Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia

Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia

A seventh Singularity has been discovered in ancient Mesopotamia in the year 2655 B.C.

The land of Uruk, governed by the wise King Gilgamesh after he returned from his quest for immortality, was grand and prosperous until three goddesses and countless Demonic Beasts appeared. These enemies have brought Uruk to the brink of destruction. With a Rayshift—a method of traveling across both time and space—Fujimaru and Mash journey to the land of Uruk, where they encounter the fortress city of Uruk and the Absolute Demonic Front, where a terrible battle against the fearsome onslaught of the Demonic Beasts rages. There, the citizens of Uruk, who live their lives to the fullest despite facing an existential threat, continue to fight for their future. Deities and Demonic Beasts attack with terrifying force, and mankind pushes back with all its might... This is the era where humans and gods are destined to part ways.

Fujimaru and Mash, the pair who have fought through all six previous Singularities, embark on their final battle.

Got around to finally watching and surprisingly completing it quickly, quite the bingeable show it was. Now, anime-only might've been confused in the start with the whole "Grand Order", for that my best advice for you is to start the game - Fate/Grand Order, it's available on both Android and iOS It was one big intense adventure from the start to finish, it was odd seeing it all animated but they did a good job with it though missing and somewhat changing some details but overall it remained true to the events in the game to my understanding. It was fun seeing all the characters interact with actual voices accompanied by lovely OSTs. As for the battles, it was a treat to see all the fights not having to worry about team compositions, supports and whatnot. Just sat back and watched the mayhem ensue and speaking of which, this adaptation of Fate really showed how powerful Servants are. Plus the CGI for the show wasn't half bad. they did a well enough job considering how CGI usually rolls in anime. About the story itself, going through it again made me realize why it isn't the best Singularity then it comes to that aspect. The stakes are higher and the battles are as flashy as ever but the first half of the Singularity - mostly the Goddess retrieval Arc you could say had a recurring element and somewhat luck or simply plot armour to it. However the final part was a thrill ride through and through with surprises every turn it took. Finally, let's not forget the best thing about the show - Gilgamesh or more accurately Caster Gil. I don't like Gil's character from the previous adaptations but FGO Gil? Now he was a breath of fresh air. Seeing him align with the good side (though he isn't exactly evil to begin with) was a new and enjoyable side of him. Well you can make the argument those are two different versions but whatever the case, the Wise King of Uruk definitely outdoes the Tyrannical King of Uruk for me. Still it was fun seeing him boss people around, well he was a King. Definitely Best Boy material right there. The journey doesn't end there, next up Fate/Grand Order - Endgame (Final Singularity) Screenshot-1581

~~~ #**Fate/Grand Order: Absolute Demonic Front Babylonia** *(Disponible sur **[Wakanim](https://www.wakanim.tv/fr/v2/catalogue/show/520/fategrand-order-absolute-demonic-front-babylonia/season/941/saison-1---cour-1)**)* °°° #**Synopsis** --- img(https://i.imgur.com/eokUipE.png) --- *2017 après J.C. Ultime ère de magie. L’homme a créé la société, mais ce sont les mages qui ont compris le monde. La magie du passé ne peut être expliquée par la science, mais les technologies du futur ne peuvent être répliquées par la magie. Chaldea rassemble chercheurs et universitaires issus des milieux magique et scientifique au sein de l’Organisation pour la préservation de la logique humaine. Leur mission : préserver la civilisation humaine. Mais leurs calculs ont prédit que l’humanité s’éteindrait en 2019. En cause, les « domaines qui ne peuvent être observés », des anomalies apparues à différentes périodes de l’histoire passée, des « singularités ». Ritsuka Fujimaru, le seul Master restant à Chaldea, ainsi que le demi-Servant Mash Kyrielight sont intervenus au sein de ces Singularités. Leur mission, le Grand Order : résorber ou détruire ces singularités, et empêcher la fin de l’humanité. Une septième singularité a été découverte en Mésopotamie en l’an 2655 avant J.C. La terre d’Uruk, gouvernée par le roi sage Gilgamesh de retour d’un voyage en quête d’immortalité, coulait des jours fastes et prospères jusqu’à l’apparition de trois déesses et d’innombrables Bêtes Démoniaques qui l’amenèrent au bord de l’annihilation. Grâce au « Rayshift », une méthode permettant de voyager dans le passé, Fujimaru et Mash arrivent sur la terre d’Uruk, y découvrent la ville fortifiée ainsi que le Front Démoniaque Absolu : l’ultime rempart de l’humanité contre les Bêtes Démoniaques. Citoyens d’Uruk, soldats et Servants continuent à vivre malgré la menace, se battant pour leur avenir. Les Divinités et les Bêtes Démoniaques lancent leur assaut, auquel l’humanité s’oppose… Nous entrons dans l’ère fatidique où humains et dieux se sont séparés. Après avoir traversé six premières singularités, Fujimaru et Mash s’engagent dans leur toute dernière bataille.* *Source : Wakanim* °°° #**Histoire** --- img(https://i.imgur.com/9vJceKv.jpg) --- **La formation de l’alliance** La première partie pose d’emblée le contexte et on se sent directement immergé au coeur de l’action. Chaque rencontre de Fujimaru et Mash avec un nouveau personnage engendre systématiquement un affrontement de haute volée, à l’exception peut-être de Merlin et Ana qui se sont positionnés en tant qu’alliés dès le début de l’aventure. Pour gagner le respect des autres et faire en sorte que l’on se range de leur côté, le duo doit mener des batailles de plus en plus intenses, au prix de sacrifices de plus en plus conséquents, règle qui se généralise sur toute la durée de l’histoire. **Le combat pour la survie d’Uruk** Un des nombreux points qui fait sortir l’oeuvre du lot est la façon dont le scénario nous fait réaliser que chaque victoire, aussi petite soit elle, a de la valeur. Que ce soit la satisfaction d’avoir réussi à rallier un être puissant à sa cause ou celle d’avoir réussi à vaincre un adversaire qui semblait imbattable, de chaque triomphe se dégage un sentiment de soulagement et de récompense… jusqu’à ce que débarque le prochain obstacle. C’est particulièrement vrai pendant la deuxième partie lors de l’affrontement entre le clan de Fujimaru et celui de Gorgon, mais aussi contre Tiamat. Plus les ennemis s’enchaînent, plus les protagonistes doivent redoubler d’ingéniosité, d’efforts et puiser dans leurs dernières ressources, plus les affrontements gagnent en intensité, en enjeu, en dimension, plus les ennemis se font coriaces, et le cycle se poursuit. Car oui, malgré toute la rage et toute la puissance que les protagonistes peuvent déverser afin d’en finir une fois pour toutes, cela s’avère trois fois sur quatre insuffisant et la situation devient de plus en plus désespérée. Les plot twist sont donc nombreux et très bien menés. Le spectateur est maintenu en haleine jusqu’à la dernière seconde et l’immersion est réelle. Jusqu’à la fin, on nous aura fait comprendre de par son intensité que cette bataille fut lourde de sacrifices. Ce qui semble donc être un happy ending ne l’est peut-être pas tant que ça au final. Gilgamesh avait juré sur son honneur et sur sa vie que même si Uruk devait périr avec ses habitants, l’humanité demeurerait. En bref, le dénouement proposé ici était exactement celui qu’il fallait pour conclure. **Les débuts de Mash et Fujimaru** S’il fallait citer un point noir à l’histoire, ce serait peut-être le manque d’informations concernant les événements qui se sont déroulés avant l’arc Babylonia et qui ont amené ce duo à être ce qu’il est aujourd’hui. Bien que l’on ait eu droit à un épisode consacré au passé de Mash et quelques bribes çá et là sur ses batailles antérieures aux côtés de Fujimaru, seuls ceux qui ont joué au jeu vidéo peuvent réellement se vanter de connaître tout ce qu’il y a à savoir sur la saga *Fate/Grand Order*. Ayant particulièrement pris plaisir à visionner la série, il n’aurait pas été de refus d’avoir un arc et/ou une saison supplémentaire dédiés aux combats pour détruire les six autres Singularités, ce qui aurait permis par la même occasion de comprendre d’où vient la complicité si forte entre le maître et son demi-Servant. Cela dit, au vu de la qualité actuelle de la série, il aurait été sans nul doute difficile d’adapter l’avant Babylonia en animé en gardant une qualité semblable sans être complètement hors-budget. °°° #**Personnages** --- img(https://i.imgur.com/1kiP60c.png) --- **Ritsuka Fujimaru** À première vue, il ne semble déjà pas dégager une aura de leader imposant ou d’être aux capacités hors du commun et la suite ne fait que le confirmer. Fujimaru est lui-même conscient de sa réelle valeur : il n’est pas le plus fort, ni celui qui possède d’incroyables pouvoirs. En effet, le garçon sait ce qu’il vaut et ses qualités sont ailleurs. Il entretient avec chacun de ses compagnons une relation au minimum de respect partagé et d’intérêts communs, et sinon de proximité étroite voire d’amitié sincère dès qu’il en a l’occasion. C’est pour cette raison qu’il a pu ranger autant d’individus aux personnalités si différentes à ses côtés. Ce n’est pas pour autant un imbécile heureux qui ne réfléchit jamais par lui-même et qui se repose constamment sur les autres. Au fur et à mesure que l’histoire avance, il gagne en maturité et comprend ses responsabilités en tant que Master. Il a toujours su garder en tête l’importance des différentes enjeux et prend souvent les bonnes décisions au bon moment. Il ressort définitivement grandi de sa mission. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/Ik3qKwj.png) --- **Mash Kyrielight** Celle qui a eu l’honneur de prêter sa voix à ce personnage si attachant n’est pas n’importe qui, puisqu’il s’agit de [Rie Takahashi](https://anilist.co/staff/119331/Rie-Takahashi) (*[Re:ZERO](https://anilist.co/anime/21355/ReZERO-Starting-Life-in-Another-World/)*, *[Konosuba](https://anilist.co/anime/21202/KONOSUBA-Gods-blessing-on-this-wonderful-world/)*, *[Karakai Jōzu no Takagi-san](https://anilist.co/anime/99468/Teasing-Master-Takagisan/)*...). Sa voix sied à merveille avec la personnalité de Mash. Ce que l’on remarque en premier, c’est que cette dernière se montre très polie et respectueuse avec tout le monde. Un autre trait de son caractère est la fidélité dont elle fait preuve en tant que Servant envers Fujimaru. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/mBhH752.jpg) --- **Ishtar** Dans la Mythologie Mésopotamienne, elle était la déesse de la beauté, de la moisson, de la guerre, de la luxure, de la discorde et de la fertilité. Seulement, malgré son statut et ce qu’elle veut bien nous faire croire, Fujimaru et Mash, tout comme le spectateur, ont d’emblée cerné sa véritable personnalité. Elle est souvent maladroite, tête en l’air, très peu honnête avec elle-même et pour couronner le tout, elle est très avare et raffole de bijoux, de pierres précieuses et de trésors en tout genre. Pourtant, bien qu’elle essaye de se donner un air de déesse implacable et de grande méchante, elle s’avère profondément gentille et développe malgré elle une complicité avec celui qui est temporairement devenu son Master. Enfin et surtout, elle est d’une puissance terrifiante et quand elle décide de se battre sérieusement, l’étendue de sa force magique nous donne droit à des scènes plus épiques les unes que les autres. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/7KRcDSI.jpg) --- **Ereshkigal** La déesse et responsable du Monde des Morts est en quelque sorte la seconde facette d'Ishtar et, à l'inverse de cette dernière, elle est bien plus réservée et manque cruellement de confiance en elle. Elle aura toutefois su jouer un rôle essentiel lors de la dernière bataille contre Tiamat et a même choisi de se sacrifier afin de protéger l'humanité qu'elle haïssait tant. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/6lyIuxK.jpg) --- **Enkidu** Celui qui était autrefois l'ami du Héros des Héros et qui n'est maintenant plus qu'une simple machine de guerre au service de Tiamat a fini par faire la paix avec son passé, suite au sacrifice de Siduri et au sien après avoir apporté une dernière fois son soutien au Roi d'Uruk. L'évolution qu'il a connue tout au long de ce périple était très intéressante à suivre. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/ANFctp8.jpg) --- **Gilgamesh** Ayant vu *[Fate/Zero](https://anilist.co/anime/10087/FateZero/)* et *[Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works](https://anilist.co/anime/19603/Fatestay-night-Unlimited-Blade-Works/)*, j’ai été agréablement surpris de le retrouver ici. Dès ses premiers instants à l’écran, on comprend rapidement à qui l’on a affaire. Extérieurement, il a absolument tout du souverain suprême et dégage une aura et une confiance en lui presque écrasantes, à tel point qu’il devient embarrassant de lui adresser la parole. L’homme connaît son statut et l’étendue de sa force, et il ne s’en cache clairement pas même si, un peu à l’instar d’Ishtar, malgré l’impression qu’il peut donner, sa bonté n’a d'égal que sa prestance. Mais ce qui m’a réellement fait l’aimer plus que n’importe quel autre personnage et ce qui le fait tant sortir du lot, c’est sa capacité à garder la tête haute même dans les moments les plus durs. Son discours face à Uruk tout entière pour les préparer à la guerre démontre le charisme et l'influence qu’il inspire. La perte jadis de son meilleur ami Kingu et de sa servante depuis toujours à ses côtés Siduri ne suffisent pas à l’abattre. Il va malgré tout de l’avant et continue de se battre pour la survie de l’humanité, au péril de sa propre vie. Alors que tous le croyaient mort sous les coups de Tiamat, il réapparaît au moment opportun et c’est encore lui qui débloque la situation. Sa relation avec Mash et Fujimaru a permis à ces derniers de mûrir, et l’acquisition de la 7ème Singularité est la meilleure conclusion possible à cette oeuvre. En bref, Gilgamesh aura clairement été le moteur de cette histoire et mon personnage favori de cette aventure, et de loin. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/CLgcW1x.jpg) --- Mention spéciale à **Merlin** et **Ana**. Ils ont tous les deux joué un rôle majeur dans les différentes batailles ayant eu lieu et sont apparus au moment où l’on s’y attendait le moins. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/6nN6mip.png) --- Enfin, petite mention également à **Quetzalcoatl**, la déesse du Soleil, du vent, des arts, de l’artisanat et du savoir, pour nous avoir gratifié de l’une des scènes les plus épiques de toute la série. °°° #**Visuel** --- img1000(https://i.imgur.com/4JM9s62.gif) --- Une des caractéristiques de cette oeuvre qui fait sans aucun doute l’unanimité est l’aspect visuel dans son intégralité, et tout particulièrement au niveau des combats. Les différentes batailles de Fujimaru ont clairement donné lieu à des scènes à couper le souffle, et tout particulièrement dans le deuxième arc. La chorégraphie des combats est incroyablement fluide et rythmée. Cet animé possède clairement une collection de moments devenus mémorables “simplement” grâce au talent et au travail titanesque de ses animateurs. Conserver la même qualité sur une vingtaine d’épisodes est une prouesse qui mérite amplement d’être soulignée. °°° #**Audio** Bien que les openings n’ont rien de sensationnel, on ne peut pas en dire autant pour les [OST](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSVpOR5Y70E). Peu importe la situation, ils nous immergent totalement dans cette atmosphère mésopotamienne et rendent les différents affrontements encore plus spectaculaires. Les endings quant à eux ne sont pas en reste non plus. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/NyWdqNQ.png) --- Le premier est interprété par *Eir Aoi*, et est en fait un hommage à Kingu, le défunt ami de Gilgamesh, heureux d’avoir été doté d’une nouvelle vie et toujours nostalgique du passé, le coeur vide. Cette nostalgie se ressent notamment dans la musique elle-même, à la fois mélancolique et entraînante. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/Ww2Aglv.jpg) --- Le second est interprété par *milet* et se nomme “**[Prover](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4HwM9PAxb1k&list=PLk3-n3grzjBjziDK5BDilcFmUKob1A1wL&index=136&t=0s)**”. Il est dédié à Gilgamesh le Héros des Héros et montre toutes les batailles auxquelles le Roi d’Uruk a pris part ainsi que tous ceux qu’il a perdus au combat. Il est réalisé de manière à nous montrer le côté humain de Gilgamesh qui, malgré toutes les épreuves qu’il a traversées, continue d’aller de l’avant tout en gardant en mémoire l’identité des soldats tombés au combat. Le tout est sublimé par une mélodie à la fois mélancolique et puissante, qui donne une sorte d’élan d’espoir et qui démontre toute la détermination du souverain à se battre pour ce peuple qu’il aime tant. --- img(https://i.imgur.com/5PTdEHO.jpg) --- Enfin, le troisième, intitulé “**[Tell Me](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXewJvF-tsQ&list=PLk3-n3grzjBjziDK5BDilcFmUKob1A1wL&index=135&t=0s)**” et aussi interprété par *milet*, est celui qui est le plus lourd de sens et le plus impactant émotionnellement, puisqu’il s’agit d’une reconstitution sous forme de tableaux du passé de Gilgamesh, retraçant les précieux et nombreux moments qu’il a passés aux côtés de Kingu et de Siduri, ses amis de toujours qui ont fini par le quitter au fil de ses péripéties. Le côté symbolique et poignant de la chanson ressort d’autant plus sachant que cet ending est joué à la fin de l’épisode qui se termine par le sacrifice de Siduri. °°° #**Appréciation** --- img(https://i.imgur.com/N0pX4ro.jpg) --- Qualifier cette série de chef-d’oeuvre juste en s’attardant sur le travail audio et visuel réalisé n’aurait rien de surprenant. Ajoutez à cela le mix impeccable entre affrontements dantesques, comédie bien dosée et moments poignants, et je pense sincèrement que l'on ne passe pas loin d'avoir une oeuvre techniquement et scénaristiquement parfaite ; *[CloverWorks](https://anilist.co/studio/6222/CloverWorks)* a définitivement produit un travail d’orfèvre. J’en avais déjà une excellente impression avec leurs précédentes productions telles que *[Rascal Does Not Dream of Bunny Girl Senpai](https://anilist.co/anime/101291/Rascal-Does-Not-Dream-of-Bunny-Girl-Senpai/)*, *The Promised Neverland* ou encore le fruit de leur collaboration avec le studio *Trigger*, *DARLING in the FRANXX*. À ce jour, cette histoire reste ma préférée de la saga *Fate* (en attendant de voir le reste). Malheureusement, beaucoup de personnes semblent être passées à côté de ce qui est sans conteste l’un des tout meilleurs titres de l’année passée. Des gros noms comme *Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba*, *Vinland Saga*, *Dr. Stone*, *Mob Psycho 100* et j’en passe semblent l’avoir éclipsé. Cependant, et c’est peut-être ce qui a freiné certains pourtant tentés au début, je recommande fortement de visionner au moins *[Fate/Zero](https://anilist.co/anime/10087/FateZero/)* et *[Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works](https://anilist.co/anime/19603/Fatestay-night-Unlimited-Blade-Works/)* afin de mieux comprendre l’univers de *Fate* et d’apprécier pleinement l’oeuvre, puisque de nombreuses références et clins d’oeil aux histoires alternatives sont faits ici. Malgré tout, cette adaptation est largement réussie à tous les niveaux, et l'on ne peut qu'espérer que celle qui portera sur la dernière singularité sera d'une qualité équivalente. >Histoire : 9 Visuel : 10 Personnages : 9 Audio : 9 Appréciation : 10 **Note globale : 9.4** **Merci infiniment de m'avoir lu jusqu'au bout !** img300(https://i.imgur.com/jJX5fVi.gif) ***Review écrite le 09/07/2020*** ~~~
I rewatched this anime as I was playing Babylonia singularity in the game and my opinion has changed significantly, I don't really remember my initial thought about it but I know that I used to think it's the same level as Apocrypha (I'm very sorry) Babylonia is one of the best fgo first arc story, while the story is not as deep as Camelot. It did a great job portraying the desperation to survive, giving all of our to a leader and overcoming hardships. This anime is not by any means a perfect adaptation because of  EP 11, 19 and 20 but it is not a bad or mediocre adaptation at all, in fact it's actually a good to amazing adaptation especially the first 18 episode. I love how much care and effort they put in this anime especially during NP scenes, while the game was more in depth about the characters, the anime did not fail providing information about how they are and their true nature. Since i'm talking about characters, let's talk about Gilgamesh, easily the best character in the anime. The breath of fresh air, not as the King of Heroes we know but as the King of Uruk. You can see that he's a very wise king, who cares for his people and companians. Babylonia did a great job potraying Gil as a maturity, as example, we see him organizing supplies, ordering the troops to protect Uruk, etc. We even get to see a completely  different kind of Gilgamesh who love to poking fun around Ishtar (even headpats xD and others). He gave a strong word of encouragement to Ritsuka and Mash, his people just for the final showdown, so that they know their fight was not in vain. That's what I love about him, well that's enough about him. The OSTs and sound effect was simply slendid as they fit in very well with the important moment that were showcased and managed to elevate that certain scene to another level and bring the same emotion just like I feel during my walkthrough. The fights and the choreography was amazing just as I expected, well what is Fate anime if it don't have a god-like fight. ____the negative bits (not much)____ I won't go to specifics about what I dislike about it but I hate that they cut Jaguar Man's badassery and how they kind of butchered the very final fight. They kind of butchered King Hassan entrance and fight as well, which is sad since that's one of my favourite part. Maybe that's all.. ____Overall____ All in all this is one of the best fate adaptation i've seen and worth the Gacha SQ and sweats. I really really enjoyed and like this anime, they did it justice despite some of the cuts, I reccomend you to play the game to get the full grasp of what FGO means and I can guarantee you will appreciate much more just like I did. Now bring on, Fate/Endgame: Grand Temple of Time: Solomon.
Plot - based on the moblie game adaptation of the same name "fate/grand order" takes place in the year 2016 in which a team of time travelers go back in time in order to fix issues called "singularities" that disturbs the flow of time and space, "Ritsuka Fujimaru" and his teammate/servant "Mash Kyrielight" AKA best girl go on the adventure of back in time in the ancient times around the land of uruk as they explore and team with a bunch of goddesses and protect the world from the current singularity that invades the mortal world with the non-human army and the story is pretty straightforward and paced slowly in a good way and the story in the surface may seem like a standard fantasy adventure but the way it was executed here was really amazing tbh, 10/10 Characters - Ritsuka was alright he was a fairly standard protagonist and ishtar and the other goddesses all seemed okay but what i really liked is the new portrayal of Gilgamesh in most fate content he seemed like the "full of himself" type of a king but this gilgamesh really felt like an actual king he was logical, kind and strategic and his speech was the cherry on the top for me tbh this gilgamesh's version is probably my favorite he was really great, mash kyrielight aka best girl she quickly obtained a dominant spot in my top 10 fate characters just what else can i say? mash has peak design peak personality peak waifu material pretty much all the side characters were good or fine but what i think was a missed opportunity was how poorly handled the chaldea team characters were i can understand that da vinci and romani had their screen time in the camelot movies and mash special but i wished we saw more of them more because romani and da vinci seemed to have quite the duo but i'll forgive this for best girl mash, 10/10 Production - the animation was average at best but the fight scenes seemed to be animated hard some scenes felt smooth as hell and even the osts were fine and the fate franchise never fails to create sound effect bangers like damn they hit hard when it comes to sounds effects everything was good overall, 7/10 Speciality - i liked the vibe this anime had, most adventure always feel pretty empty but fate/grand order had a final-fantasy-esque kind of vibe and i don't know if it's just me or not but coincidently i'm a fan of final fantasy games and i really liked the adventurous vibe of the anime each episode progresses the journey and not a single episode felt like filler which i think is every adventure anime should be because when a journey is at hand the audience need to see a coherent continuous journey they can follow and the themes of the anime is 100% about hope and humanity the goal of the villains is pretty much creating an upgrade for humanity and shine hope through all people, but the current humanity proves the new ones wrong by showing even in the lowest states such as the aftermath of uruk's invasion, hope can still be made through one singular speech from dear old king gilgamesh the theme of hope has been established in many fictional medias before but i liked this anime way of showing the theme without even mentioning it which is pretty genius to me, 9/10 Enjoyment - for a mobile game adaptation i expected this to be average or bad but i'm glad my expectations were blown out of the water, fate/stay night friendship ended grand order is my new friend now if you hunger for more fate content you should watch this hidden gem now!, my final rating is 10/10
The Fate series itself is singularly unique among the fantasy genre in anime. I've reviewed previous Fate anime, so I do not feel it is necessary to go over the whole Fate oeuvre here. While I don't think the mythological or historical aspects of the characters in the series impressed me with how they treated them in the story, I have always enjoyed the action and some of the dramatic facets they put into it. I have always had a strange relationship with the Fate series. It's like how I was with the Harry Potter series: I liked watching the movies, but they never made me want to grab the source material to see whatever minutiae I may have missed that the films didn't show. The mobile game Fate Grand Order is all the rage nowadays in that it's the game with the most amount of lewd fan art posted every week. Now, this could be me not wanting to touch a mobile game with a ten-foot pole because I have no interest in trying the source material. But this was my same reaction to the visual novel Fate Stay Night. Even though I don't play visual novels that much, I still can get around to it here and there. This whole spiel is to get you to know what mindset I'm in going into this show. ~~~img1000(https://gonzonyan.files.wordpress.com/2020/07/egsdafgas-1.jpg?w=1024)~~~ I can say with certainty that Fate/Grand Order: Zettai Majuu Sensen Babylonia, or for the sake of shortness Fate Babylonia, shows that you can adapt a mobile game that everyone can enjoy. Granted, I have not watched every mobile game anime adaptation. However, that's because the ones I have seen have been either terrible or dull to unwatchable. There is a multitude of reasons why this is the case. Either they do not adapt the source material well, which will piss off the game's fans and confuse the non-fans because of how warped the narrative is, or they try to come up with a generic story for the games that had a little story, to begin with. The story of the previous Fate anime series has always been a little simplistic but positive. There was not much in terms of complexity or high-brow political intrigue you see in many fantasy fiction. While I wouldn't say Babylonia is too complicated with its story, I think that what is there is enough for it to be more distinct from Fate Zero or Fate Stay Night. It still has the same compelling character drama we have come to know in the past and the comedic nature to help balance the story's darker aspects to make it more of an enjoyable hero's journey. ~~~img1000(https://gonzonyan.files.wordpress.com/2020/07/regwsdafgvsd-1.jpg?w=1024)~~~ While a few characters in the story have appeared in previous seasons, there are some new ones for us to get experience with fresh eyes. Honestly, it is a mixed bag. Our main hero Ritsuka is what I would call the prototypical bland protagonist you could find in any mediocre JRPG. He fits into that category of not being terrible or great; he's there to provide an essential guide to drive the plot along. Still, nothing about his personality made him memorable in any way. He does have a handful of good and even funny moments, but he sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the other characters. For instance, his servant Mash has all the personality you would need for a character to be exciting yet can still present herself as intangible to the main story. If all of these problems were alleviated, I think he would've been at least close to being as great as Shirou. Then again, it would be hard to do that feat. While you could argue that she is Rin from the previous entries, Ishtar is my favorite. Not only from her physical design, mind you. Her hilarious tsundere personality that we've come to know from Rin and her interactions with the other characters gave the show some life whenever she was on-screen. Ana has her fair share of funny and cute moments; her role is strictly for comic relief or action sequences. Enkidu was probably the one with the most intriguing back story out of all of the characters. Yet I feel like it could've been explored further, but due to the typical process of adaptations, they had to cut some of it; I'm assuming it was for cutting downtime as is usually the case. This problem persists in most characters with fascinating backstories that we don't get to see further. I could see this alleviated with a 2nd season, as it is almost guaranteed this will be the case. Oh, Gilgamesh is a king now and is just as awesome as before. ~~~img1000(https://gonzonyan.files.wordpress.com/2020/07/ewfasdfcsa-1.jpg?w=1024)~~~ It's always essential to critique the animation and art department in a Fate anime ever since ufotable took over production in Fate Zero and Fate Stay Night Unlimited Blade Works. Except with Fate Babylonia, ufotable is no longer fulfilling the role. Instead, we get CloverWorks, responsible for Seishun Buta Yarou wa Bunny Girl Senpai no Yume wo Minai, Yakusoku no Neverland, and Persona 5 the Animation. While they are pretty good in animation quality, ufotable still reigns supreme in that department. In comparison to the previous Fate series, Babylonia does not come close to that level of quality. However, I think CloverWorks did a pretty good job keeping the action looking slick as always; the character designs look great. The CGI, however, does look messy in parts, mainly in the last three episodes involving the final battle. It isn't the worst CGI I've seen in anime, but it should've been touched up more before airing on TV. There is so much to like about Fate Babylonia despite some issues relating to the sub-par CGI, lack of character development, and the main protagonist is boring. I would love to say Ishtar and her luscious body made all of those cons illegitimate, but I can't be that shrewd even though I want to. It's always a fun ride whenever I watch a Fate anime adaptation, even if it isn't great. There will always be some things to talk about, both the bad and the good. Grade: B+
As far as the Anime goes, the only Fate entries that are considered to be great are, from the main timeline or if being specific, only the ones produced by [ufotable](https://anilt.co/studio/43/ufotable). As for the remaining entries; many people don't even recommend [DEEN Stay/Night](https://anilist.co/anime/356/Fatestay-night/) as it isn't a proper adaptation (or so they say), there's a lot of hate surrounding [Apocrypha](https://anilist.co/anime/98035/FateApocrypha/), [Kaleid PrismaIllya](https://anilist.co/anime/14829/Fatekaleid-liner-PrismaIllya/) has some questionable scenes that only cultured pedos seem to like and many don't even know that studio [Shaft](https://anilist.co/studio/44/Shaft) has their own [Fate](https://anilist.co/anime/21717/FateEXTRA-Last-Encore/). And then there's **Fate/Grand Order**, which is considered to be the only Fate that rivals with ufotable ones. Fate is famous for standing out in 3 elements: 1. Flashy Animation 2. Interesting Characters 3. Philosophical Dialogue And anything like lore, waifus & husbandos are secondary for me. So, let's see how *FGO Absolute Demonic Front* maintained these elements. But let's start by talking about FGO. Fate/Grand Order is a gacha game with 8 singularities (or levels, for simplicity sake) following [Fujimaru Ritsuka](https://anilist.co/character/120734/Ritsuka-Fujimaru) & [Mash Kyrielight](https://anilist.co/character/120735/Mash-Kyrielight) journey. Each level has a different world, characters & themes (supposedly) and this "Absolute Demonic Front - Babylonia" is an adaptation of the 7th level, where we follow our main leads who found themselves in the midst of a war between the King of Heroes who's ruling the last of human race, Gilgamesh and the 3 goddesses, who formed an alliance to destroy humanity, but there's a strange green haired guy in between all of this. Note:- There are 2 Ani-movies for the 6th level and a movie for the final singularity. [Here](https://anilist.co/activity/404519176) are my thoughts regarding the 6th level, if you're interested to check that out before this (It's not necessary tho). Now let's get into it. #
I guess all that money that came from gacha game was well used. Babylonia is animated by [Cloverworks](https://anilist.co/studio/6222/CloverWorks), and this is probably one of their best looking Anime. The animation in those fights is really flashy and is really entertaining to watch.
But apart from animation, what I really like from this Anime are the sound effects. Every explosion sounds different and not just the same bass-boosted sound effect, it's pretty unique. What really stood out for me are the shield collisions. Mash's shield has a different sound effect when collided with different weapons and they took an extra effort to add a sound effect during her bare movement of shield. This applies to other characters too. The sound of marching sandals of [Ushiwakamaru](https://anilist.co/character/144830/Ushiwakamaru) during her grand fight is another thing I found amazing.
As far as the production goes, Yes. FGO is solidly backed up with flashy animation, great sound effects and excellent voice actors. Almost every episode has a fight scene, which never bores the action fans. #
Characters I'll give credit that every character looks really unique in terms of character designs, excluding [Isthar](https://anilist.co/character/135743/Ishtar) and [Ereshkigal](https://anilist.co/character/150759/Ereshkigal). The anime did a fair job at characterization. While they aren't mind blowing or emotionally investing, it didn't really leave anyone out and gave slight depth & enough personality to drive the story and not make it boring. But this carries the same problem I had with UBW. The main characters are bland when compared to all other characters. Fujimaru is a lot like Shirou, a fight-for-justice warrior, who's actually more bland than Shirou. But I guess, that's an unavoidable result when you skip most of their journey. This is the 7th level, the penultimate level means we basically skipped most of Fujimaru & Mash journey through different timelines & possible encounters that changed them. The only possible way to experience that is to play the game since there are no anime adaptations, yet (*Let's hope there'll be one or more*). #
Dialogue This part of the Anime is quite a problem. Most of the dialogue is used for exposition, to explore both the lore and philosophy. Since we basically jumped to the end of the storyline, people who're not familiar with the game and the previous story will have a bit of a hard time making sense of everything. The anime did a fair enough job at not losing the tension at each individual episode but it is a fact that a lot of things were left unexplained. While the exposition dump might bore a few, it won't be any confusing to follow, as long as you've a good idea of how masters & servants work (Though "Grand order" rules are a bit different to "Stay Night" rules). As for the philosophical dialogue, there's something. While most 'powerful' dialogue won't be that powerful, it doesn't really feel pretentious or out of place. It's not boring but not amazing either. Since the characterization is lacking, the dialogue, while sticks to the themes & situation, and while they're well enhanced by the voice actors, they don't feel all great because they somehow couldn't deliver the impact needed to make it feel great or grand. But given the Anime focusses more on the entertainment side rather than the storytelling side (there are clearly more fights than I expected), it did just enough. Not great but not bad either. #
Miscellaneous A few things that are worth mentioning. - Each episode directly dwells into point without wasting any time, like starting each episode at the middle of a fight which can instantly hooks you, rather wasting time to recap a bit. - The anime is really pretty to look. Everything looks bright, even the villains who're actually pretty terrifying. - Like I said in the characters section, every character is given a character arc with a few exceptions who we might see in the next/final movie. And while it initially felt like a waifu collecting game, a lot of female characters suddenly form a pact with the MC (enough to call it a harem) but there are moments where it proved that it's going to be different. - And I still can't believe there's a waifu named "Da Vinci", and a beautiful one at that. - My favorite fight is probably **Ushiwaka vs Morgon** and my favorite character is probably **Ushiwakamaru**.
Conclusion Certainly, one of the most enjoyable Fate, that focuses more on entertainment rather than story. Note :- Idk for sure, but it's better to leave FGO after watching all of the main Fate entries ([Zero](https://anilist.co/anime/10087/FateZero/), [UBW](https://anilist.co/anime/19603/Fatestay-night-Unlimited-Blade-Works/) and [HF](https://anilist.co/anime/20791/Fatestay-night-Heavens-Feel-I-presage-flower/)) for a better understanding of a few characters that appear in main Fate, that also appear in FGO.
