joseph defeating the ultimate life form with the use of constant trickery and fishy tactics. img220(https://static.anime21.blog.br/2017/06/00.jpg) ~~~Characters - Part 2 ~~~ I really love Joseph as a protagonist, we get to see some astute techniques, mostly in combat but not limited to it, that resembles very well his personality, and being explosive and stubborn, makes him a really believable and relatable protagonist that doesn't fall too much on that cliché of the protagonist being the most virtuous person alive. Caesar contrasts a lot with Joseph, in a very good way, as he is a perfectionist and honorable gentleman. At the same time, he is an idealist motivated by the fate of his ancestors and will never give up on his duty. Lisa Lisa, Stroheim and Straizo are also very likeable characters, and the Pillar Men are good in their own way. Kars who serves as the main antagonist is okay for the most part, as he is just following his natural path of entropic evolution, and that means fighting Joseph and his allies in order to get the Red Stone of Aja and become the ultimate life form. # Conclusion It's easy for me to just say that Phantom Blood is mediocre and Battle Tendency is good, but there is a bit more than that. I have an emotional attachment to the first part and I do think it has some positive things. Unfortunately, the clichés are a hugely present, and even if it had the same length as part 2, I don't think it would be as good. Phantom Blood is, as I stated earlier, one of my favorite parts and an overall good anime, which has some flaws but it's very entertaining. In the end, watching Jojo is a great experience, the show is really unique in some aspects and has some good things that cannot be discounted even if I don't particularly like its beginning. img220(https://hacchifansub.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/btpb.jpg) # Scores: Part 1 - 4,5 /// Part 2 - 7,5
~~~Review contains spoilers (Part 1 + 2) I will be reviewing each part separately then giving my verdict combined. First time writing a review so expect any in-experienced writings. I just wanted to share my feeling of this anime in the form of a review. For the lazy readers, there will be a summary (verdict) at the end of each part review.~~~ --- __Part 1: Phantom Blood__ Who knew The Bizarre Adventure of JoJo would begin due to a carriage accident in 1868. The first part of JoJo begins with introduction of Jonathan Joestar (JoJo) and Dio Brando, who _throws away his humanity_ with the use of the _bizarre_ Stone Mask turning him into a vampire with vengeance to conquer _The World_ as JoJo tries to stop him. __Characters:__ Since it takes place in England, the characters are heavily influenced by English culture (duh). The cast, aside from the main cast, expands upon George Joestar, Anthonio Zeppeli, Erina Pendelton, etc and ofcourse, Speedwagon who managed to win everyone's hearts. ~~~img400(https://media.comicbook.com/2020/09/jojo-s-bizarre-adventure-phantom-blood-1237139-1280x0.jpeg)~~~ Overall the cast is just fine, they are nothing too special, just buff men on their way to fight a bisexual vampire. Jonathan and Speedwagon are probably the most memorable (since one is the first JoJo and other is A tier waifu) but other than that, the cast is fine. __Story:__ The story is a tale of 2 brothers, one bound by evil, other bound by justice who must save _The World_ from getting into the grasp of the vampire Dio. ~~~img400(https://i.kym-cdn.com/entries/icons/facebook/000/031/357/maxresdefault_(1).jpg)~~~ The story is good, however filled with many plotholes __(HOW THE HECK DID DIO SURVIVE FROM DEATH SO MANY TIMES IT MAKES NO SENSE)__. It gives us a good overview on the characters and theme, there were also many good ideas like Hamon (which I personally enjoyed a lot). Watching a person fight with Hamon was something I felt was unique. However, it just wasn't enough, the part just didn't manage to reach its full potential. I will admit, I enjoyed Phantom Blood, however, it didn't have that potential which makes you go "Yes! It was so fun and amazing to watch, I want more right now, I need to know what happens next aaaa". __Verdict:__ Decent Part with excellent ideas not executed to its full potential. Good beginning to the Bizarre Adventures of Joestar bloodline. __Score:__ 6.5/10 --- __Part 2: Battle Tendency__ Oh boy, sit back 'cuz you are in for a ride. Battle Tendency, the best JoJo part (in my opinion). Taking place 50 years later in America/Italy with Joseph Joestar, the main lead, having to defeat 4 half naked aztec gods. __Characters:__ This part has some of the best characters, including my favourite JoJo (Joseph), Ceasar, Lisa Lisa, Stroheim and many more (and ofcourse Speedwagon-kun). These are some of the most lively characters ever met, each showing diverse and like-able characteristics. ~~~img400(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EIqsrPoXkAAkYYR.jpg)~~~ __Story:__ The story feels so fresh and unique. Centuries old half-naked pillar men, gaining immortality and becoming the ultimate life form to rule over humans? Heck yeah! Hamon is used so much wider in this part showing true potential of what can be achieved with Hamon. Everything in this part is just amazing. Fight scenes are more unique and interesting. The OST used is just perfect. The part gets truly bizarre making it the masterpiece it is. ~~~img400(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/DywpDwfaJ7M/mqdefault.jpg)~~~ Now ofcourse, there are plot holes in this part (let's be real, is it even JJBA if there aren't any?) but the story makes up for it so well that they are forgivable. The story doesn't get too tensed and one sided focused and mixes up the atmosphere once in a while making it feel like a breeze of fresh air. There is perfect amount of comedic pressure mixed with serious atmosphere. The villain fights are as special as the show, showing various varieties in each of the fights. The supporting cast fulfills their job well being good importance in the plot. Overall, excellent story. ~~~img230(https://i.imgur.com/FWcfziM.jpeg) img230(https://i.imgur.com/6v0Je8I.jpeg)~~~ __Verdict:__ An Excellent JoJo Part reaching the true potential what Part 1 could have been. Perhaps an underrated part, however, personally my favourite part. __Score:__ 9.5/10 --- Overall, if I were to rate the entire season, both parts together, I would combine both P1 and P2 rating, thus, reaching at an 83. Not too much low, not too much high, perfectly balanced as all things should be.

~~~__Jojo's Bizarre Adventure's ~~~__ Essa review eu planejo escrever ela de um jeito um pouco diferente já que essa primeira adaptação de Jojo engloba a Parte 1 e a 2° parte da história em uma adaptação só, então eu vou dividir a review em duas partes. ~~~youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA4eesTbNKE&ab_channel=JUndeadhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rA4eesTbNKE&ab_channel=JUndead) ~~~ Toma algumas músicas de jojo para não ficar tão maçante, e a review irá ter spoilers, então eu recomendo ter assistido ao anime antes de ler esta review ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __~~~Jojo's Bizzare Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood~~~__ ~~~img220(https://64.media.tumblr.com/344ac1044b6e4063981516e8fbbdbf48/74763e14db441478-68/s500x750/36b080ade8f4274e5c829e5f7895d9ac28ea7eb3.gifv) ~~~ Eu vou ser sincero aqui e eu lembro na época em que a internet foi bombadeada por vários memes de Jojo, principalmente a música tema do Giorgio. Por conta desse hype na época eu me interessei em assistir a série e eu vou confessar, eu me decepcionei. Eu fui assistir jojo com as expectativas erradas, e isso talvez seja um dos maiores erros que eu pude cometer ( não só eu mas muita gente que eu conheço também fez isso) que foi assistir com uma expectativa errada. Essa adaptação diferente dos OVAs de 1993, abraça a galhofice e o ridículo. O próprio anime não se leva a sério, e esse talvez seja o maior trunfo dele. Essa adaptação foi feita apenas para divertir, não para ser uma obra de arte ou uma história profunda e filosófica. É simples, básico, mas divertido. Só pela história ser simples, não significa que ela seja necessariamente, e no caso de Jojo, cumpre bem a proposta, ser uma diversão rápida. ~~~img220(https://itadakimasuanimes.files.wordpress.com/2018/09/kono-dio-da-gif-2.gif?w=500) ~~~ Indo para os personagens, é interessante como Araki toma um tempo para desenvolver o antagonista da história, tanto que na primeira metade, o protagonista da história é praticamente Dio. Ele que faz a história mover, Jonathan apenas reage as ações de Dio, na primeira metade, Jonathan é basicamente um personagem suporte, que apenas reage as consequências causadas por Dio. E é um pouco ousado da parte do Araki de justamente ter feito essa primeira parte ter a jornada do herói de Dio, Dio tem suas ambições e sonhos, e mesmo que ele tenha que fazer atrocidades, ele tentará lutar para ter o que quer. E explicando o passado e pensamentos do antagonista faz com que nós amamos odiar esse personagem, Dio é carismático, e apesar dele ser a pior pessoa na terra, sempre que ele aparece em tela, todo mundo fica com um sorrisinho por conta de seu carisma. Já Jonathan realmente vira o protagonista da história a partir do 2° ato para frente da história. No começo ele apenas reagia a jornada do herói de Dio, e agora com a jornada do herói de Dio concluída, é a vez de Jonathan ter a sua própria jornada, e ela é começada com a morte de seu pai e a transformação de Dio em um vampiro. Muitas pessoas acham Jonathan Joestar um personagem vazio e irritante, e apesar dessas criticas serem compreensíveis, eu não o acho um personagem ruim. Apesar de consideravelmente fraco comparado aos protagonistas seguintes da franquia, ele é um personagem de extrema importância para o resto da história, por ser o primeiro Joestar, e principalmente ser o motivo de Joseph Joestar ser quem ele é, assim como é compreensível o seu cavalheirismo e sua questão de honra, pelo o contexto de sua época. ~~~img220(https://c.tenor.com/6hXHHU5TIRkAAAAd/jonathan-joestar-crying.gif)~~~ Porém os outros personagens não sofrem o mesmo tratamento que os dois principais da história tem, alguns personagens são esquecíveis, como aqueles monges que treinaram Zeppeli, eles não são carismáticos e são esquecíveis, até mesmo Straits ( que volta na 2° parte) é esquecível. Assim como Zeppeli só serve como ferramenta de plot, não temos tempo para nos apegar a ele pois rapidamente é retirado da história logo em seguida, causando uma sensação de gosto amargo na boca de "só isso que ele tinha a oferecer" Assim como Speedwagon, é a Wikipédia ambulante, esse personagem apenas serve para nos explicar o que está acontecendo na tela, porém não é intuitivo e interessante, é até ofensivo a explicação, subestima a inteligência dos espectadores, e muitas vezes não precisava explicar, são coisas simples explicadas, coisas que até uma criança de 8 anos vai saber dizer o que está acontecendo. E é completamente esquecido o chapéu desse personagem, Araki esqueceu completamente do chapéu com cerrote que Speedwagon usa, podia ter sido usado várias vezes em momentos chaves, mas foi esquecido completamente dessa habilidade. ~~~img220(https://c.tenor.com/WlsAoyagHq4AAAAd/speedwagon-reo.gif)~~~ Indo para a trilha sonora, a trilha sonora da primeira parte pelo menos não é uma das melhores, acho que apenas há que realmente se destaca seja a Opening, mas fora ela o restante é meio genérica e esquecivel, eu me lembro apenas de 2 ou 3 músicas talvez. ~~~youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NvontyBNC44&ab_channel=Sendo8313)~~~ A animação do anime é decente e a palheta de cores usadas, principalmente na hora das lutas realmente deixam a obra mais original e única, e deixando mais divertido de se ver por conta da leveza escolhida na palheta de cores, não é cansativo visualmente, é bonito e bem feito, mas isso é por conta da direção que é bem feita. Porém eu vou falar melhor da direção na parte 2, que é o auge dessa adaptação desse anime na minha opinião. Outro ponto bastante positivo na minha opinião é a dublagem, talvez a dublagem da parte 1 carregue esse parte nas costas, os dubladores realmente entregaram o que foi pedido e mais, muito mais, você realmente sente os personagens vivos apenas ouvindo as vozes dos dubladores, principalmente o dublador de Dio, voz icônica, sempre que Dio fala é uma música aos ouvidos, aliado com diálogos inteligentes e marcantes. Agora indo para as partes negativas que realmente me incomodaram foi a exposição muitas vezes desnecessária, eu sou da turma do mostre, mas não fale, porém em algumas situações é compreensível o uso de diálogos expositivos, é até necessário em algumas obras. Mas esse não é o caso de Jojo, é ofensivo essa explicação desnecessária muitas vezes, e isso talvez seja a maior parte da birra que grande parte das pessoas ( incluindo eu ) tem birra com a primeira parte de Jojo, não precisava muitas vezes, Phantom Blood não é muito diferente de uma novela mexicana de baixo orçamento, eu realmente não entendi o porque dessa explicação a cada 2 minutos. Outro fator negativo que eu achei foi não termos tido tempo o suficiente com Jonathan, não tivemos um desenvolvimento de personagem apropriado, não é palpável, não é digerível, com a sua morte acabamos não ligando, e por conta dessa falta de refinamento no personagem, ele acaba sendo ofuscado comparado aos outros personagens que virão mais pra frente, ele é ofuscado até mesmo pelo Dio. O final da parte 1 é ousado, pois araki resolveu matar o protagonista no final da sua história, e isso é até um pouco louvável e determina algo de que todos os futuros personagens também correm esse risco de sofrerem o mesmo destino de Jonathan, dando assim mais sensação de perigo dentro das lutas que acontecem entre os personagens, e isso é um dos maiores defeitos do gênero shounen no geral, de não matarem personagens importantes em lutas e afins, anulando qualquer sensação de perigo, pois sabemos que no final, o protagonista vai vencer. Isso porém, não é o caso de Jojo, aqui realmente personagens morrem e não volta (COF COF DIO) Na minha opinião Jojo Bizarre Adventure Part 1: Phantom Blood é algo que dá para se divertir, porém infelizmente os defeitos são maiores do que as qualidades, e isso acaba agredindo um pouco na diversão que as pessoas podem ter assistindo. Por conta disso para mim eu dou # 5/10 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- __~~~Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency ~~~__ ~~~img220(https://ptanime.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/JoJo-Bizarre-Adventure-2012-Anime-Analise-Img21.gif)~~~ A parte 2 de jojo comparado a Phantom Blood é infinitamente melhor, todas as qualidades que a primeira parte fez, aqui foi feito duas vezes melhor. A começar pelo protagonista, Joseph Joestar, que existe graças ao Jonathan Joestar. É interessante analisar os contrapontos que ambos os personagens tem, Jonathan é uma pessoa nobre, justa e bondosa, que sempre tenta ser bom até com o pior tipo de pessoa. Já Joseph não se importa muito com honra e justiça, ele apenas se importa com ele mesmo, e isso cria uma diferença gritante e empolgante para quem tá assistindo, pois o novo protagonista não é apenas uma réplica do protagonista anterior, e sim o contrário dele. Joseph é extremamente carismático e inteligente, ele já ganha nossa simpatia em poucos minutos sem precisar dizer muito, e o personagem é extremamente bem feito, aumentando ainda mais o apreço por ele, talvez Joseph seja o melhor Jojo que há. E dessa vez na história há também um personagem rival e amigo de Joseph, Caesar. Caesar é um ótimo balanço na história e sua relação junto com Joseph é bem construida e diferente de Zeppeli em sua morte, realmente sentimos, eu me emocionei com a sua morte, pois dessa vez realmente tivemos desenvolvimento de personagem e convivência com o tal. Assim como a dinâmica de tela entre Joseph e Caesar é bastante interessante e ver os dois lutando juntos é algo bem legal de ser assistir, você realmente sente a amizade entre os dois. ~~~img220(https://ptanime.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/JoJo-Bizarre-Adventure-2012-Anime-Analise-Img19.gif)~~~ Outro personagem interessante é a Lisa Lisa, é bom ter uma personagem feminina como uma das personagens principais, e é bem feito a imagem construído acima dela, dando a impressão de que ela realmente sabe o que está fazendo. Os vilões da parte 2 são interessantes, os "pillar men", porém eles não tem o carisma que Dio tem na parte 1, mas eles cumprem o papel de uma ameaça para os protagonistas da história. Speedwagon volta novamente e é o mesmo de sempre só que mais velho, então não tem muito o que comentar, assim como Erina. Uma coisa que eu acho interessante, não só nessa parte de Jojo, mas em todas, de que araki optou fazer o mundo na nossa realidade, com um mundo que nós já conhecemos, não é preciso desperdiçar tempo explicando e construindo a world building, os holofotes ficam apenas para os personagens da história assim dando uma melhor chance de se fazer personagens mais complexos e profundos. E é interessante como a direção de jojo optou fazer um duelo entre realidade e a galhofice, mudando a palheta de cores sempre na hora de luta e colocando as onomatopeias do mangá na tela. ~~~img220(https://ptanime.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/JoJo-Bizarre-Adventure-2012-Anime-Analise-Img9.gif)~~~ Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency é um grande exemplo de boa direção que sabe o que está fazendo e que sabe o potencial e defeitos da obra que está em mãos. É perceptível que a direção sabia das qualidades e defeitos da obra então decidiu tomar todo o cuidado na hora de adaptar e conseguiu com proeza pegar a voz própria do mangá e transportar para a tela da TV e dando uma voz única ao próprio anime. Tudo no anime na parte 2 está em harmonia, dublagem, trilha sonora, câmera, palheta de cores, lutas. A direção realmente soube o que fazer e fez com estilo e bem feito. E a trilha sonora da parte 2, é facilmente uma das melhores trilha sonora da história dos animes, facilmente, desde a Opening a até as musicas de créditos. ~~~youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KnmH7qQ0AVM&t=10s&ab_channel=%E2%84%B3aine)~~~ ~~~youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XUhVCoTsBaM&ab_channel=Hound313)~~~ ~~~youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XneukMwAGL8&ab_channel=TakuIwasaki-Topic)~~~ A dublagem na parte 2 novamente é incrível, os dubladores se entregaram para fazer a dublagem do anime, você sente os personagem vivo e sabe o que estão sentido apenas com as vozes. A história diferente da parte 1, é mais complexa e trabalhada, não é apenas preto no branco, mal contra o bem, desta vez há o cinza também. Assim como a história não é tão simples, há arcos de personagens sendo trabalhado ao mesmo tempo que o arco principal, já que na primeira parte era simplesmente Jonathan Vs Dio, aqui há várias subtramas que no final acabam se encaixando de uma maneira satisfatória e acaba sendo mais ambiciosa que a primeira parte por conta disso. Mas como tudo na vida, nem tudo é maravilha, a parte 2 há os seus defeitos, que nem tudo na vida, infelizmente. Um dos defeitos pra mim na minha opinião é os diálogos expositivos que ainda continuaram nessa parte, diminuíram um pouco, mas ainda está aqui. Outro defeito também é algumas coisas que são tiradas do nada, em alguns casos dá pra defender isso, como quando Joseph tira uma thompson do bolso. Já lá no clímax ele tira um avião do nada para fugir de Cars que eu achei um pouco forçado. Outra coisa que eu achei um pouco forçado foi o plot twist de Lisa Lisa ser a mãe de Jojo, não me agradou muito, achei forçadinho. Jojo's Bizarre Adventure Part 2: Battle Tendency é um ótimo exemplo de boa direção que sabe o que tem em suas mãos, se não fosse a direção a história podia ter ido por um caminho que não teria ficado bom. Por conta disso e de sua maestria de trilha sonora e lutas, eu dou um # 9/10 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Bom, acho que foi isso, se gostarem da review me sigam, se não concordam com algo que eu disse podem me mandar mensagem, é bom ouvir opiniões diferentes pra eu poder me tornar uma pessoa melhor. Eu dei 7,5 pro anime geral por conta da parte 1 e parte 2, então acho justo dar 7/10, se não fosse a parte 1 eu teria dado 9/10 para o anime, mas é, fazer o que, vou ter que aceitar isso aí. Até uma próxima review, Jojo! ~~~img220(https://c.tenor.com/B4RkLsQsYHkAAAAd/receipt-jotaro-kujo.gif)~~~
**Overview:** To get it out of the way, the show definitely lives up to the hype and German engineering. Every scene is dramatized by a wide margin. Oddly this suits the show perfect, the yelling and screaming when in fights to out of the fights they found a way to meld it together well and create a very enjoyable experience. Simply put everything is done over the top yet somehow works and flows together without a single non-hyped moment. Every episode will make you feel hyped. Jojo is split into 2 different sub arcs throughout its 26 episodes. First part being the mask arc and the second the masks creator. Both the parts follow different characters, but they are both related with a 50-year time gap between the first part and the second. In the first part we follow Jonathan Joestar and Dio. Dio… where did he go wrong, love and hate him quite a bit, that poor doggo and the opening of the second ep get me just thinking about it lol. The end of the ep 1 when you see the box, you know exactly what has happened. In the first part its just laying the ground down for what powers are going to be shown and a taste for what they can do. Its to get the people familiar with the verse, character powers and how outrageous things are going to become later. Second part we are following the life of Joseph Joestar, yup another Jojo. His arc is a few episodes longer then the other one but there are three villains instead of one and information that needs to be conveyed which is why. We learn about what the mask is intended for and who created it. There are old characters from the first part still around that have their roles even though its 50 years in the future along with new characters introduced. The hamon power introduced in the first part are expanded upon a bit more and shown more capabilities of what can be done with it. Each fight progressively got more intense with the first being a regular fight where you go alright this is good. Then the second happens and is starting to get to bruce willis and by the end of the third fight here we have a full on bruce willis out there kind of fight. Its great lol. Throw the German engineering and an airplane into the mix and you just sit there with a smile on your face laughing at times during even the most intense of scenes. **Visuals/Music:** The visuals are look very good with quite a distinctive style to it. Everything is more bolded and defined when it comes to characters making all the scenes stand out due to its uniqueness. Characters are all definitely natty no doubt about that, I mean just look at them muscles kek. No complaints about the visuals. All of the music was on par with the rest of the show where there are no complaints. Ending song to the openings even after them being memed to no end are still songs capable of being enjoyed each episode. Somehow with certain sound effects I generally hate where they do a mic rupture effect worked well. Due to the style of show this is it actually works when used unlike many others. In all honesty due to this being made in 2012 this might have been where the trend of it started. Others see the success of Jojo and try to copy it instead of sticking and finding out what works best for their specific case. **Final Thoughts:** I would highly recommend this to anybody wanting to sit back and not realize the entire day has passed while watching. From start to finish its flow and enjoyment doesn’t waver much. Somehow, they are even able to slip a full episode flashback story in the middle of the most important fight without it feeling abrupt or breaking the flow the show had going which says a lot about the way its executed. Very few have been able to pull that off successfully, lots of props on that end. Stroheim, oh man is he the true mvp, when he is first showed he has a certain feeling to him where you go I know how this is going to end and before you know it love the guy. All the characters introduced are memorable for one reason or another. If somebody were to say this is their favorite show or is on their list of favorites I could understand it completely, it’s a very fun time going through all the eps. For me I consider it very good, its not perfect and lacks the impact fullness for me to consider it a favorite of mine but wouldn’t hesitate to tell another to check it out. ```Overall Rating: 4/5```
#~~~JOJO'S BIZARRE ADVENTURE P1 + P2 FULL REVIEW ~~~ Joseph once said "Spaghetti al Nero di sepia looks bad, but it's a real treat." which is basically a fancy and a silly way to say 'never judge a book by it's cover.' As someone who kept hearing the word "JoJo" literally everywhere, with all the reference jokes, the goddamn memes and cool art style (I really think its cool) I was genuinely interested, and felt the need to check it out because for one thing i was curious about it because its _a fresh breath of air_ and the hype was insane. Can't say I was disappointed. So here's my opinion of it. But before we start, I want to address what I mean by it being _a fresh breath of air_: honestly I like how it doesn't follow the 'set of rules and patterns' almost every Shounen follows, it's unique. It has multiple parts with each having a different protagonist that's different than the previous, and the fact that the protagonists being consistent of one lineage/bloodline also gives a good vibe, as you can call it a curse. The concept is also new, with each part having a different antagonists and side characters with a whole new plot or a connected one but 100 years later. you can obviously tell after multiple shows that fall in the same genre that this one is a fresh breathe of air. alright since I made my point through, I want to conclude that this passage will contain the following topics that I'm going to analyze throughly. each part of the two parts individually. 1. __Plot__ 2. __Main character__ 3. __ Side Cast__ 4. __World Building__ 5. __Power System__ 6. __Animation and Soundtracks__ ---- __~~~PLOT~~~__ # __Part 1:__ ~~~img220(https://i.pinimg.com/564x/a5/02/3d/a5023d256e46d19aad8c5fef6b5e6e0a.jpg) ~~~the plot here is simple, really simple honestly, the story talks about Jonathan Joestar (Jojo) and Dio Brando who was adopted by George Joestar because of an old debut. once Dio moves in with the Joestars Jojo's life turns hell and nothing goes his way, and so a rivalry produces between the two 'brothers'. and more stuff go on and I want to keep this spoiler free as much as possible. other elements are involved but are lowkey undermined by the main plot, for example it does talk about the morality of humans and their diversity, chivalry, tragedy, consequences, jealousy and envy, how much hatred and neglect can affect others mentally and hence their actions, and bad parenting and upbringings and how much this affects the offsprings. thing is, this part contains a few plot holes that are too apparent to be ignored, for example Zeppelli, how did he know about Dio and that the mask was in the possession of the Joestars and that he should go to Jonathan exactly to defeat Dio? or how would he and his father find the stone mask to begin with, this might have been explained in the manga for all I know. but certainly these were missing from the story in the anime. ~!thats all ignoring the biggest plot hole out there, in the begging of part 3 some fishermen pulled out a coffin that had the name DIO engraved into it. how? from where he heck did that come from? didn't Erina use the one that was available to escape? okay, here's an update: a few of you guys did make it clear for me that there was a hidden compartment in there, I can't for the life of me remember if it was mentioned in the anime, but I'm positive it wasn't, thanks for the info either way.!~ and the message basically is: 1. don't be a shit dad. 2. be grateful to those who were good to you 3. dont be a greedy fuck. although part 1 was only 9 episodes, the plot is honestly barely 4.9/10 # __Part 2:__ ~~~img220(https://i.pinimg.com/736x/97/b6/29/97b629d5e5bc0e87b5e021691e3e5cca.jpg) ~~~alright, so looking at part 2, the plot also follows a simple pattern, but compared to part 1 its better crafted and somewhat more complex, with much less plot holes. the base of the plot goes back over 12,000 years, where the "pillar men" lived at a time, so basically part 2 talks about how these immortal pillar men came to continue their search of the Aja stone. and here comes our new Main Character Joseph - Jojo - to stop them. (no it wasn't a coincidence.) thats the surface of the story, but we can notice it also discusses other themes, it goes through ancient and modern civilizations, culture and society, waging wars, power and strength seeking, loyalty, morals, conquering, loneliness and its effects, seeking revenge for the sake of it, human bonding and not to mention betrayal and stumbling upon hardships. it also goes over basic thematic topics, such as: friendship, semi-adventure, camaraderie, developments and immense effort. the plot is still simple, but its perfect simplicity is what makes it good. 6/10. --- ~~~__MAIN CHARACTERS __~~~ # __Part 1:__ ~~~img470(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EJziBn2XsAE6jcn?format=jpg&name=large) ~~~Jonathan Joestar is as generic as a character can be. I like him though, but he misses the realism of being a person, he had almost no flaws, a man born with peak kindness, chivalry, good morals, natural great physical strength, is so quickly forgiving (glad he stayed cautious around Dio though) and strives to be a gentleman. perfect, right? and perfect characters are incomplete, nothing is perfect and everything has it's flaws. Jojo here was a nobility, lazing around as much as he pleases, living the perfect privileged life, care-freely with a loving parent. although upon Dio's arrival Jonathan was forced out of that life and thus he matured rather quickly. and with maturing, you can notice that he somewhat learned how to adapt, he learned that he cannot stay the same, that he needs to stand up for himself more and be stronger, that he cant let Dio get what he pleases, that he can be someone people can depend on, and thats definitely a character growth. he kept taking steps forward towards his goal of becoming a gentleman, dealing with the harshness of his those around him's temperament, and managed to overcome any type of struggle. Jonathan is the product of his childhood, circumstances and those surrounding him, given that the majority of his childhood was peaceful (Dio did clam down for a while) shaped him up to be the gentleman he aspired to be, a person able to distinguish the right from wrong, a person who's able grow while facing an obstacle instead of giving in. and not to mention he was never really alone as he had Erina while everybody else ignored him, she was an undeniably a great support. I tip my hat off for him, his mentality and will are really strong and truly admirable. I cant say much about Jonathan since he literally appeared in nine episodes, but he was most definitely the base for everything, the standpoint where the plot went on for generations. he's a solid 6/10. # __Part 2:__ img3220(https://64.media.tumblr.com/8290e9bbe534c457af780fb48c57d784/tumblr_nf8a93g2Aj1u3ip5xo1_1280.jpg) Joseph Joestar, the epic awesome dude with many good and bad qualities. look, Joseph is my favorite JoJo but I'll try not to be biased. He's arguably one of the really executed well -not best- and overall entertaining character I've come across. lets be real Joseph has all the qualities needed to be a great character, he's a pretty much a complex and a compelling character, a one full package: character depth, wits, brains, decent past, a great development and growth, relatability, overall entertaining with a great sense humor and is a top-tier strategist. He's also flawed: selfish, arrogant, stubborn, and is quite a pervert. Generally saying, Joseph is molded pretty well, his reckless actions and mindset, it all aligns with his tough upbringings -which was pretty much bittersweet- way of growing, his type of persona and origin really well. And I guess its quite known that a person is a byproduct of their surroundings and circumstances. First glance, Joseph might come off as a lucky buff delinquent young man, who likes to joke around and mess with people. But to be honest, I suppose his selfish exterior is justified since he grew up without parents and only had his granny and Speedwagon, his acquaintances were limited and he only cared for himself, Erina and Speedwagon and nobody else. but we see him grow out of this at later points of the series; such as sympathizing with Ceaser at the death of his friend. He starts to care for others and expands his vision further more. and thats on character development. [1] One thing that goes hard for him is his sense of humor, he wins his fights in the most laughable ways, he cheats, he tricks, all in all, he plays it smart to ensure his victory, the way doesn't matter. and thats what makes it fun, he's unpredictable and guessing what he will do next is fun but in general he comes up with a new idea each time. thats all more of a proof that he's one of a smartass. [arguably the smartest Jojo] [honestly, coming up with a Tommy Gun and grenades outta nowhere was a great gag] He also never gives up, even if using cheap tricks was an option he would use it. Let's be real, all I mentioned above with other moments such as "your next line is going to be...!!!" or the whole prediction moments make him so damn enjoyable, no single moment with him is dull. charismatic as hell if you ask me. ~!Honorable mentions: peeping on his mom while not knowing she was his mother in the first place, as given I was spoiled that Lisa Lisa was his mother, I burst out laughing when he said that "NICEE"!~ Last thing I want to address more clearly is his character development, and to be clear, character development doesn't mean growing in strength or getting power ups, its by growing up to be a better person with few new ideals and to lessen your flaws. he realized that he wasn't alone anymore, that he had people who cared for him, he realized there was no reason to be selfish anymore. he has come a long way from fighting only himself to save all humanity with no regrets. he basically was able to make use of hidden qualities within him such as willingness, acceptance, realization and kind-heartedness. Given how much of a versatile character Joseph is, he can be placed in any situation and still seem to fit perfectly in it. I'm not reaching, I just understood his character more clearly and thus I give him 9.3/10. --- ~~~__SIDE CAST__~~~ # __Part 1:__ The characters here are limited, and they can be counted on fingers. But let's be real, the characters here were bad. Dio Brando, a decent villain writing-wise but he's just a piece of shit with nothing to support why, his backstory is the lamest I've seen, sure his father was abusive but thats not a good reason for him to want to conquer over the world for it or make Jojo's life hell, the guy literally tried to befriend him. guess he's just naturally born evil which is valid. please do take note im talking about Dio Brando and not DIO. as far as im concerned, Dio is a decent villain with too little to support why, he's intelligent and has a really strong will, the fact that he rejected his humanity says a lot about him, his determination is solid steel, he thrives to achieve what's he sets to do no matter the hardships, he wants to achieve the impossible that he nearly doesn't acknowledge the word anymore. and God his confidence, its too excessive but lets be fair its attractive. his design is cool too, your typical evil English man. Other characters were also basically an "eh", Zeppeli was an okayish character, theres not much to say, he deserves credits for his determination and sacrifices though. Erina was the love interest, her love was pure and she was determined but again theres not much to say. George Joestar was..well having his dad moment the whole time, and carrying around some ugly stone mask as a decor piece from who knows where. Speedwagon was basically a commentator telling us uselessly what we are watching, (and this for a thing was an annoying trait we had to endure, personally I can say it pissed me off, and it wasn't only Speedwagon but multiple more characters), still he's a great character with immense loyalty and he was helpful at too many points throughout this part and legit almost all parts too indirectly, despite being an ordinary man with no super powers or anything super flashy. Looking at it, objectively he's the best JoBro. Now, I genuinely don't understand what was the point of Dire and Straizo and that training guy (whatever was his name), they were added last minute and they did _literally_ nothing, I was happy to see that there were more Hamon Users to help and for us to know more but no. they were useless. Dire literally died after 10 mins of his introduction in the stupidest way ever after being warned. so pointless. One thing I found annoying was how underutilized Zeppeli was, he was supposed to be a strong Hamon user who thought Jonathan Hamon in the first place but he couldn't defeat anyone. side characters deserve to shine very once in a while. 3/10 and I'm being generous. # __Part 2:__ In this part, we notice a huge difference in the quality of the writing of the characters, their goals seem better shaped, their motives have been way clearer and they have noticeable development. the same as in part 1, the cast may be limited but they're quite rich in elements, again, more definite goals and motives with memorable designs and personalities. Still, its not honestly that good In this part we come across yet another Zeppeli, the grandson. Ceaser started off as an arrogant womanizer hot stuff. Joseph and him didn't get along very well, their relationship was more of rivalry than just bro to bro, however that changed the moment Joseph showed sympathy toward his loss of his friend. Ceaser started respecting and encouraging Joseph more, seeing him as a good friend and an ally, ~!someone worthy to die for, which is lokwey a cliche but it was done really well, I mean his death was really sad, I admit I cried, and up to part 6, I think it was one of the most touching.!~ Ceaser was a really good improvement from the previous characters, his motives were clear and his attitude made some sort of sense as it aligned with his past quite well, he's hot tempered but actually good at heart and he has a pride in being a Zeppeli. his character development is probably the best in the part and his conclusion is something thats _really_ hard to forget. We have Lisa Lisa now, a great character by all means, to be honest, the fact that she was written as a strong female character who needed no man and actually men needed her back in eighties is so heartwarming for me as a female myself, because that way of thinking was so _uncommon_. now with the character, Lisa Lisa is quite a ruthless woman, the top in her field, she pulls herself together very well and refuses to show weaknesses, she's easily to take actions and is a quite of a sloppy character. she's admired by those around her. ~!she's a bad mom, I'll give her that.!~ There's smokey who was...just there yelling. Rudol von Stroheim, a fucking Nazi whos apparently a good guy, oh well he was cool we have to give him that. I suppose this concludes it for the allies, the other two Hamon men aren't even relevant enough that I dont remember their names to begin with. Now, my issue isn't with the characters themselves, my issue is how none of them was able to do defeat _any_ of the villains, in other words so underutilized, I love Joseph and I love it when he gets to shine but at least do Ceaser and Lisa Lisa justice and give them a single W. I believe its poor writing to leave everything for the main character and leave the other characters just as plot devices and do nothing particularly impressive (Ceaser's fight against Wamu was amazing though, still it didnt end well) I mean, Come on Lisa Lisa had a great potential to give us an amazing fight but instead she was used as a hostage and a fucking guitar. (Kars a chad for real) The villains? Kars is a one-dimensional character who's goal was pretty much the same as any other generic villain to exist: to conquer the world. the motive? a stupid God-complex. but to be fair, he wanted to be able to stand in the sun, but he took it a bit too far, Kars is okay but he's my least favorite main Jojo villain. Wamu (or Wham) was the only one I liked, he had more to his character and felt like a noble, prideful enemy who knew his limits and kept his word. I love this trope of villains. ECDC I cant remember how he looked, whatever he did or how exactly you spell his name. thats how bad a character he is. the characters are okay-ish but still not really good either, aside from Joseph and Ceaser the characters were pretty much lame. oh and Suzie Q is adorable. 5/10 and again I'm generous. --- __~~~WORLD BUILDING~~~__ There's not much to say here. Part one was exclusive to England, more specifically the Joestar's mansion and that one village that was an army training grounds at some point. which, admittedly, is pretty creative with the whole main idea of the build-in-mountain sort of castle. Part two featured both The US and Italy (which seems to be a favored setting by Araki). But, as you can see, the setting is definitely a fresh breathe of air, as per as usual anime, the setting is mostly in Japan, we dont really get to explore the outside world within these fictional creations. It's always one of these three options: A. a world building thats exclusive to the franchise. B. Japan setting (mostly Tokyo). and the seemingly uncommon option: C. exploring the outside world. It honestly seems like the third option is uncommon due to the short knowledge of the Mangkas when it comes to outside of Japan, and creating a new whole world seems risky, but within these two parts we get to explore England, The US and Italy, premises that are rather foreigner to normal Japanese fans and quite common for international fans. The idea itself is neat, and shows Araki's knowledge but other than that there's not much to offer. 5.2/10 I guess? ---- ~~~__POWER SYSTEM __~~~ Hamon, the sad lost Power System in JoJo. Let's be real, we all miss Hamon, no? but the Stands are much better and more iconic so I'm not gonna even complain. Hamon, the power that results from concentrating on the breathing that works on regulating the blood flow and streaming. Hamon is another normal PS in just like any other Shounens, it allows the user to perform quite the bizarre powers to be able to defeat your opponents, -mainly vampires, or anyone that cant face the sun directly-. Within part 1, we only saw a set of techniques (about like only 5) that were used, over and over, with nothing ultimately new. However in part 2, the power is generally utilized much better, it now involved infusing it into objects or shaping it into bubbles (which was the coolest way Hamon was used, thank you Ceaser). I liked the way Joseph wanted to create his own thing after seeing Ceaser's bubbles, I mean he was jealous lmao, so he came up with infusing his Hamon into cricket balls (or whatever these balls were honestly) and that was lowkey cool. In general, in my view what made Hamon better was the way Joseph and Ceaser actually used it. One more thing, I liked the fact Joseph and Ceaser had to undergo a whole hellish training to perfect their Hamon rather than just spend a goddamn single day like Jonathan did. I mean show us the struggle! its not cool to master it within a damn night. 6/10 I swear I didn't intend to rate everything this low, it just happened. --- ~~~__ANIMATION, ART AND SOUNDTRACKS __~~~ img3220(https://c.tenor.com/dQQWkjZZyP0AAAAC/jojo-pose.gif) Now we talk for real, I do understand why some people might be shoed away because of the art style (tch, weaklings) but personally, like many others, I find the art style to be iconic, I mean who doesn't like buff men, c'mon? but to not be biased, the overrate muscles in the thighs and arms was unreal, gladly this was a little bit adjusted in the 2nd part. ~!and pretty much erased from part 4 onwards...I was kinda sad about it.!~ To sum it up: The animation was amazing, really. The pacing? PERFECTION. The art was cool. There's no filler or whatsoever. I mean is there more to ask for? And now to the easiest 10 I have ever given. the soundtracks, holy shit, JoJo easily wins this by lots, the openings NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS BAD, I mean how's this possible? (and im talking about the openings from part 1 to 6) Okay so hear me out, this is a confession: I have never not skipped the opening in any anime before JoJo, I usually watched it once and I'd call it enough, yes thats true until JoJo happened, I couldn't bring myself to even skip them, Netflix would show me the "skip opening" bottom and i'd just turn blind, thats how good the songs and the visuals are. the endings are good too. In addition to that, the character's themes were hitting hard, Jonathan's theme was more like him: gentle, soft, and lovely and filled with determination. Joseph's however, was more like, lets go FUNKY. it starts off ominous and then goes hard. fitting indeed. Animation and Art: 8/10 Soundtracks: 11/10 --- ~~~__OVERALL__ ~~~ Part one was okay, it wasn't bad honestly but wasn't great either, when I first watched it, I was puzzled as why people commonly said it was practically awful, because when I finished it, I though it was good. But then I watched the rest of the parts and realized that, it was indeed the weakest part compared to the rest, but still it was _okay_, not terrible, although it was boring at some points. 5.5/10 Part 2, to this day is still within the upper rated JoJo parts, I really enjoyed it and liked the characters. The way the fights, the plot, the characters were handled was pretty good. I love this part. 7.8/10. You can check my bio for the rating system I base things off, 5 is considered OK and 7 is great. Now, the next thing you're going to say is, "Whoa, this was a good review!"
(Review edited and resturctured) Introduction: And so it begins, the journey towards JoJo's bizzare adventures, out from the segmented meme clips in the internet. What I experienced from JoJo's first is an overall simple shonen story about JoJo's adventure in fighting bad guys. This is the first series of JoJo's bizarre adventure, and it is arguably the least bizzare out of all JoJo's series, JoJo's storylines will progressibely get more bizarre as the parts progress. What I like: - The dialogues are memorable (hence the memes) ~!Examples including many of Joseph's and Dio's dialogues.!~ - Some of the characters are entertaining, and most of them are likeable ~!Joseph is the highlight of this series so far. Characters like the Pillar Men, Stronheim, Ceasar, and Speedwagon are decent as well.!~ - The music scores are bangers The OP/ED are absolutely legendary, the BGMs do not disappoint either. ~!Notable examples including Jonathan's death, Pillar Men's theme, Ceasar's death.!~ - Voice actings are legendary The highlight of the series, almost every voice actings is delivered brilliantly. What I dislike: - First part is overall quite bland ~!While it is not necessarily bad, it does not engage me to keep watching, mainly because the plot is the vanilla good vs bad with few twists and Jonathan, being the righteous gentleman, is not as entertaining as Joseph, who has more personality and tricks. The bad guys in part 1 is also not as interesting as part 2.!~ - Several plot conveniences ~!Examples including Dio resurrecting multiple times for whatever reasons (I know he is a meme legend, but it is quite annoying to see characters ressurected without enough reasons), though I can cut Joseph some slack since the entire gimmick of Joseph is using underhanded tricks and conveniences to solve problems.!~ - Several fight scene events feels disconnected ~!Examples including Joseph vs Wamuu 2 and Kars vs Joseph (plane). During Joseph and Wamuu fight, Wamuu casted Divine Sandstorm on Joseph, in which Joseph countered with Hamon and Wamuu got injured instead, but the animation shows Joseph getting injured by Divine Sandstrom (the animation even shows the blood). During Joseph's plane crash, Kars launched a life-transformation ambush on Joseph, forcing Joseph to eject with parachute, to which Kars rushed to, except the parachute was a dummy and Joseph was in the plane all along. This implies that the plane crashed slower than the parachute, which does not make sense.!~ - Some of the casts could be utilised more ~!Would like to see more actions from Lisa Lisa. Also, Dire should be given more screentime, heck he was killed 15 minutes after his introduction, I could not emphatize with his death.!~ Overall: - Pretty solid, delivered with passion, but overall storywriting contains flaws - A great show, but I would not advocate with passion to watchers
I'll try to spoil as little as possible. Bizzare as the name suggests with its balanced plot. STORY Divided in two parts First: about a boy named Jonathan Joestar who has a foster brother Dio Brando who was adopted by his father George Joestar to repay the debt to a man who "rescued" him from accident. As the story goes on Dio tries to take away everything from Jonathan because he thinks he can. Second: follows Jonathan Joestar's grandson Joseph Joestar who is caught up in the aftermath of events triggered by his grandpa. Story is not particularly bad but has some flaws in details, especially being extremely shallow and overexclamation of characters to each other's doings. Things happen very fast and simply but shown as extreme as possible maybe to cover up for the plot-holes in the first part. And in the second part makes the exact mistakes but upgrades the MC's flow which makes it more watchable than the first part. 6 out of 10 CHARACTERS Jonathan Joestar - a MC. ? (poorly written and still controls the story without getting better) Dio Brando - failure of a villain. Bullys Jonathan because he can and tries to take over the world because he thinks he can. No exact motives and full of stupid "bugs". Speedwagon - he didn't even has to be here but he's here. Gets excited over almost every step the MCs take and sreams them out for you. Zeppeli Will A. - is better written than the MC and had to stronger but no. And is not rational enough to survive than dying for the MC. Joseph Joestar - has no deep backstory but has a flow that can make you swim in. Zeppeli Caesar - sidekick or guy to take place of his grandpa just like Joseph but is an upgrade of his grandpa as a character. Speedwagon - comes back as an important person for the MC but still the as he was before. Antagonists are better than the first part, having a decent motives and a believeable personalities. 6.5 out of 10 SETTING Nothing is wrong with the setting. If there's something the series succeed in it is the setting and animation. 9 out of 10 ANIMATION A unique animation style which is quite impressive. Colorful and fun. But still has very odd character design as the characters are very enormous and poses are weird. 8 out of 10 SATISFACTION Even though I didn't like the first part I saw a big jump up in the second part which made me watch it more than I wanted when watching the first. Second part has better plot than the first and also depicted well. Maybe Akari-san finally got it seriously. ? Overall, the series might have been a hit in its own time but has a lot better rivals now, however it works as a gateway to the franchise and does it well. For ones who is starting to watch now as a "modern" weeb, endure it Joseph has your back.? 7.5 out of 10 (for second part ) Overall 6.5
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure... What a ride it's been from one of the more critically acclaimed underground anime series to one of the most celebrated and well-known; the series started that trend with this anime. Of course, there's been plenty of adaptions around before this, like the Stardust Crusaders OVA from 1993, or the cancelled Phantom Blood movie which I'm not sure was found, or Heritage to the Future, the Capcom fighting game. But once this came out, they've been adapting the entire series, not just certain moments of the manga that were relevant at the time. Like... what can I say about JoJo that hasn't already been said? It's one of the most celebrated and influential series in manga and anime. "Is that a JoJo reference?", while often used in jest, is legitimately a real question with a lot of shows. The complete absurdity of some fights and scenes, and how they seemingly WORK not only in terms of logic but for character motivation. It's not your normal shonen anime, and I think that's what got a lot of people hooked. Now it feels like it's become what it stood out from, with multiple seasons for different parts ever since Part 3, and only getting bigger and bigger in scope. At least the protagonist and location change vastly between parts, but it's a monumental task to watch Parts 3-6, and a task to read through parts 7-9 (ongoing) due to the wacky scheduling and constant breaks. So, it becomes a task to even start the series. Bottom line, start here. Even if SOME PEOPLE think you should skip parts 1 and 2 because they follow different systems and aren't "as good." Excuse me, Dio puts Jonathan's dog in a furnace just to flex on him, and Joseph pulls a machine gun out of nowhere to blast some dude his grandfather knew. It's plenty amazing. There's a simpler charm that the first two parts have that aren't ever replicated in later parts, and while that could be for the better, I think that charm is still an immense draw to still watch this first. Anyway, JoJo has had a very deep connection with music, most notably, classic rock. But in terms of actual music composed __specifically__ for the anime, it's absolute gold. The series has always had great music, but the music for this part is nothing short of perfect. The classic Victorian sounds of Phantom Blood, to the absolutely bonkers, loud, jazzy, and experimental score for Battle Tendency, all with the best two opening themes in the series (Crazy Noisy Bizarre Town is a close third), it's amazing. What isn't amazing, is how Warner Music screwed the main composer of the Battle Tendency part of the anime, Taku Iwasaki (who also did the music for Gurren Lagann). Basically, instead of the vocal tracks he composed for the soundtrack, they used the instrumentals in the anime. And then they decided to not release the instrumentals. Aaaand he hasn't worked with JJBA ever since, unfortunately. Anyway, the second part of the music connection, is in the name of certain characters. Robert E.O. Speedwagon, Dio, Santana, Esidisi, etc., are all names connected to music. In the Sub, this isn't an issue at all. The dub... ...JoJo is one of those weird animes that use engrish on purpose for comedic effect. The dubwork is done very well, but the loss of iconic lines like "Kono Dio Da!" or any of Joseph's funny engrish, isn't present (even if Joseph is voiced by NUMBUH 1 AND 2 FROM KND OF ALL PEOPLE). Another thing, the English names are changed to avoid copyright. Flaccid Pancake is a dogshit name, and I don't think Limp Bizkit will care. I'm not normally a stickler for dub/sub, since the dub is usually done really well, but JoJo is one of those rare anime that its hard to watch dubbed, sorry. I've fallen out of the series, unfortunately, it feels like it's been appropriated by very annoying sects of people and the later parts never really excited me. But Part 2 is my favorite, and a huge part of that is the excellent job the anime did. It's legit one of my favorites, and an amazing start to the series.
This review is relatively spoiler free. JJBA season 1 was contracted to me by a fellow member on the anicord discord server. Thus, watching this had double the incentive. I was sure to get to jojo's at some point in time, but this really gave me the push I needed to finally get me into the franchise. Therefore, I feel the need to begin by thanking my contractor-RedStar65. Without further ado, let's begin. ____PART 1: PHANTOM BLOOD____ The first part of jjba, follows Jonathan Joestar on his life's journey. When Jonathan was little, his family adopted Dio Brando-the son of the man who saved Jonathan's father from death. Dio acts as a stepbrother who brings ultimate despair upon Jonathan. Dio pretends to be on good terms with Jonathan while secretly plotting the death of his father. Years later, and after Dio shows his true colors, the adventure unfolds. Jojo must stop Dio and bring an end to his evil ways, as a mask that turns men into vampires is in his possesion. 1. Narrative: Part 1 has a simple narrative and a strong one at that. The mask acts as the tool to progress the story while later elements, such as Hamon is incorporated into the plot. Some deaths were quite well done and instead of being sad, they instead act as the beginning of a legacy. If there is one thing to criticize on the narrative aspect, it's just that is a bit too simple. While not detracting from the experience at all, the full potential of the plot points and characters, ultimately go unrealized in part 1. 2. Characters: Personal favorites of mine are Dio and Speedwagon. Most are quite surface level characters but are great sources of fun and humor. 3. Soundtrack: part 1 has a couple good tracks such as the ending theme. Most are not worth listening to on their own in my opinion as they mostly server to heighten or suite the overall tone and atmosphere of the story and action. 4. Quality: The animation, visual style, audio direction, and pacing is all up to standard. While I have heard negatives about part 1, such as it feeling slow, I disagree. I believe part 1 to have a decent pace and beautifully carries itself into part 2. ____PART 2: BATTLE TENDANCY____ The second part of jjba follows the grandson of Jonathan Joestar-Joseph Joestar-as he uncovers the truths behind the mysteries of the masks in order to save his family and planet earth from the creation of the ultimate lifeform. (I would make a shadow the hedgehog joke somewhere around here, but I'm too unfunny even in the anime space.) 1. Narrative: Compared to part 1, Battle Tendancy has a larger tale to tell, and therefore I appreciate the more episodes that were dedicated to it. It begins simple in the back alleys of New York, and ultimately leads to a journey across continents as Jojo must learn to perfect Hamon to defeat Wamuu, Esidisi, and Kars. The origin of the mask from part 1 is revealed and many cool plot points and sequences occur-especially near the end- that I would rather not spoil. 2. Characters: I love Joseph! He is my favorite character in the series thus far and can carry scenes on his back. Caesar, Lisa Lisa, Speedwagon, and Stroheim were highlights in the cast that helped add spice to the drama. 3. Soundtrack: Some memorable tracks were included in part 2. I recall jamming out to some of these, so headphone users are in for a treat. 4. Quality: Pretty much the same as part 1 on all fronts, understandable as it is the same anime season afterall. The ending to part 2 left a dumb smile on my face, and was one of the best parts of my experience. ____Conclusion____ I loved this series. Anyone looking for some great dynamics and an entertaining watch should give jjba a shot. I know I'm very late to the series, but better late than never. I can't wait to see what stardust crusaders has to offer. youtube(https://youtu.be/W4rG1bYJnUM?si=oGzxA7wYMzFuVv6b)
