Digimon Ghost Game

Digimon Ghost Game

Sightings of mysterious creatures known as "Hologram Ghosts" have been a popular topic on social networks for the past few years. According to the rumors, several people have fallen victim to these specters. Those fortunate to survive their encounters with the paranormal beings claim that they resembled glitched holograms.

Hazakura Academy middle school student Hiro Amanokawa believes these sightings are merely an urban legend. However, as the incidents start to increase in frequency, he is reminded of the day his father suddenly vanished, with strange digital watches serving as the only relics of his disappearance. Much like the other sightings, what happened to Hiro's father cannot be explained by conventional logic.

One day, when a fellow student in the academy is attacked by a Hologram Ghost, Hiro and his friend Kiyoshirou Higashimitarai decide to look into the matter. Little does Hiro know that this investigation will be their first step toward discovering a dangerous world previously unknown to mankind.

Reviewing Ghost Game is kinda hard, as it's as brutally episodic as it comes. There's some semblance of an overarching story but I wouldn't be surprised if the writers forgot it was there every few episodes. As such, for a series like this it's much easier to focus on the overall quality of each individual episode, and with this in mind I can say that Ghost Game is one of my favorite animes of all time, it surprised me with how dark and scary it could get and had me wanting more with every episode Let's get the bad stuff out of the way first: The ending is rushed to shit, also I think there was 1 kinda mid episode somwhere in the 40s. I don't care Aight now to the good stuff As I said. Ghost Game is episodic to hell and back, there's some idea of a story with Hiro's dad being fucked off to the digital world and sending Hiro irregular messages about his whereabouts and stuff, the series barely cares about this and so should you, and I'm absolutely sure any negative comments towards Ghost Game come from people that just wanted some linear story instead of what we actually got And what did we get? Check the review summary, about 64 short digimon horror stories (the last few eps are the ending). No story drags for more than an episode, all episodes are self contained with at worst a cameo of Blacktailmon to remind the audience that Hiro's dad is still chilling out there. And I swear that every single last episode is better than the last, it's really amazing how they managed to have this many episodes and at worst 1 or 2 that are sorta bad but never BAD bad, more amazing yet that it manages to have an absolutely AMAZING episode every 4 or 5 eps, in terms of consistency Ghost Game never lets down. And even better than all that: Variety. Ghost Game doesn't just have fights against evil Digimon or whatever, it has some, but not all. Some episodes are about helping a Digimon, some are about teaching a Digimon how the real world works, some Digimon are evil, some are misunderstood, some just need a lil help. One episode will have a lil guy haunting a small hotel because he misses the old lady that used to work there, some will have a giant machine freezing an entire area of Japan to help the other ice type Digimon not melt, some will have a yandere plant girl inject herself with poison and rot in front of her lover's eyes to "become more human" Oh yea and I should mention that too: Ghost Game does not fuck around, it does not censor itself or hold back with the body horror. Eyes growing where they shouldn't, bodies twisting into fucked up slugs, the entire world tangling and spiraling, unsubtly implied necrophilia. Ghost Game is a horror anime and it knows that damn fucking well, I'm amazed that they were able to get away with so much and I'm also really damn glad they did But, once again, this is about all I can say, as Ghost Game is about each individual episode and reviewing or explaining each one would be somewhere between a disservice to the show and just stupid. So, in short, Ghost Game has more than 60 fully episodic self contained horror stories regarding maladapted, awkward, scared, or just plain evil Digimons; every episode is better than the last, the main cast is a ton of fun, the insert songs are amazing, and it never holds itself back. It good
