ONE PIECE

ONE PIECE

Gold Roger was known as the Pirate King, the strongest and most infamous being to have sailed the Grand Line. The capture and death of Roger by the World Government brought a change throughout the world. His last words before his death revealed the location of the greatest treasure in the world, One Piece. It was this revelation that brought about the Grand Age of Pirates, men who dreamed of finding One Piece (which promises an unlimited amount of riches and fame), and quite possibly the most coveted of titles for the person who found it, the title of the Pirate King.

Enter Monkey D. Luffy, a 17-year-old boy that defies your standard definition of a pirate. Rather than the popular persona of a wicked, hardened, toothless pirate who ransacks villages for fun, Luffy’s reason for being a pirate is one of pure wonder; the thought of an exciting adventure and meeting new and intriguing people, along with finding One Piece, are his reasons of becoming a pirate. Following in the footsteps of his childhood hero, Luffy and his crew travel across the Grand Line, experiencing crazy adventures, unveiling dark mysteries and battling strong enemies, all in order to reach One Piece.

Wow ,this is my first review that i ever made and my english is quite bad so bare with me there (this review will be utter shit basically) i watched all one piece ova, movies and read some arcs in the manga , so trust me. This review will be some real biased shitty review which will only praise the show (okay prob not but this review will not be good) This review will contain spoilers ~ ''Wealth, fame, power. The man who had acquired everything in the world, the Pirate King, Gold Roger. The final words that were said at his execution sent the people to the seas. Gold Roger: "My wealth and treasure? If you want it, I'll let you have it. Look for it, I left it all at that place!" Men now, chasing their dreams, head towards the Grand Line. The world now enters a Great Age of Pirates!'' ~This is the first thing you hear when you begin watching one piece. One piece follows our protagonist luffy and he wants to find , well, The one Piece! (wow what surprise )So that he can become the kaizoku ou (pirate king) ~What make one piece special is how ____fun____ it is.... The premise is really basic at first , but it gets to something really epic and bigger then first imagined. All of the straw hats are quirky and it is because of their quirkiness that it is so much fun to watch them doing shizz together. All of the straw hats are well developed though they never get much more character development past their arc , i can still say that they are well developed and have all interesting backgrounds. The world building is honestly groundbreaking , because of how it is set , one piece could indeed ''last forever'' without being boring. Each island has their own lore , own people and own special characteristics to them. Each island looks quite wonderful. One piece has also it's own pirate philosophy which is really good and makes pirates more understood overall. ~One piece is also not so serious which is a good thing AND a bad thing It makes the world on one piece more wacky and fun but sometime not serious when it needs to be. Like how one piece is afraid to kill his characters, which, don't get me wrong , you don't especially need to kill your characters each second , but sometimes you gotta do it to make the story more believable.... Like for exemple in the ''big war arc'' when it is literally pirate vs marines. There were only 2 casualties which is quite laughable. Also in the doflamingo arc when nobody dies which makes no sense at all. There is rarely a casualty in one piece which kinda sucks. One piece does have serious themes however , even though they get burried away since a character gonna say some dumb shit 10 minutes later (which is quite fun ngl) . Even naruto feels more serious with it's themes when One piece themes are actually well defined and explains most of how the world works and what the world problem is (aka good world building) . One piece does also have serious moments (mostly flashbacks). They can be really good and can set the mood for a fight which makes it more epic (Especially a final fight) There are also times when one piece also KILLS some characters , and since they rarely do kill a character. The character death is way more significant than in other shows and the deaths aren't ''meaningless'' (Well i hoped they wouldn't be since they no kill nobody). All of the deaths feel important and quite sad (though i never cried ,it was still sad , i mean everybody be crying and shizz) ~! personal opinion but ace's death felt WAY too forced , they could of killed the nibba at any time,marine had way more fo an advantage but nooooooo , let's wait until he is not handcuffed and shit , and then Ace could of went away but this nibba is so fucking prideful ,he died to the most shittiest bait of all history, even luffy said to ace to stop this nonsense , MOTHERFLIPPING LUFFY , ace's death was overrated but it did bring character development to luffy and a little bit of the entire rest of the crew!, without it they wouldn't had the motivation to train and stuff.~ The animation: Is really amazing..... amazingly dog shit lmfao . The fights can still be enjoyable though , because of the epic factor (but they could be way better , look at the one piece movies , especially the 4 last ones ) But the animation is still total dog shit The art: The art changes quite often during the series and they really much deviated from the original art style which was more manga-like , though they went back to the right track in the wano arc The music: Quite good honestly , sad when it has to be , and epic when it has to be (aka the Walk lol) The pacing : HAHHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHA ...... dog shit . While the first few arc are decently paced , at episode 400 or so , the story becomes much slower which you could clearly see in the doflamingo arc. In fact it was so slow that i used to play tetris while binge watching that arc and didn't miss anything important of the story. The jokes: I found them quite fun but i actually rarely laughed at them.But i still Do really like them since it makes the world more fun and wacky OKay so go watch one piece now little boy , if you expect something REALLLLLY serious , dark and edgy. You won't find that here . But if you just want to see the wacky adventures of wacky characters in a good defined world , this is the show for you .Each one piece arc are wonderful and not boring , and even when the stakes goes higher , it never felt forced like dragon ball , in fact , it is quite entertaining(this conclusion sucked but alright , end of review , i score this 90 , it is still a wonderful experience even with all the cons i just presented because at the end of the day , i can't hate one piece... (i can just hate toei instead) Edit:I reread the review and a lot of grammar mistakes were made , i'm actually too lazy to edit them all ,so uh beware

One Piece is a great adventure series, with a lovable cast of characters. This series follows the adventures of a boy named Luffy who's goal is to become "King of the pirates". This series has some of the best world building in fiction, islands and islands packed with information on geography and rich history. A map of the One Piece world can be so detailed almost as life like as a real world map. One Piece has very strong characters and a very strong protagonist, Monkey D. Luffy is a character that has dreams and goals supported with motive. The cast of characters is so grand that characters you meet 100's of episodes ago will return and impact the story in many ways. My favorite thing about One Piece however is the outside interactions that effect the plot, for example characters that are not apart of the main cast like Ace and Blackbeard will have a battle that can determine how the world will progress. Each arc in One Piece gives you a payoff that will leave you fulfilled. Some of the most impactful moments in anime I have ever seen are in One Piece, scenes will leave you in tears and run shivers down your spine. One Piece is a series that has been planned from the very beginning and you can see this with all the foreshadowing that the author leaves in his writing, even moments that are not planned he is able to integrate them into previous plot points and have them connect with something that was mentioned in the previous chapters. As it is a great spectacular series one issue that might be jarring to readers is the length and pacing of One Piece, it is a commitment of itself, watching and reading one piece won't be easy but the storytelling in this series is like no other. One Piece will fulfill anyone need for it has many genres all mixed into one but it doesn't, effect the theme of one piece in anyway. Speaking of the theme, one piece's theme does not change from the beginning of the series to the end, and has a main character that embodies the message of the theme. There is many more great things about the story "One Piece" I do recommend anyone to give it a watch/read I will however recommend you read the manga over the anime due to pacing issues in the anime. Other than that I would give the series a 10/10 just due to the story.

One Piece to this day is undoubtedly my favorite anime of all time. Oda does an absolutely fantastic job at delivering this cleverly thought out story, and manages to keep the readers and watchers engaged 20 years in the making and nearly 1000 episodes/chapters in. When most people think about One Piece, they just think, "Oh Luffy wants to be the Pirate King. What a basic shounen story just like the rest of them". However, the story is so much more than that. The hidden mysteries, the predictions and theories by the community, and the underlying themes of racism, government corruption, political power, and a dominating hierarchy, make the story so unique. These ideas allow the One Piece world to build on itself episode after episode and chapter after chapter. It only keeps on expanding, and remains as one of the kings of world building in the anime community. That's not even considering the connections that the main characters (The Straw Hats), have with the rest of the world and the characters within them. __Every character in One Piece is important.__ Oda is a mastermind at bringing back characters into relevance again and again, and it never seems to fail. For example, there could be a character that is either barely mentioned, or just introduced in an arc in the beginning of the One Piece story and then is forgotten. Most writers would forget about these characters and move on, but Oda is not like that. He will bring back the character into literally the most recent ongoing arc, and successfully tie him back into the story and into relevance. The amount of times this has happened is almost endless, and it never seems to not amaze me. As for the characters themselves, that's a whole new topic. The One Piece universe has one of my most favorite set of characters out there, with all of them having their own unique motives, personalities, and ____backstories____. Ah the backstories, the most beautiful (or horrific) part about each character in the series. Their backstories are what shape their personality and make them the way they are, whether it gives them motivation to achieve their dreams, or drives them into despair and anguish. I would go more into depth about the backstories, but that is reaching spoiler territory. Another thing that I love about One Piece is the discussion about righteousness. The feud between the marines and the pirates is pretty well known throughout the series, where the marines are the "bad guys", and the pirates are the "good guys". However, the idea of righteousness all depends on your standpoint. The marines are not bad guys, they are trying to prevent pirates from ravaging around the world causing chaos, so in their minds, they are the good guys. In the pirates minds, the marines are getting in the way of their freedom and messing with their lives, so in their minds, they are the good guys. The philosophy around righteousness becomes very interesting in the One Piece world from that perspective, and creates a ton of tension between the pirates and marines. As through Donquixote Doflamingo, “Pirates are evil? The Marines are righteous? These terms have always changed throughout the course of history! Kids who have never seen peace and kids who have never seen war have different values! Those who stand at the top determine what's wrong and what's right! This very place is neutral ground! Justice will prevail, you say? But of course it will! Whoever wins this war becomes justice!” To summarize my overall claim. One Piece goated, watch/read it, what are you doing, Jackson, Davis, Will, Jake, you are wrong, goodbye

One Piece is by far the best shounen anime out there that I have watched. But not all share the same views as I do, lets remedy that, shall we? A long time ago, there live a fearsome pirate king who goes by the name of Gold D. Roger. He was able to attain everything. But alas he was captured and sentenced to execution. In the brink of death, he proclaimed that he left the great treasure, One Piece, somewhere in the Grand Line and it is for anyone to claim. This event ignited the Great Pirate Age. In the world of One Piece, there is such a thing as a Devil Fruit. A devil fruit is a fruit bearing some supernatural ability and whoever devours it will get a unique ability however its origins are unknown. There are three types of Devil Fruit, Paramecia, a fruit that can materialize your body into a property. Zoan, a fruit that gives humans the ability of a certain animal, but if its an animal, it gives the ability of humans. And the last but certainly not the least Logia, is a fruit that makes the consumer manifest a certain element. But of course nothing is perfect. If you eat any of the Devil Fruit, you will be rendered immobilize when submerge in the water. And where is our protagonist? The anime revolves around our mentally impaired boy, Monkey D. Luffy or a.k.a The Straw Hat Pirate(title came from his worn-out straw hat that he always have on). When our boy here ate a devil fruit that turns the consumer's body into rubber, he sets off to find Shanks, his pirate idol to return his straw hat as promise and find One Piece to be able to earn the title of Pirate King. Along the way he gathers all kinds of oddballs for his crew, The Straw Hat Pirates. Now how exactly is One Piece different from the hundreds of shounen out there. Well, it isnt. It is exactly what a shounen should be. It follows the lose-train-win formula. So how is it any better? Bingo. Because it incorporates the formula into something fresh and simple. One Piece arcs can be surprisingly good. There were even times that I was shocked at some plot twists and revelations. It has a very interesting setting as well. And what might that be? The World. The whole world is One Piece's oyster. It varies from vast, scorching deserts to cold snowy mountains, the concept of adventure here is well defined, it really makes you feel that world isnt small after all. And that my friend, is what an adventure anime should really be. One Piece knows how to pull it off, be it comedy or serious, and believe me, One Piece knows how to be serious when it needs to be. But it never forgets its roots at the same time, and that is the emphasis of friendship and the bond of Nakama/Friends that glues the whole crew together. Most shounen anime's suffers immensely from originality. Because of this, it is hard to distinguish characters from each other, especially in my case as I have my fair share as an otaku. And most of the characters in em lack depth and substance, its hard to remember a character when you know very little about him. But One Piece is immune from this disease. Each character of One Piece is very... say....unique that you'll find it hard to forget about them. They all have their individual motives, strengths, weakness and even quirky traits. Plus, each individual of the Straw Hat Pirate Crew has an immersing past, that'll be hard for you not to get delve into. And they all have a certain role, not one character gets overshadowed by the other. They do meaningful interactions with each other. And regardless, that each member is vastly different from each other, they all formed a formidable bond. Even the by-passing characters are memorable. In contrast to the majority, I find the animation to be creative. Just like how the characters are different and distinguishable. Unfortunately people see it as something of a turn off, and quickly judges One Piece as something infantile. I am not going to lie. One Piece will not go beyond the borders of a shounen. It is not mature. But thats not the point here. An anime doesnt need to be ripe to be good. It just needs to be entertaining. Although I do enjoy a deep, thought-provoking anime, an anime doesnt need to be complex to be satisfying. It can be anything, as long as it offers gratification. And One Piece does. Another potential problem is its popularity. Most people consider mainstream anime's to be somewhat of a failure because of its targeted demographic, and that is everyone. "If its able to attract toddlers, then it sucks" that seems to be case for most people. Some people neglect any anime that is able to summon countless little children in its area, thus abruptly convicting it as over-rated. Heck, some people even constantly hunts threads, just to be able to crack Narutard jokes off some newcomer. Do not judge One Piece from its fans. Judge it for what it is. Do not be mistaken, I am not saying One Piece is for everyone. In the end, its all about taste. But if your have any hint of love for shounen surging in your veins, there is no reason for you not to watch this, not one bit. In short, the plot is very promising, the main cast is several but well flesh out, the battles are very diverse, and engaging and the comedy doesnt get old, even after few hundred episodes one piece is truly a master piece Regardless of this, the level of enjoyment I receive from One Piece is immeasurable. And sometimes thats all you need. Scratch that. Most of the time that's all you need.

To give you all a sense of my love for One Piece, it is currently 2 am as I am writing this review; listening to 'Gold and Oden', my favourite OST from the show. I jumped headfirst into One Piece as a lonely 16 year old, three years ago in 2018. With life passing by me, all I wanted was simply a friend or two to keep me company during the summertime. I remember looking up "Is One Piece for children?", always having the impression that the show was a shounen for kids. Soon enough, I found that despite how lighthearted the show appears to be, it is often a masquerade for a rich, deep and real story; a fever dream of a journey: one whose destination is the treasure of One Piece. However, this alleged pirate treasure is not what the show is about. The show begins with a boy whom I saw myself in, Monkey D. Luffy. A young rubber man with one goal to become the King Of The Pirates. He sets out to sea on a tiny boat with no navigation skills, letting the wind take him where it pleases. Immediately the theme of freedom is introduced. To live freely is an important notion in this world - though there are those who oppose it. Luffy is persistent about recruiting crewmates who he sees as friends in his eyes. Each one is fleshed out and given a backstory to break, for the first time, the heartwarming (and arguably boring) idea of blissful, childish adventure. Some of the backstories will make you cry, others will make you laugh, some may even make you do both. This applies to every single prevalent character in One Piece - each one that holds meaning to Luffy's journey. Friendship, this is another theme. As the show continues and world begins to grow, the friendships among the crew will do too - you will feel a part of them. Because the series is so long, there is plenty of time to end up loving each person on the ship. This is where the anime hit it home for me. I found something in One Piece that I wanted so badly and for so long, a sense of having a friend. This is to say that if you're struggling with something personal, perhaps a mental challenge to live out your greatest dream, the storytelling of this show will have something to help heal you. It will have something to put a smile on your face. It's not often that a skinny rubber boy dreams of being the greatest pirate of the world after all. Now why did I mention in the headline that the show is imperfect? To be honest with you, the anime, in terms of quality, oscillates very often. You may have very wonderful animation and well-paced episodes at the beginning of one arc, and terribly paced, terribly animated episodes in the middle of the same or another arc. One Piece can often feel like one giant filler, where new content lasts only about 10 out of 24 min per episode. This is mostly due to happen with long intros and constant recaps/flashbacks. I personally would watch One Piece on and off for 2 years before I finally caught up, having to take 3 months off from time to time due to how bad it sometimes got. But let me assure you, this was all part of the process. I took my time with the series to really get to know the world, and it paid off. The reason this show is imperfectly perfect is because despite all the sludge, when you get past each arc you will end up being in love with the journey. Oda's (the creator of One Piece) storytelling __prioritizes__ journey over destination. This is where the most powerful theme comes in. _Nostalgia._ A feeling like no other - I'm sure you know this. You sit and ponder upon your past and occasionally miss old times. You reminisce positively on the happiness of your childhood; we all secretly do. There is something about One Piece that gives you a true sense of time. It is an inexplainable emotion... but those moments you barely remember from those first few episodes? The overwhelming feeling of nostalgia will come over you as you look back upon those times. You will feel like you have grown into and with the world. Nostalgia will flood your eyes as you reflect on how far you've gotten, and how close you may be to the end. Moments set 20 years ago in the past will genuinely feel far away, like a dream. This is the one mysterious part of One Piece that you simply cannot put into words - you have to experience it to see it. It's a wonderful feeling, not being able to understand your somber happiness. This concludes the review of why One Piece is so close to my heart. It is a fever dream with a journey you continually hope to never end despite how imperfect it may be. But one day, it will end... and we will all cry and laugh together as it does. So, join us on this one of a kind story if you haven't already. Thank you for reading.

One Piece is by far my favorite anime, manga and work. Even so, it is impossible to deny that the anime does not stand out as much as the manga, despite, in the current arc, Wano, the animation, rhythm and all the others aspects are impeccable. However, the anime adaptation of One Piece, sins at various times, especially after the timeskip. Very slow pace, which makes many people (like me, a while ago) discouraged from watching the anime, as these rhythm problems are really boring. I don't think anyone should watch One Piece for that reason, because as I said, even with all these and others problems, it’s certainly the best work I’ve ever seen. Incredible and diverse characters, racism, transphobia, corruption and other very delicate subjects being treated in the work, making many people open your eyes on these matters, which are of paramount importance today. Other problems like unnecessary sexualization of female characters, as well as doing them always the same way and being weaker characters that practically always need help, it also bothers me a little. It's okay for you to want to play characters to a certain standard, but playing them as helpless girls is really unnecessary. One Piece still has a lot to learn in these aspects, because it’s something that’s really not really cool on the show. But I believe that Eiichiro Oda is increasingly learning from mistakes and learning new things, and in the future we should see incredible, strong, powerful and of course, beautiful girls too. As for issues like transphobia and racism, I think One Piece really opens the eyes of a lot of people on this subject, because, like it or not, many people still don't know how much it can affect people. Creating transsexual characters, gay characters, and using metaphors for a way to combat racism, even if only within the anime, is something that Oda does very well. It's amazing how he manages to create cool, captivating, powerful characters with all these characteristics, making everyone (or most people), both open their eyes to these subjects, how much to encourage those people who always suffer from these abuses and prejudices, to have more courage to move on, and to see a character you love fighting these things, certainly should give a very great mood for people who are fans of One Piece, and who suffer that kind of thing. I must thank One Piece for being such an incredible anime, it really motivates me to live. One Piece it certainly changed my life, making me know things I didn't know, made me motivated to continue to fight in this anime called life. Thank you, One Piece. PS: My english is bad, forgiveness if some parts got confused :)

If you are thinking of watching one piece then here is a quick reason why I think you should. First, I wanna say that one piece is not my favorite anime and I'm not one of those people who thinks that everyone should force themselves to watch it to be a "real anime fan" or anything like that. but I do really like the show and don't want people to be put off by the length. if you decide to watch One Piece then don't feel a need to watch it all in a few months. of course if you want to, be my guest, but watching even just one episode a day is a good start. then if you want to watch more than once and end up liking it watch us much as you like. Also, people say that it takes till episode 500 or something to get good, which is half true. it doesn't take that long but there is a certain point quite far into the show that makes the show from just "good" or "pretty good" to amazing and is more consistently enjoyable. I say this because in the early few hundred episodes there are a lot of really good parts that make you really love the show but it isn't as often as it is later on in the show. all of this being said I think that the first arc that really gets you into the show and gives you goosebumps because of how good it was for me at least was the "Arlong Park" arc. this is the arc that makes Nami (the crew's navigator) want to join them and is the first really good relatively full-ish length arc. I believe it starts with episode 30 and ends at about 40-50. If you aren't liking the show and aren't interested in the show after that then the show probably isn't for you. If you just know that there are some more slow parts but the show only gets better every arc and I suggest you keep watching even if only one episode every day or so until you reach a point that you really enjoy (which may be right after the "Arlong Park" arc). that being said don't force yourself and don't feel pressured to watch if you don't want to - Rating of individual Aspects of "One Piece" - Characters (10) - The characters in One Piece in my opinion are one of, if not the best part of the show. They are what make the show so special and what makes you watch for as long as you do, and I think that every single character involved with the story, even the antagonists, are written extremely well. - Story (9) - The story of One Piece is very well written. It is written with a clear goal in mind but has many obstacles in the way that lead the crew down paths that you think are too much but they always find a way to persevere and come out on top, well almost always anyway. - World Building (9.5) - The world of One Piece is incredible. the way that Oda (the author) introduces you to the world from the beginning so well but also leaves a lot to reveal about it later while leaving small hints along the way until he finally reveals more and more is very well done. there is no confusion as far as the world goes, but it still leaves a lot to be discovered is one of my favorite things about the show.

~~~ ____There are minimum spoilers! (including images)____ ~~~ I do not know how to start, but I'm going to say that One Piece deserves its actual popularity and more. Perhaps it is a ____VERY LONG____ show (+950 episodes), the story keeps getting you. Let's divide this review in some aspects: Plot, World Building, Characters, Animation, Music and Sound Effects. __PLOT__ Basically, the story is about Monkey D. Luffy, the main character, who wants to find the One Piece, a legendary treasure that only one person could find it, that's the Pirate King Gold Roger, whose last words, before he was executed by the World Goverment, revealed that One Piece could be found in the Grand Line, kicking off the Pirate Era. This can sound like a boring story with nothing else to show, but in fact it shows a lot of everything. Besides this, an event from the first episodes can be retaken 200 episodes later, you cannot skip something that may look trivial at first, because Oda, mangaka of One Piece, knows how to make this perfectly. ~~~ img220(https://anitokio.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/02/one-piece-pluto-tv.jpg) img220(https://i.blogs.es/1d05a3/one-piece-netflix-mexico-latinoamerica-redoblaje-onepiecenetflix/450_1000.jpg) ~~~ __WORLD BUILDING__ In my opinion, One Piece has the best world building in anime/manga I have ever seen. Let me explain this, everyplace in the story has it's own culture, backstory, desing and something that makes them different from the others. There are different types of islands, different races and creatures, different seas and a lot to show. Not everything revolves around Luffy, but the world advances without the need for him to participate: while he and his crew are chilling, in other parts some relevant characters are fighting, others are commiting big crimes, others are in war and so on. Definitely many events are happening at the same time. Also, you can find a lot of mysteries that to date have not been solved or are in process, and others that you will solve as you progress through the story. ~~~ img220(https://jonahwritesdotblog.files.wordpress.com/2020/12/water_seven.jpg) img220(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/EM1RwvIXYAASn1m.jpg) ~~~ __CHARACTERS__ A very important part of the show are the charaters. In one hand we have Luffy, a strong, charismatic and silly, but somewhat intelligent, boy who does not care about anything else besides food and adventures but, when it is neccesary, he will risk his own life in order to achieve his goals and protect the others. On the other hand we have the Straw Hat Pirates, a crew full of weird and funny characters who have enormous respect for their captain and share a tragic backstory, each of whom have an important role in the crew, from cook, doctor and navigator to carpenter, swordsman and musician. I'm not going to describe them because that would be full of spoilers, but I can say that all of them, although they are not perfect and have their flaws, are also well developed. Apart from them, the villains are generally good, some are better than others, but they also have their own ambitions and desires, like the main cast. Another strong point in favor of this anime are the side characters, I do not have enough words to describe how good are most of them, you should go watch One Piece to meet that incredible characters. ~~~ img220(https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2020/05/One-Piece-Charactes-Feature.jpg?q=50&fit=crop&w=960&h=500&dpr=1.5) ~~~ __ANIMATION__ At the start it is just a simple animation from the nineties (and it is not that bad) but, as you progress, it improves enormously, even in the current arc it is in its maximum splendor. Toei Animation is the studio in charge of animating this story and they do an outstanding job. Although there are scenes that are very badly animated and they tend to put a lot of filler as with any long anime, I cannot thank enough for the time that the studio has taken to do everything possible to deliver quality animation in a weekly anime, my respects. ~~~ img220(https://i.ytimg.com/vi/08fW79GM43s/maxresdefault.jpg) ~~~ __MUSIC AND SOUND EFFECTS__ I love all the openings in One Piece, all of them are unique, they have awesome music and video. That is my personal opinion, but most fans agree with this point, you can hear the music without watching the scenes in order to not getting spoiled. The OST are also fantastic, but very repetitive, the studio uses the same sad OST for that type of scenes and another OST for most of the fights, this aspect is somewhat limited, but I am not complaining because I still love them. Sound effects are also very nice, here there is a great variety of them to enjoy the show. ~~~ youtube(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HRaoYuRKBaA) ~~~ ~~~ __(ONE PIECE OPENING 1)__ ~~~ __CONCLUSION__ Despite being a very long show, One Piece truly shows everything that someone could expect from a show of this length: a simple plot but full of content in a very big world, relatable characters, a great experience with the animation and music and more. An experience everyone should try.
Most importantly The MVP of this arc is Brook. He did so much important thing in this arc. End of the arc Luffy and Sanji got new bounties and Luffy become The Fifth Emperor. Levely We saw a lot of important thing in this arc. Imu Sama, The Big Straw Hat and something happened to Sabo but we don't know it right now and we learn that The Warlord System is removed. Wano Country Wano. A masterpiece. The animation is perfect. The fights, Oden back-story, The reunion The Straw Hats, Wano's beauty, All of it perfect. This arc is my second favorite arc. It's still ongoing but the end of it I'm sure that is is going to be a number one. That's it. If you're not watching One Piece, you're missing a lot. It's a Masterpiece. Don't scared the numbers of episodes. You will not regret and most of the people say it will be better after 300th episode or 400th episode but they wrong it is perfect from the start. You must watch it right now. Thanks for reading.
PROS: There are so many positive things that I have to say about this show that I don't know if I can think of all of them. WORLD-BUILDING: This show has some of the best and extensive world-building systems I've seen in an anime. Its crazy how from such an early stage, the crew goes from a floating restaurant on the sea to a dinosaur island, to a fricken island in the sky, and eventually end up on a massive water elephant (you get the point). The thing is, these places aren't just randomly thrown in to make this world seem abstract and crazy, but every location the crew goes to, has some sort of significance to the plot. For example, people seem to think that Sky Island is a useless arc, but they seem to overlook the fact that the King of Pirates went there on his own and even included a clue on how to find the one piece. The cool thing is, we don't figure this out until way down the line when on a completely different island. This just goes to show that everywhere the straw hats go has some important significance to the story. It's amazing how many different places, people, and things, Luffy comes across on his journey for the One Piece and we have the great world-building of this show to thank for that. img(https://i.imgur.com/4NPK07S.jpg) img(https://i.imgur.com/whLlI4z.jpg) MAIN CAST: The Strawhats are easily my favorite group of characters ever. They each offer a unique personality and they click very well together. Luffy is my favorite shonen MC, and honestly my favorite MC ever. I love how he is the perfect embodiment of freedom. As we've seen each crewmember have originated from a backstory where they were trapped by something and Luffy came along to take them to sea. A common theme in the show is freedom. The idea that pirates are the freest out on the sea is what Luffy strives for. In essence, the strawhats are a crew that strives to bring freedom to all. On another note, I like the relationships between each of the crewmembers. The scenes where we see the straw hats together and interacting with each other are the best moments in the show. Each of the members of the crew has a long term goal in mind that the audience gets to follow on the way to Luffy becoming the King of Pirates. Being able to root for such great characters is what makes this show so much more enjoyable.Can't wait to see how each of the Strawhats story ends because Im sure it will be glorious. img(https://i.imgur.com/3aJUZHj.jpg) img(https://i.imgur.com/uYCXIOB.gif) PLOT: The One Piece story is amazing. Along with the endless worldbuilding of the show, everything is intertwined. Everything has meaning and purpose. All the characters are well written and contribute something to the plot. Without a doubt, One Piece will have one of the most amazing finales when Luffy finally reaches the last island. I find it amazing that Oda has been able to produce something of such great quality for nearly 1,000 episodes. The plot is interesting, engaging, yet mysterious and keeps the audience thinking. img(https://i.imgur.com/DD01emM.jpg) CHARACTER DESIGN: At first, I always thought the characters in One Piece looked comically goofy, but I've grown to love the look of the characters. The outfits of the strawhats change after every arc to keep things fresh. That's something that not a lot of other anime does. Usually, characters will wear 1 or 2 different outfits during the entire show and it can tend to get stale seeing the same outfits. I love seeing what new fits the characters will wear when new arcs roll around. img( https://i.imgur.com/H7Ljkrl.jpg) img(https://i.imgur.com/zZ7Yl0v.jpg) POWER SYSTEM: Although I like other power systems more, that does not mean that One Piece does not have a fantastic one. We were introduced to devil fruits which is one aspect of the OP power system. I like how they are split up into 3 different categories and there are vast amounts of devils fruits with all different unique abilities. The cool thing about the devil fruits is that they tend to fit the personality and ideals of the character to which they are assigned. Luffy's power, the Gumu Gumu no Mi, gives him rubber man abilities. I think this is very fitting for Luffy because whatever comes at rubber bounces back, and Luffy himself is known to not let things change/intimidate him and he always bounces back just like his devil fruit. Another aspect of the power system is haki. I think haki is a very simple yet nice touch. img(https://i.imgur.com/bLbdsud.jpg) CONS: (NOT REALLY CONS JUST THINGS I THINK CAN IMPROVE) PACING: I'm aware that episodes are stretched out to avoid filler, but this got annoying when binge-watching the show. Some of the scenes in the show tended to feel like they were repeating themselves and felt unnecessarily long. I think Dressrosa, although it had some of the best peaks, is the worst-paced arc in the show. There would be moments when fights would be dragged on and on and it felt like it was never going to end. Whole Cake Island also felt like it started to get repetitive hearing Big Mom Scream "WEDDING CAKE" for 30 episodes started to annoy the hell outta me. There are other instances where the pacing of the show frustrated me but I don't want to rant. I'm pretty sure the manga fixes the pacing but still, the pacing is the biggest problem with One Piece. VILLAINS: Some may think that one Piece has the best villains in the big three but I would have to disagree. I think the villains are too similar and it's hard to sympathize with any of them because they are just pure evil. In almost every arc, Luffy goes to an Island somewhere on the Grandline, that is run by some Tyrannical Ruler who has a superiority complex and views all the civilians living on the island as scum.(Or someone who is trying to take control of an island and become a ruler) In other words, most of the villains are just power whores who love to dominate the "weak". This in itself isn't a bad theme, but I feel like it gets used too much throughout the major arcs in the show. I don't love how the actions of the Villains are so predictable because their personalities and ideals are so predictable. We also know Luffy always has to fight them and he's always gonna beat them so why not make the villains at least a little different in their ideologies. That being said I think my favorite Villain is Do-Flamingo because he has the most fleshed-out and interesting backstory as well as a fitting devil fruit ability. I would have like to sympathize with him more but I just couldn't because he is pure evil similar to most villains in the show. I know this may have made it sounded like I completley dislike the villains in One Piece but thats not true, I still find the show enjoyable regardless of how repetetive the villains are and still find the villains to be badass. img(https://i.imgur.com/IuDlRxW.jpg) THOUGHTS: One Piece is without a doubt one of the best shows I've ever watched. Don't let the large episode count intimidate you because this show is so enjoyable that the episodes feel like they fly by. I caught up to the Wano arc, and even though I had just binged 970+ episodes, I wanted more. You will get attached to the characters and find that the One Piece world is the best one there is. I don't believe anything is a true masterpiece but I would say One piece is when it comes to pure enjoyment. I cannot wait to see the conclusion to this "goat" of a show. If you on the fence about watching, just do it. img(https://i.imgur.com/I43PfhP.gif) "Kaizoku Ou ni, ore wa naru!"
One Piece is a show I avoided for a while due to the length of the series. I highly regret not watching it sooner as I would've been caught up by now without a doubt, but I'm happy I started and I still have plenty of time to catch up. I do understand how people may find it hard to get into One Piece, for starters it's one of the longest if not the longest shonen anime out there, exceeding over 980 episodes at the time of typing this, nearly at 1000. The episode count is a big factor as to why people back out of watching One Piece and it's completely acceptable as some people simply don't have the time. There are also other factors such as the pacing not being the best, once again as it's nearly 1000 episodes, you can expect some choppy pacing or long and/or boring arcs (personally this was a rare occurrence for me, though I can't speak for everyone), which can lead to an average person to just dropping the series since they don't necessarily want to watch something boring, also giving them a bad impression. On the flip-side, I can confidently say I was one of those people for a long time, not wanting to watch all because of the length. I highly regret not starting when I was recommended by a friend, it truly is an amazing show. I find myself staying up all night watching episodes seeing the troubles our protagonist(s) face while on their journey. I enjoy the worldbuilding aspect as there's always so much more than what you can see going on. Several things are currently airing that was foreshadowed as early as some of the first arcs, which I find incredible. The attention to detail and plot makes the anime stand out in that standard, I've personally rarely found any plot holes, instead, I find myself remembering something that happened 150+ episodes ago and realizing how important and relevant it is now. Instances like that occur more than you'd think and it's amazing in my opinion. The protagonist characters we're introduced to make it very easy to stick along with the story and follow them on their adventure, whether it'd be their jokes, interesting character development, or the grueling fights amongst their adventure, nearly all of it is entertaining and I find my self watching dozens of episodes without even realizing it. We're given a permanent cast that everyone can enjoy and laugh at, even in dark times. As for my personal opinion on One Piece, I love it. I've said this countless times though I wish I started it sooner, now I'm behind and all my friends are miles ahead if not already caught up. I love the character development and watching our protagonists grow both mentally and physically whilst enduring multiple hardships across hundreds of episodes, the fights are amazing and so is the world-building + plot. I cannot emphasize how many times I've stayed up to as late as 5 AM grinding an arc waiting to see how it ends, experiencing multiple twists and turns while the story continues. At the end of the day, One Piece is not perfect, but it is without a doubt enjoyable for anyone who loves shonen. If you've been pondering about starting One Piece, this is your call to action, go watch. I promise it's not a waste of time as I too used to be someone who always thought it was a weird anime and too long for my liking, though now I'm the complete opposite.
One Piece is my favorite anime, I haven't watched too many anime but enough to give a valid review. The characters, storyline, fights, world-building and mystery are some of my favorite aspects of this show. The cast of characters is second to none, nearly 1000 episodes of character development and its clear that not one of the characters is the same as when they were first introduced, none of the important characters anyway. Take the straw hats, the main characters, they all had there developments some happenings as early as 30 episodes in and some getting their big development 800 episodes in. The development isn't the only thing that makes the characters some of the best ever written, they all have their own personalities, Luffy is probably my favorite of the lot, he is, of course, the main character and is always a joy to have on screen, he is hilarious and awesome at the same time and that goes for so many others as well. At first glance, the One Piece storyline is quite basic, a kid who wants to become the strongest, we've all seen it, but as you go on it becomes clear that so much more is going on, countries being overthrown, a world in the sky and in the sea (that has incredible potential for theories), corruptness in the government, after having weekly episodes for over 20 years, there is close to nothing we haven't seen. The fights in One Piece are some of the best you'll see. My personal favorite is Luffy vs Katakuri, but Luffy vs Lucci, Luffy vs Doflamingo, ~! Luffy, Zoro, Kid, Killer and Law vs Big Mom and Kaido !~ , Luffy vs Crocodile, I could go on forever but my point is that fights in One Piece rarely disappoint. The world-building in One Piece couldn't be any better, they've given us just enough information to be able to show us the world and the basic understanding of what's going on as time goes on, but they are holding off on information that isn't vital but it gives a lot of room for the imagination for example a new thing that has come up ~! there is a whole race that we have never heard of that lives on the Red Line, and its relevant to King !~ or Imu-sama and their connection to Joy Boy, Luffy, Blackbeard, Shirahoshi and Vivi. The mysteries brought with the world-building gives life to hundreds and thousands of theories that float around the internet which provides life outside of the anime itself. I have one complaint about One Piece and its only relevant to the anime and that is the abysmal pacing, possibly the worst out of any show I have seen, if you aren't binging it or keeping up with it weekly, it can really be a pain which leads some people to start reading the manga which is understandable. The pacing doesn't have to do with the source material so the actual story of One Piece isn't impacted whatsoever and can be enjoyed for almost anyone. For people who want adventure or action this is the anime for you and if you think 1000 episodes is too much, shut up, it isn't enough.
# ~~~~~~~~~____ONE PIECE ANIME FULL REVIEW____~~~~~~ ~~~ after catching up with the One Piece Anime about 5 months ago, I finally decided to write a full review of it, to give it the appreciation it deserves. and also if I'm being honest I wrote this because today -the day I wrote this- was the day I discovered the "write a review" bottom on this website, fair enough, no? and yes, you're gonna find another somewhat similar review under the Manga section since they are the same media. but before we get started: THIS IS NOT SPOILER FREE. it does include EXTREMELY minimal spoilers. now enough and with no further ado lets get to the actual part. One Piece as you know is created by Echiro Oda. it started releasing chapters in 1997 and got its anime adaptation in 1999. this Anime is currently one of the most popular shows of all times in Japan and is ridiculously popular outside of it, that once you get into the Anime field you would immediately know of it. so the easiest way to describe this by saying that its a cinematic masterpiece which is an understatement, however it does have flaws, which are minimal by the way. but I'm not gonna be biased and will run over them throughly. this passage will contain the following: 1. __Plot__ 2. __Main character__ 3. __Side Cast__ 4. __World Building__ 5. __Power System __ 6. __Animation and Soundtrack__ ---- ~~~__PLOT/STORY LINE~~~__ oh well well this gonna be interesting. so im here to seriously erase the concept that One Piece is about a teenager that set to the sea to go on a treasure hunt and nothing more. well truth to be told its mainly about that but we cannot ignore the fact that it holds a way deeper meaning and seriousness. I mean sure it has its goofy moments but it's far than just that. simple as that. the plot goes into depth to talk more about politics, anti-capitalist, anti-police and anti-military themes, racism, the importance of freedom, strength of will, slavery issues, fighting for acceptance, evil-ruling, tyranny, absolute injustice, and different definitions of justice from multiple characters’ points of view, god complex and extremely high self esteem. it also brings to light topics such as ancient history and culture. advanced inventions/developments, searching for self-worth and adapting to new colors of life. It also explores basic thematic topics such as friendship, adventure, camaraderie dreams and immense effort. easily a 9.5/10 plot if not 10/10 tbh. --- ~~~__MAIN CHARACTER~~~__ img3220(https://i.imgur.com/FXwjGeY.png) Monkey D. Luffy, the main protagonist of One Piece, or rather the guy who's story is being told. also known as "Straw Hat Luffy" now I won't go in so formally that you think this is a wikipedia because its not. luffy is a great protagonist, although hes quite a typical shounen MC and at the same time he’s so different. I mean hes kinda dumb, has a dream that he needs to achieve, seeks relationships, and is obsessed with a specific food. these are quite the typical if you ask me personally. But at the same time, Luffy is the Anti-hero. Pirates are the bad guys in the One Piece world, and the marines are supposed to be the justice and the honorable savers. however the fact still stands that Luffy isn't a bad guy and hes not a good one either. __"Heros are cool and all, but I dont want to be one." -Luffy. __ Luffy is selfish, he would save countries just for one person, and also wouldn't give a damn if a country was falling apart if he didn't have a connection with it. he would go through a lot of fights and/or make decisions for his own sake without looking at the consequences or without giving a single thought what his companions might want. He doesn't care most of the time, no backstories would interest him, no reason of war or tyranny would make him look over his shoulder and hell with it, not even his own father would interest him. well honestly as long as the topic isn't Shanks-related or isn't related to his crewmates/brothers well-being then he doesn't give a damn. but then again these traits are what makes him so special and so different. it’s just who he is and these aren't bad qualities. obviously. we stan our careless king. However, looking at the other side. he would go through crazy lengths for his friends, he would help others blindly for the most trivial reasons; such as buying him a bento. he also has great dignity and wouldn't brag about his achievements no matter how amazing they are. he doesnt thrive to be the strongest, he just wants to the person with the most freedom out there. he has morals and ideals of his own that he actually doesn't share and sometimes are weird and that makes him cool. he encourages people to be who they want to be and helps them too; biggest example Momonuske. he also forgives quickly, so quickly if you ask me. He is so crazily confident, which isn't the best thing out there because no Luffy you can't beat Kaido at your level in punk hazard. In addition to that, he knows what he wants, he knows exactly what he wants and works very hard for it. I’m sure you noticed, but he also has nick for making friends so fast. Race? hell with it. Must be a human? no bruh. A talking skeleton? please join my crew. An extremely weird looking tree? best friends. A cyborg? thats the coolest thing out there. That’s all with me ignoring the fact that he also he has his serious moments and his goofy moments. not to mention that the guy is a fighting genius. you get the main idea. Luffy is an easily 9/10 MC. personally he is my second favorite character in the entire show. after Sanji that is. --- ~~~__SIDE CAST~~~ __ img6220(https://c.tenor.com/Ibngs2XbNaUAAAAd/straw-hats-toast.gif) want to hate characters to the bone? you got it. want to love characters to death? absolutely. want to pity characters? sure thing. want to relate to some? hell yeah. want to cry over a few? sadly, you very much can. want to seriously bond with the characters? absolutely One Piece is one of those animes that have a very wide variety of characters as you can tell. of course, naturally, it would have many characters since its long, its a given thing. but the thing is, the characters as long as they're relative to the story they are very greatly good and likeable. the main cast for example: the crew, each one of them gets there own little arc or major one to enforce their character with a heart wrenching backstory. oh and let me add that the character development is insane. One Piece offers you all of the following: Baddass moments, heroic ones, a great show of emotions, determination, dignity, deliberate trash as shit personalities and heart breaking moments is all available for each of the mildly relative characters whether they're a villain or a good character. and by the way the villains later on are literally chef's kiss. it has one of the best ones in the entire anime world. And oh lord the characters design, truthfully there a few that are really good and some that look like shit. Cannot be considered an issue though. well moreover, there are few characters that are juts thrown in for absolutely no reason and has no relevance, quite a drawback. example: Foxy. side cast is inarguably a 8.7/10 ---- ~~~__WORLD BUILDING~~~__ img4220(https://blue.kumparan.com/image/upload/fl_progressive,fl_lossy,c_fill,q_auto:best,w_1024/v1486856089/water_ibvys2.png) img3220(https://i0.wp.com/i.pinimg.com/originals/4f/4a/05/4f4a05ba49f432eb69057920c8679661.jpg) the world building in OP is the greatest ive ever seen in any work fiction including fantasy books {and for the record I read a lot of these} its truly unrivalled. its not like our world or any other fictional world in the slightest, its more complex, and more adventurous. Although fun fact, few islands are based of actual locations/cities in our world but better. Most obvious ones are Alabasta that is based off Egypt. Water Seven that’s based off Venice, Italy. And Dressrosa that was inspired by Spain. Moving on, it also contains different races of creatures that isn't only human and this, for a fact enforces the world building in a way. before going down into the different races im going to list down all the outstanding and the highlighted features that makes the One Piece world different than others. we have: 1. __Fishmen Island that is located on the sea bed of the red line.__ 2. __sky islands; islands that are located in the sky, built on a special types of clouds.__ 3. __islands thats one half is all flames and the other half is icy cold with heavy snow and ice.__ 4. __islands that are based on magnetic felids.__ 5. __ones that are full of thunder.__ 6. __the elephant island.__ 7. __and etc..you get the idea. __ now going into the different races category: 1. __Fishmen island : mermaids and talking sea stars __ 2. __giants __ 3. __"skypieans": people who live in sky countries with noticeable wings __ 4. __Lunarians, a race thats on the brink of extinct with only one member left. they can regenerate fire.__ 5. __dwarfs.__ 6. __minks: furry animals that has the intelligence of humans.__ this sums it up I believe, world building is 11/10 and I don't make the rules. --- ~~~__POWER SYSTEM~~~__ what makes the One Piece power system special is its simplicity and effectiveness. It gives us good explanations that we can actually easily understand (I’m looking at you Hunter x Hunter) moreover it also offers us great fights that we really do be on our seat edges the entire time. img4220(https://steemitimages.com/DQmWhyFmx1G1MKN5HKihBY8vVhNou88ezLxrA71HKZ9wHBS/7.jpg) it consists of the following: 1. __devil fruits; includes awakening.__ (good enough to survive the first part of the Grandline) a. Paramecia type: actually this is really random, like it can alter your body to be rubber, you become a pockets human or you can produce soup of your body. pretty much random and fun. b. Logia type:a fruit that makes the consumer manifest a certain element. ex. becomes fire human or a sand human. c. Zoan type: a fruit that gives humans the ability of a certain animal img3220(https://www.teahub.io/photos/full/330-3305337_luffy-and-doflamingo-haki-clash.jpg) 2. __Haki; the only counter attack power for the devil fruits also its the power of the will.__ (necessary in the new world for captains and big shots) a. observation haki; also advanced observation Haki b. armament haki; also advances armament Haki. c. conqueror's haki; advanced conqueror's haki. 3. __fishmen karate: a fighting style exclusive to fishmen and the very few humans who learned it.__ 4. __Rokushiki; focuses on certain aspects of physical perfection in material arts and 5 other types__ -these are the major ones but there are other things as swords play, kicking, science way of fighting. -the fights are amazing I’m telling you. note: attaining the powers of the Devil Fruits does not come for free, the user is bound to sacrifice his ability to swim to gain the new powers. actually this shows that we should sacrifice something to get a greater thing. deep. no? pretty decent huh? 8/10 --- ~~~__ART AND SOUNDTRACKS~~~__ img3220(https://64.media.tumblr.com/97cad68b7e53d93a16ce21cad61fdc1f/a9abc3fad8855c98-05/s540x810/31ece3e09ac0fb4cd8f7cbbcfd6d6309f73b1d3f.gifv) although, the animation wasn't the best you could see at first, but its excusable since in the late 90s and early 20s the animation wasn't really good at a time in general. recently though, with keeping in mind its weekly, its been flaming. the pacing, to put it blandly, is shit. excusable though since the anime shouldn't catch up with the manga, but I swear there are MANY better ways to make the pacing better, and more enjoyable, like 50% of the episode -especially the recent ones- is a bunch of fodders and unnamed characters making weird expressions, Running around for 20%, yelling for no reason 10%, same unnamed fodders being dumbfounded by the Straw Hats' strength 5%, and pretty much less than 10% actual manga content. and lets not forget: "Mugiwara no Luffy is a really dependable man! im so glad we have an alliance." - said by the useless Hyogro of the whatever, every single fucking episode since his introduction soundtracks in One Piece are special and unique, they add a great hype to the actions and emotional moments. but there's better. animation as in 1999-2016: 5/10 as in 2017-recent: 8/10 Soundtracks: 7.3/10 pacing: 1/10 --- ~~~__MAJOR BAD POINTS__~~~ look here, I wont go over the basic complaints people have over One Piece, such as the pacing or the filler or the fucking unnecessary fan service thats ridiculously exaggerated especially in the anime, or really anything related to the studio that animated it, what I mean here is problems within the plot itself. (theres not much, theres a few that I feel the need to speak of) well, starting with the worst thing One Piece handles is: The deaths. from my point of view, deaths are what enhance a story and make it much better, even if I liked the character, I believe deaths are such necessary element in any piece of fiction thats falls within the fantasy and supernatural genres, deaths builds up the tension and raises the stakes, without these, well the action feels flat. but in over than ONE THOUSANDS episodes we had a SINGLE major death, like cmon give me a break, even though I was immensely sad over that death, I like that it happened, otherwise its arc wouldn't have been legit the best in the story. again, deaths give more meaning to a story, it touches more deep topics especially if it was handled well, but we got two in one piece that were handled greatly. so if I were to count all the deaths of minor characters that ultimately nobody cared about, they would make about 5 deaths. thats a very big draw back. Oda cant kill a pig for God's sake. okay another drawback thats also related to the deaths category: The fake out deaths. the legit worst thing in One Piece, like don't give me hope and then tell me the character is alive after getting literally bombed up or was struck with over 10000 volts of electricity and yet somehow is alive?! I give up man. I wont rate this category since its not really an element but rather its an opinion, it will just affect my overall rating. --- ~~~img380(https://i.pinimg.com/originals/0e/35/19/0e35190ec810daec1b9f56b7d0b03cf3.gif)~~~ well thats pretty much it, and if you actually reached here, woah! you're amazing. thank you for reading, it feels good to know that the seven hours I spent on this weren’t just a waste. ;) overall rating: 9.2/10, the manga is easily 9.5/10. but honestly recently I've been watching the episodes out of obligation and on speed x4 because I know what happens and because the pacing is horrendous. I cant give it a perfect score. ----
DISCLAIMER: I've only completed around 1/3 of the show, I finished the Enies Lobby Arc and can't bring myself to continue the show for now, so please consider this while reading my review. Only a few years ago, when someone mentioned One Piece be it online or in real life, most people usually joked about it and referenced its extreme length and didn't take it seriously. This was until a few years ago, specifically during the start of the pandemic when people we're locked in their homes, when recently it has become immensely popular and probably one of the most notorious shows. This is around the time I decided to start it out and see how it was. Disappointingly, I can not say that it lives up to the hype. First, I'll go over some of the positives of the show: Firstly, I'd like to say that some of the characters on the show are extremely iconic and likeable, and definitely have left an imprint on anime culture more than characters from most other series, this is mostly due to their iconic designs and personalities, this is especially shown on characters like Luffy, Zoro, or Chopper who most people can recognize as characters from One Piece even if they've never watched the show. Another part of the show that is well done is the worldbuilding, I'd say that its some of the best in any anime, every part of the world feels so beautiful and every location stands out and is unique in its own way. Lastly, I think that the general themes and messages of the show are very pleasant and enjoyable, it expresses messages about freedom and living for yourself among other things and I personally can get behind that a lot. Now, for some of the negatives of the show: First of all, obviously the pacing of the show is terrible, even early on in the show, where the arcs are much shorter than the arcs later on, everything still feels incredibly drawn out. And the portion of the show that I've watched so far is the most lenient and normal when it comes to pacing for the rest of the series, which is a part of the reason why I stopped watching for now. The fact that there there is an arc later on which is literally 100 episodes is genuinely baffling and absurd. Secondly, the battles themselves aren't good. Most things aren't well animated or smooth, its usually attacks being used back and forth like an RPG, and not things that are entertaining to watch, like hand to hand combat. It's usually just the bad guy attacking, Luffy getting hit and powering through it and hitting the enemy back, and this goes back and forth until the enemy loses usually. Similarly to the rest of the show, the fights are awfully paced as well, to the point where it makes any fight in a decent newer Shonen look like a godsend. Another thing that bugs me is the shows humor, while it may appeal to some people just based off of the slapstick stuff which can be funny to some people just based off how goofy it is, it just gets old after hundreds of episodes, and I think that goes for most people, since a lot of these jokes are really repetitive. While I did mention that some of the characters are iconic and distinctive, this has its downsides sometimes too, where the characters are too distinctive and different, by this I mean basically is that they have one personality trait. Like for example Nami's entire personality most the time is that she's greedy and rude and that gets insanely old after hundreds of episodes. Lastly, one small issue I have is when moments are too deep for no reason and seemingly out of nowhere. A good example of this is when Choppers upset that he has to join the Foxy pirates during the Long Ring Long Land arc and then Zoro just calls him out for literally no reason and its chopped up to be this deep moment about Zoro's manliness solitude, and dedication to his crewmates, but to me it just seemed like Zoro was being a hardass. With some of the annoying characters and horrible pacing it genuinely makes you wonder how so many people love this show so much unconditionally and consider it a complete 10/10 masterpiece when that obviously isn't the case. It genuinely feels like people feel obligated to like this show and put it on a pedestal when they don't have to. I have many friends who watch this show and it when they talk about it it genuinely seems like a chore to me, its like they're forcing themselves to watch it so they can say they've watched it and pay their respects to the 'Greatest Shonen'. In Conclusion, One Piece isn't a horrible show, it has a decent somewhat likeable main cast, a really well made world that has been built over the years, and has some of the most iconic characters in anime. Though despite this, the pacing and annoying characters can completely obliterate this and make the show almost unwatchable past the first few hundred episodes. If you haven't even watched an episode of One Piece yet even after its resurgence in popularity, don't even bother at this point, there are many other shows that are much more worth your time.
~~~____One Piece: A quick review____~~~ One piece is one of those shows that many watchers or readers tend to skip because of its length. While I was once one of those watchers, I took on the challenge of catching up to One Piece. While it wasn't exactly an easy thing, I did have a lot of fun going on this adventure with Luffy and his crew. ~~~____Character Writing is top of the line____~~~ One of the many things about One Piece that makes it part of the big 3 is the character writing. Originally throughout the first half of the story, you would assume there is very little character development or story to tell. However, after a certain point you quickly realize how each of Luffy's crew members and himself evolve over time and I am still learning more about them each and every episode that goes by. The characters are not overshadowed by other things in the world, they help drive the narrative and scene forward through every piece of dialogue and every fight they encounter. Not to mention the comedic timing and chemistry many of the characters have as pairs or in a big group. Very few shows can accomplish such a hard task, but my boy Oda did it. ~~~____World Building____~~~ One of the things I admire about One Piece is the world building. The world in the beginning is made to be at first, very small. However, after the first arc, East Blue, you finally get more knowledge of the whos and whats in the world Oda has created. One of the most fascinating things about the world of One Piece is simply the history and the world government. While the OG Pirate King, Gold D. Roger is a huge part of this history, it isn't as widely known till later in the story. Most of everything in the world of One Piece is all connected in one way or another. However, one of the biggest things about the world building is the immersion I experienced when going through the show the first and only time. I felt like I was on the adventure with the crew and watching them from the sidelines as they battled their way to the top. The comedic moments also hit during break arcs where there was more lighthearted storytelling and managed to get a pretty good laugh out of me. ~~~____The Music____~~~ Listen, I have listened to many anime OSTs in recent years, but oh my god does One Piece hit a different level. Each character has their own theme, each instance is given its own music (even if reused) and still is made to sound incredible. Overtaken is one of those songs that hits so hard in every walk to, or a surge of power coming through for the straw hats to fight, it all creates the tone of "you fucked up". Each character theme is memorable and tailors in when it sees fit in fights primarily or witty shit talking to the villain. ~! One of my favorite themes aside from overtaken, is simply Gear Four's theme. That theme hits different and makes Gear Four's entrance in any major fight that more menacing. When that theme begins to play Luffy says "Gear Fourth!" you know shit is about to go down and how bad of a day that villain is about to have. !~ ~~~____Story____~~~ Without talking about spoilers, One Piece's story is primarily focused on a legend that the main characters all help drive forward. One Piece's first lines of dialogue don't disappoint. They set the stage for what the main premise of the show is. "Who will be the next pirate king? What is the One Piece? Who will find the One Piece?" are all questions that are still yet to be answered. While that is the main story, there is other stories branching off of the first one that still tie into the main storyline. From the secrets of the World Government to the Revolutionary Army it is no wonder that One Piece's story is so complex, yet intriguing. ____Bottom Line____ One Piece is a show that doesn't take itself lightly. From simple beginnings to many advance powers and story telling later on, I highly recommend this to anyone. There is a reason One Piece is called Peak Fiction, and I urge you to go on the journey I also did. You won't regret it.

#~~~ __MY FAVOURITE ANIME __~~~ ~~~⚠️This review contains minor spoilers so don't read if u don't want any spoilers⚠️~~~ ___How I built courage___- So I was browsing my youtube when I saw a video called the greatest anime. I had recently started watching anime so I thought I should watch the video. I watched it and got the basic idea of what one piece was. That guy explained it so beautifully that I had an urge to watch it. When I saw the amount of episodes it has, I almost fainted and then I slowly and gradually started calling one piece shit without watching the anime. Some days later, I went to my cousin's home. He was watching an anime. Guess what he was watching, One Piece. He didn't know that I had entered the room, I sat behind and watched the screen of his pc for some time. The animation and the fight blew my mind. I was like, I AM GOING TO COMPLETE THIS TODAY. My brother then noticed me and told me everything about one piece. That is how I was able to build my courage to watch such a long anime as one piece and trust me, It was worth it. ___World Explanation___- So the world of one piece, It's actually quite amazing. People saw that one piece is just pirate shit but if u watch it, you'll understand why One Piece has such a big fanbase. One piece has pirates but theres too much more to it than just pirates. Like see the tags of this anime on anilist. This might have the most tags than any other anime has. __ _Story___- The story is what you can truly call a masterpiece. It's about a boy names Monkey D Luffy who has a dream of becoming the pirate king. He is basically trying to find the gratest treasure left by the previous pirate king Gol D Roger. He is a type of guy who just enjoys life. He loves niku (meat). The story of one piece revolves around this guy. The story progresses in such a way that you start falling in love with all the new characters introduced in the story. Even a perv like Sanji can make you cry. The story is just beyond the limits of any anime I have watched so far. ___Character Designs___- This is the best part. The thing I like the most about one piece is the design of characters. Every character has a decent backstory. The backstory makes you feel connected with the characters. Every character in One Piece has been written beautifully by Eiichirou Oda. The characters are what makes this anime so good. The character development through time is also very good. The antagonists, also, are designed beautifully. ___Why I love One piece so much___- The main reason I love One Piece is that I am emotionally connected to it in a way. One piece literally made me cry over a fucking boat which is why I consider it the best anime. Most anime make you cry but only for the living things or characters but one piece made me cry for a boat. That was the best experience I have ever had in my entire life. It felt like heaven. When it comes to action, One piece action scenes are just superb. The best fight for me was Luffy VS Katakuri. That fight gave me goosebumps continuously. I got literally 25-30 goosebumps just watching the whole fight. One Piece is good in emotional scenes, comedy, action and even drama. It's a full packed adventure and I hope that you'll watch One piece after reaading this review. This is my first review, so if I did anything wrong, feel free to dm me. Thnx to everyone who read this review till the end.

One Piece is an easy Masterpiece IMO . Story/Plot - One piece has the best plot I have seen , it includes some outstanding story arcs like Marineford , Enies Lobby and Wano . It is surprisingly very consistent with its quality too . It has other elements like Mystery which adds intrigue . One Piece has the best mysteries in fiction like the one piece itself , Will of D , Vegapunk ,etc . Characters - One Piece has a top tier protagonist who is Monkey D. Luffy . Luffy is a very complex character and a very well fleshed out one too . I have heard people argue he has no development but the only thing I want to tell them is that he doesn't need development because he already is the Perfect Protagonist for his narrative and any further experiments with his character will most likely make him one of the worst characters . One piece might have the best side cast in anime/manga because of many reasons . First reason is the the how each character has back story and motivations which adds to their depth . Second reason is how geniusly Sir Oda handles all characters , example Bonclay , we never thought he would be further relevant to the story but he was , One Piece has 900+ characters and handling all those characters is Nothing short of a Miracle . One piece has a good set of Antagonists but they only need more depth to their characters by showing us their goals and motivations which I think they will definitely get by the end of the story . One Piece has great antagonists like Doflamingo and Katakuri too. Worldbuilding - The Lore of One piece is huge . One Piece is considered the King of Worldbuilding in Anime/Manga . It has Awesome theories on its mysteries . One Piece’s History is a Mystery too because of the Void Century and the rest of the History unknown to us currently . It has great Geography too . Theme - There exists several clearly outlined major themes in the series-Dreams,honor,freedom,friendship,ambition,adventure etc.The series handles these core themes of the story with fine elegance and nuance.The major theme of One piece highlighted in almost every arc is dreams.The dreams being a motivational factor for each straw hats and not only them but even the antagonists and minor characters in the story have their moment of realization and a feeling of pursuing their dreams.Almost every arc in One piece is the stepping stone for the characters pursuing their dreams with ‘the power of freindship’.Many people diregard One Piece as childish cause of the cartoony eccentric artstyle in addition to the comedy the series beautifully presents.But underneath the surface, One Piece is an extremely dark manga with lots of untense themes.Slavery,racism,discrimination,oppresion,hierarchy and an insight to the dark side of human nature.You’d laugh the most and cry the most watching One Piece and you think this is childish, hah.Oda’s artstyle that hides the context beneath the surface so well it’s the reason why it appeals to all ages.Kids can laugh and enjoy to their heart content of how silly it is,teenagers can have some phenomenal action,and adult folks can find the deeper meaning behind the story.

#__ Beware of Spoilers__ # If you like anime that has a lot of: action, emotional scenes, serious charachters, goofy, charachters, and ecchi moments, then One-piece could end up in your list of favorites. ° I hope that Yamato joins the crew, she is pretty strong and smart. She hates her dad. ( Understandable. It ain't pretty when you are in some kind of prison when you're little and keep asking for freedom) ° Some of my Top favorites are Zoro, Sanji, Oden, and Luffy. ( But I also like the others in the crew) Doctor chopper is quite smart and is a great guy that helps friends and might even help enemies when something terrible happens. ° Sometimes there are " girls nights ". ( For example when Nico Robin and Nami are alone, but it doesn't take long) ° At the moment there is a large battle ongoing that is between 2 of the strongest pirates vs the protagonists and friends. ° There are plenty of wholesome moments. ° If you like cute things, then you might notice that someday. ° Great songs. ( I remember that when I was younger I enjoyed a lot the song of brook, a guy that remained all alone for many years until he met special people.) ° I like that a very strong pirate inspired a kid to become the next king of pirates. ° I hope to see Buggy encountering Luffy again in the future. Buggy was one of Luffy's earliest " big " enemies. ° There are many gigantic animals In the sea, land, etc. Sometimes you see some epic fights between Good guys vs Those large animals. ° I wonder sometimes if Eneru will someday return again, he was quite dangerous to Luffy's crew, if Luffy didn't have the resistance against Eneru's power, then things could have gone very different. ° " Remember to follow your dream ", that is what Luffy's crew are doing. ° In my opinion this anime / manga is worth 9.0 /10 or more. ( Understandable if you disagree) ° The latest episodes showed a bit of Shanks past, but he wasn't the main protagonist in that story. The great oden was. ° Oden kozuki deserves a lot of respect, he helped many people, he risked his life more than needed for his friends. ° There are more than 900 chapters and episodes, don't give up , you might reach the others someday. ° Every main protagonist has a past that is interesting, especially if you can understand them. ° Some kind of large monkey fighting 2 strong Dinosaurs, and when it almost fell down it kept trying to hold them down for his friends, it truly deserves respect. ° If you like dragons you might notice them someday, one larger than the other. ° Giant people are also a thing, some can even easily defeat those giants. ( One small human being can even create a Giant hand) ° One of big mom's strongest fighters is epic, I wish he joined Luffy's team. ( Able to see a few moments In the future, and stops a sister from doing 2 vs 1, I like these kind of anime scenes.)

[Spoilers Warning] [One Piece Fanboys Warning, Feelings May Be Hurt] This is likely to be my longest review, which makes sense because this is the longest anime I'll ever watch. I'm currently 1000 episodes in, watching the Wano arc. So I can for sure say I'm allowed my opinion, and I realise many people won't like it, because this is one of the most beloved animes ever made. I will say, though, this COULD have been one of my all time favourite animes, and I'm going to tell you why it isn't. Firstly I want to talk about the positives. Absolutely awesome world building, my favourite parts of One Piece are usually when they're about to go to a new island, and we're going to discover a new culture, and have some sort of adventure with some new people, in which one of them may join the crew. Two, I love some of the characters they've given us, there are some brilliant characters who I really enjoy watching, and I'll give a rundown of my thoughts on characters after my third point. My third point is that they have some great comedy between the characters, and this especially stands out when they're travelling around before they reach their destination. The sound is generally also good in One Piece, and I'll give a little shout out to the animation. The animation is actually good in my eyes, that goes hand in hand with some good fight scenes, and I mean early One Piece I still liked the animation. It has a really friendly feeling to it, and in more recent episodes it has become super smooth at points. When I seen the arrival of Kaido as a dragon, the animation of his body moving, slinking, and coiling towards them, was well done. So for this part, I'm going to do the main cast, and put them into a tier list, with a little explanation of why they're there. Then after I'll talk broadly about the entire cast. (Once again, this is just my opinion, I know people will disagree) Main Cast; A Tier - Robin, Nami, Chopper B Tier - Zoro, Usopp C Tier - Jimbei, Sanji D Tier - Luffy, Franky, Brook So, Nico Robin for me works well because she's nothing like the rest of the crew, there was a running gag for a long time that she was the only one on the crew who didn't partake in their, well, gags. So her joke is that she doesn't do jokes. I also love her humour around just saying really terrifying, or messed up things so nonchalantly. Her mature demeaner is also a nice break from having the others constantly acting like they're 10 years old, only acting with their first instincts without any thought. Nami for me is just an all around cool character, and I'm gonna shock you here, but I've enjoyed her fights, because she actually has to use her brain instead of just "I'm gonna endure all your punishment and outpunishment you!". Chopper grew on me, and he's the perfect mascot for the crew, I enjoy his humour and general being. One thing that ties all these three up for me, though, is that they all have great character building, interesting backstories, and I got emotionally attached to all 3 of them because of it. Now, Zoro was A tier for me, for most of the show. I mean, he's a badass with 3 swords, in my opinion he has some of the very best fights in the whole of the show. He went down, because he doesn't really do anything? Like, he never has an input on what they're planning to do, I don't think we have even seen much of his backstory, and we don't really know too much about him as a person at this point. He had an awesome moment at the end of Thriller Bark, but honestly, what does he even add to the crew in the last 500 episodes? I know people will say "he's their best fighter", well, that's not true, Luffy is, Luffy defeats every bad guy, so he's clearly stronger than him. Usopp grew on me a LOT, I hated him for so long, but I did gradually come around. He would be A tier if he had some sort of character development besides changing his clothes? He's still the same cowardly type we met in episode 10, as he is now in episode 1000. Jimbei I'm indifferent to, and Sanji I just purely dislike because his fighting is boring, the amount of screen time we get of it zoomed in on his cigarette as he either lights it up, or just stands there, could probably fill an arc of its own by this point. I also am not a fan of the fact it took them near 850 episodes to give us his backstory. I do like when he says Robin and Nami's names, but other than that he's just a more overbearing Brock from Pokemon. Franky is just boring to me, and I'm not sure of the point in Brook? I liked him in Thriller Bark, but kinda wish they never added him to the crew. After the 5th time of him making the exact same "I can't believe my eyes, oh well, I don't have any yohoho" joke, it gets stale. And that's all he has to offer it seems? Luffy. Many people absolutely love this guy, and honestly, I have no idea why. He as a main character is truly boring, and far too much of the show revolves around him. I don't like his fights, stretching is just a boring power, he does the same old "I like food" joke that we've seen a thousand times in other anime. He doesn't progress as a character, at all, he is still the exact same person as he was in episode 1. Before fire fist dying, he didn't even have an interesting backstory, all it was is "he met a pirate called Shanks, and promised to him that he'd become King of the Pirates". Luffy is one of my biggest problems with One Piece. To compare what I think is an actual truly good front character, with Luffy, let's talk about Naruto. Naruto had crazy amounts of development as a character in that show, and they did it in less episodes, too. He went from being a stroppy, dumb, antisocial, kind of an ass, to being a super outgoing, popular, thoughtful person, who even would think through his fights before just rushing in like he would at the beginning. Luffy doesn't showcase this at all, no matter how many times his crew have almost been killed, he doesn't think, ever, his head is empty, he see's an enemy, and he just rushes in not knowing what their power level is, or their devil fruit ability. Moving onto my favourite characters across the whole anime. Fire Fist Ace, Nico, Chopper, Nami, Aokiji, Fujitora, and Law. This isn't to mention all the other awesome characters they have Doflamingo, Kuma, Crocodile, Eustass Kid, Caesar Clown, Akainu, Kizaru, and here's one from the memory banks, Kuro. I bet I have even missed out a bunch of other cool characters. My problem here is that, with the longest running anime of all time, 1000+ episodes, and some of these awesome characters have BARELY appeared. Are you kidding me? We've seen Shanks far far more in flashbacks than the actual anime, the guy who essentially started off One Piece by inspiring Luffy, and we NEVER see him. Aokiji, holy fuck has there been a better introduction to a character in an anime? Guy is just asleep, chilling. Fucks them up with ease, and then rides his bike across the ocean. But then guess what? We don't see him again for another 200 episodes, and even in that, it wasn't in any meaningful way. After Marineford, again, he's gone until a cameo appearing at the end of Punk Hazard, and we haven't seen him since. What in the fuck is with this writing, instead of using the already build world of great characters, they just throw them in the bin to carry on making newer, less interesting ones like Carrot???? How many characters do they introduce, and then focus on, just for that arc. During Arabasta, we met Vivi, which I thought was not a bad thing, because at this point we only have 5 Straw Hats, let alone a world filled with characters. After Marineford, we have so, many, characters, we do not need to move to new places, and spend 30+ episodes on backstory for some new characters that aren't fresh or interesting. Dressrosa brought in a bunch of them, the king, his daughter, her husband amongst others that I just didn't care about. Overall, my problem with their use of characters is mostly just the lack of them being actually used, and constant focus on newer characters when we already have 50+ we can play around with. The lack of character development isn't huge, but I'd like to see at least one or two changes in some people that isn't just appearance. Why hasn't Luffy learnt to be smarter when wanting to fight someone after he watches his brother die, and he thought his crew all died to Kuma. Why hasn't Usopp gotten a backbone after going through so many wars and fights. Why do the animators think giving Nico and Nami bigger boobs, and more cleavage, is character development? Also, Fire Fist Ace should have been the main character of One Piece, he had far more charisma, seemed far more intelligent, and actually was interesting to watch in a fight. Now, let's talk about the arcs (I told you this would be a long one). I don't wanna write a novel, so I'll be as concise as possible here and straight up say, that they made, FAR too many episodes for some of these arcs. Arabasta is the first arc that made me wanna quit watching because of how long it was, little did I know, 38 episodes would be a short arc in One Piece by the end. Although I did enjoy Skypiea, I don't know that it could have been a lot better having less than 42 episodes. Enies Lobby the same with 46 episodes. 51 for Fishman Island, 46 for Punk Hazard, 45 for Thriller Bark. And now here comes the killer, 118 episodes for Dressrosa. This arc here is the one that absolutely burned me out watching this show. Really, 118 episodes? My god, I'm getting Vietnam flashbacks thinking about this arc right now. 95 for whole cake island. And now we're currently 114 episodes deep into Wano Country. I realise people will say, "but Seth, the more episodes, the more we can get backstory for characters, and build an emotional connection to them", but do we really need that many? I'm gonna list off a few anime here which absolutely had people invested in the characters and what happened to them, and they did it in less episodes that all those arcs I just mentioned in the last paragraph. Steins:Gate - 24 Death Note - 37 Cowboy Bebop - 26 Neon Genesis Evangelion - 26 Heck, to make my point, just look at all the movies that build a world, build characters, give backstories and manage to have it all play out with people being emotionally invested in only 2 hours, which is let's say 4-5 episodes worth. Now, I'm not saying all animes should be shorter because of this, I'm merely pointing out One Piece has had far, far more than enough time to have every single character fleshed out by now, and we could have progressed the story a lot more than we currently have. Naruto is one of the greatest animes imo, although it went on a little longer than I thought it should, and I got a bit bored of it towards the end, at least in those 766 episodes we know so much about every character in that show. We know the entire history of the the world in Naruto, we seen every person have a fight with every other top character, we have seen some characters completely change through their development on the show, we seen all of it play out and finish in 766 episodes. By the 1000th episode on One Piece, we still don't know anything about the 100 year period in their history, we only JUST learnt about Gol D Roger, we still don't know too much about characters past like Zoro who have been in since the beginning of the show. We still don't know what the One Piece even is, we have 0 idea on how strong Shanks is, we have rarely seen all the top characters fight with one another, and I'm just not sure what we've been watching in replacement of all of that? New shittier characters than we already have? Focusing a tonne on characters that will be gone when the arc finishes and they leave the island? Spending half of the episodes doing flashbacks of previous episodes? (Naruto did this a lot as well). I will say, I enjoyed Thriller Bark even though that was 45 episodes long, but I felt that more of this was valuable, because the new character that we were introduced to, and had a bit of focus on for a few eps was Brook, who actually ended up joining the Straw Hats. It felt like this arc actually had a good focus on our already established crew, and we didn't get half of the arc showing us flashbacks of a character that we don't care about. Longer arcs can be good, but in One Piece they oftenly aren't imo, because they don't use the already built characters in the world that we care about, and they waste a tonne of time on pointless shit, stretching out the arcs needlessly. So, lastly, I'll do a quick run of my favourite arcs from first to last. Marineford - Most people's favourite, and it's obvious why. We had a bunch of big boys fighting it out, and I loved the dynamic of Garp being between his career/upholding what he thought was justice, and his family. Most importantly, this was only 33 episodes long. Only one downside was that only Luffy from the Straw Hats was in this arc, none of the others made it there, so we never got to see them in action versus the Navy's strongest. Still, overall a great arc though. Also, I wish they made Ace die on the podium, rather than make him look dumb as fuck by basically escaping, but then going back to be killed just because Akainu said "ur mom gay". Really did my boy dirty, and made Ace look stupid at the end there. Sabaody Archipelago - Introduced so many good characters, an arc that turned out huge for the story of One Piece, introducing the worst generation, Kuma sending everyone away, leading to a two year time skip, and we seen a lot of moving pieces within' the story in only 21 episodes. Maybe the biggest shock was that we seen the Straw Hats get dismantled so easily by Kuma, after watching them win almost all of their fights up until this point. It was the first time we seen the usual happy-go-lucky Luffy in a state of despair. Water 7 - One of the best countries they visit, unique, really cool theme, and nice bit of mystery with a fun twist in there. Really good setup for Enies Lobby, and most of the episodes were centred around Usopp, Nico, and Franky, three characters who are actually in the Straw Hats. Usopp vs Luffy was hard to watch, but a part of me wanted Usopp to get a reality check, and that he did. Him watching them sail away from him actually had me feeling for him, even despite Usopp's many flaws. Arlong Park - The arc that changed the vibe of the show from 'tehehe', to 'oh fuck'. This was one of the first credible threats to the Straw Hats, and I felt Nami's story, as well as her character, were told really well here. I sympathised with her immediately, and it made you want to see Arlong get his ass kicked. 14 episodes and it's still pretty memorable even now, nearly 1000 episodes later. Enies Lobby - Good arc, what might be the most heart wrenching moment of the show when Nico screams "I WANT TO LIVE!". Absolutely beautiful, and I loved that. I found most of the episodes that focused on the people moving through the city quite boring, but when they finally catch upto Nico and CP9, everything from there is great. People might ask me why it's not ranked higher, and that's because I felt Water 7 was enough build up, and then the train ride there. When we arrive, we still have to wait another 10 episodes for them to get through the city, at this point I'm blueballed. I realise people may say it's only 10 episodes! But that's over 3 hours of waiting for it. I'm being picky, I know, but that's just how I felt watching it, extremely bored until they stand on top of the courthouse, and what a moment that was. Thriller Bark - I know a lot of people don't like this arc, but I enjoyed it quite a lot, and it ended with one of the most memorable moments in the entire show. (Zoro-Kuma) It stands out because of the slight gothic-horror theme it sets. Robin rejecting Franky's robot transformation was also hilarious. It was good to see them all fight together as a team here. Little Garden - Very short and sweet, they only needed 8 episodes to tell us an interesting story of these two giants, that would be used further on in the One Piece timeline, and we got to see some fights involving Baroque Works. Skypiea - Best part about this arc was the journey to getting there, not knowing if the sky island even existed, and the mystery around all of it. It does get very slow when they arrive, and outside of Eneru, it was a bit too easy for the Straw Hats to beat everyone. Impel Down - A great prelude to Marineford, and it was really helped with the tension built during this arc. We see some old faces, as well as new ones, overall decent arc for what it was. Buggy actually became a pretty funny character in these episodes. Drum Island - Only 14 episodes long, but we get Chopper introduced, as well as a new snowy country, and Chopper's background is pretty good to watch. Wapol played a good villain, and we luckily didn't get 20 episodes showing us his backstory. Punk Hazard - Again, I know many don't like it, but I actually enjoyed it for the most part, glad to see Law involved as he's one of my favourites, it serves as a decent build up to Dressrosa. Syrup Village - This here is where I started to actually enjoy One Piece, the only thing I can say about it, is that I wish Kuro wasn't beaten so easily, I genuinely thought he was a pretty badass villain, but Luffy makes him look like a chump. Wano Country - Currently slogging through it, again spending an absurd amount of time on the history of this country, and the Akazaya Samurai. The flashbacks of Gol D Roger were great, but not enough added to the main story, or the main characters for the amount of episodes it's gotten so far imo. Zou Arc - Met some of the animes worst characters, the mink are really uninteresting, and annoying at times. The country itself initially was really cool to see, it was awesome to wonder about what happened to it, how it got there, and why it's on the back of an elephant, but that all went to shit through the reveals and characters who took up screen time. Orange Town - Not much to say beyond Buggy can be funny at times Baratie - Honestly can't remember much about this arc, I think I kept falling asleep during it until Zoro is defeated by Mihawk, that had my full attention, but by then the whole arc was almost done. Arabasta - The first arc that made me consider dropping One Piece, just because of how long it was, and how little we were progressing in learning, well, anything. This entire arc was about the civil war in Arabasta, and that story alone wasn't interesting to me. Fish-Man Island - I can barely remember anything about this arc, to be honest Dressrosa - Started off really well, Punk Hazard sold us a picture of what it would be like, and how strong Doflamingo is. We met some interesting characters like Senor Pink. But overall it was far, far too long, and the emphasis was most of the time not on the Straw Hats, or the main story. Really enjoyed seeing Law's history with Doflamingo's brother, and it pisses me off that Luffy beat him, Law should 100% of been the person to defeat Doffy. Fujitora was a really cool addition to the arc, and the show as a whole. But yeah, 118 episodes was really hard to get through, when it could have all been said and done if you took out the pointless shit, in less than 50 episodes. Whole Cake Island - Decent start with them travelling around the small islands and running into Pudding, but got boring very quickly with Germa who are lame as all hell, and then the proceeding hunger pangs rubbish where we had to listen to Big Mom saying "cake" about 100 times. Absolutely nothing added to the main story through these 95 episodes. We learned about Sanji's upbringing, and that's all. To try and sum it all up as concisely as I can. The biggest problems for me is firstly Luffy as the main character, he never changes, he always has to be the one to beat the bad guy, so I have to watch his overrated boring fights, and he never really seems to think. Secondly, that they overemphasise on side characters or mini-stories that won't effect the main story, or main characters in any meaningful way. Later on in the anime they need to stop introducing more and more new characters, we have tonnes already that are cool and interesting, use them more. No arcs in my opinion should ever go over 100 episodes long. Naruto managed to wrap up the entire Shinobi Fourth War arc in 53 episodes, which is their longest. One Piece needs to stop taking the piss by having multiple arcs run over 50 episodes. For anyone who's read this entire thing, I hope you enjoyed it, and if you didn't and think most of this was a bunch of shit with a few nuggets of truth, then you truly know my feeling towards One Piece!

This is going to come off as less of a review and more of a gushing as to why this series is my favorite piece of fiction. Its hard to sum up in any short amount of time, and just like the show, I'm probably going to be long-winded about a lot of things discussed here. One Piece is a stunning adventure from the outset. I find the hook to be brilliant, I wanted to know right away what the most powerful man in the world possibly could've left behind at the end. The introduction to Luffy is wonderful, whether through the anime or the manga (they start in different places.) Every single character Luffy interacts with in the early days of the series serve to show the kind of person he is. HIs confidence and optimism are incredibly infective, and I find myself wishing I could see life through the surprisingly mature yet uncompromisingly fun main character. The first saga of the show mostly serves as a setup and establishment for the first crewmates Luffy meets. This is to be expected, but still really smart. Each character is ridiculously well designed, and the art accentuates their fighting style and personality. The trip to the Grand Line itself is already an incredible adventure, climaxing with the stunningly well-written Arlong Park arc. This is where the series really shows its emotional chops for the first time, and its very effective in doing so. After this point, the Loguetown arc gives some incredible world-building and (along with Zoro's confrontation with Mihawk) shows off just how insignificant everything we've seen so far is compared to what's to come. The islands that exist in the Grand Line are the gold standard of how to set up a fantasy world, and this is because everything, from the currency, to the allegiances, to the people's view of different factions, __just makes sense.__ All are informed by the world around you, and if you don't understand how something works on an island, you can bet it will be shown to you in a fascinating way. This extends to the political struggles that come with a world dominated by pirates. All decisions made have ideologies informing them, there's disagreement and conflict among those political factions, and constant suspense as the powers that be make decisions that heavily effect our cast. Most of the series serves as a mission to grow stronger, help people around them, and most importantly, ____to enjoy living.____ It's through these separate arcs of the story that the cast gains new abilities, growing at a very satisfying pace. Though each major arc has a formula it follows, there is enough variation between each story and more than enough variation between each island to keep the story super fresh even after 1053 chapters. Lesser stories would not be able to keep your attention pointed at the world this far in, and yet here I am, stricken by the idea of what awaits the crew ahead of the current island. It also helps that every single crewmate is so lovable. I legitimately get a pit in my stomach trying to rank them, because it feels wrong to say that there are any that aren't absolutely amazing. I value what each one contributes to the story greatly. They all play off each other spectacularly well, and almost any combination of two characters would without a doubt lead to a very entertaining interaction because they just mesh so well. Although this series undoubtedly has problems (especially in the anime,) I can't act like I don't love almost every episode of this series. Its just special to me, and I love it for its flaws as well as its breathtaking successes. I love this story with all my heart, I can't even critically analyze it without just saying everyone and everything is amazing. I'm so incredibly lucky that I get to read it week to week before it ends, and I'm thankful it came to me when it did in life. My life changed a lot over the year I watched it, and the biggest thing I took away from it was that ____there's always more to see in the world. Approach it with optimism, and never forget to enjoy living.____

Lets get this out of the way at the begining. The anime adaptation of One Piece is slow, the padding in some arcs has a real detriment to the enjoyment of the show. My Score is 89/100 for this reason. If you want the true One Piece experience then please read the manga. Its faster paced, quicker to get through, and is one of the few manga i'd consider 10/10. The anime still keeps all the amazing aspects of the manga and that is gonna fill up most of this review. One Piece both the manga and anime are special pieces of media that will transcend era and time period. The impact and legacy of One Piece cannot be understated as within the next couple years it will become the most purchased graphic novel in history. Also,for any terms used that aren't generally common knowledge for anime fans, I will provide a link to the wiki. Now some the explanatio might be quick,and for those I will put an * and explain at the bottom, but I don't want to interupt sections with heavy or long explantions. Any point after the straw hats enter the grandline will also have a spoiler tag on it, but this review will be mostly spoiler free outside of using things as a reference or example. ~~~img220(https://logolook.net/wp-content/uploads/2021/08/One-Piece-Logo.png)~~~ The adventures of Monkey D. Luffy and the Strawhat Pirates is a modern epic, a tale of found family discovering a vast world, finding new and unique people and cultures, and battling a whole range of characters. The sheer scale of the world Enichiro Oda has created is nothing short of awe inspiring. But before I spend the next 1000+ words gushing about this series, I have to adress the negatives. I have already adressed the padding and the pace issues it creates, but there are valid criticisms for the anime outside of this. __The Negatives__ The early arcs can range from meh to great and its very easy to see why so many people would drop the show before the second saga*. While no arc is bad, some in the anime can be a struggle to get through. ~!The long ring long nose arc being a perfect example of how padding can hurt the show. In the manga, this arc is much shorter and more densly filled with comedy. The anime grinds to a hault and while the arc is still funny, it drags on and because it is sandwiched between two other good arcs, it suffers!~ The animation for the show is another knock against it, while the newest arcs and episodes look amazing, the same cannot be said for most of the show. The overall look of the show has always been good and seeing the animation evolve over 2 decades is a wonder to see unfold. It doesn't change how not great the animation is for the first hald of the show. While the excuse that its an old show works, it doesn't hold up when examining the show as a whole. Toei Animation is infamous for its corner cutting and One Piece is a big victim of this. Not all arcs are great and enjoyment of them is subjective. The general formula for getting to new islands is usually the same, but things like the villain, the side characters, and the setting can be amazing for some and bad for others. Not every arc will be your favorite. The show might also just not be for you. There is no perfect product that everyone ever will enjoy. Give the show until like episode 30-40, this is the climax of what is considered to be one of the best early arcs. It really is what makes One Piece amazing and if you don't get into it from there, the show just isn't for you and thats ok. Side note for this section, unrelated to the material, but the community for One Piece is massive and it means there are tons of toxic fans. If you spend enough time around the show, you will run into one. Please don't let them ruin the show for you. ~~~img220(https://cdn.myanimelist.net/images/anime/6/73245l.jpg)~~~ __The Characters__ The characters in One Piece are incredible. From the seemingly endless amount of unique designs to the wonderful writing of not only the main cast but most of the villains and side characters, One Piece eccels with its characters. Luffy is one of the best MCs in shonen. Watching him fill up his pirate crew with interesting characters, each with thier own detailed stories and motivations is addictiing. The villains are all fascinating, each serving a different narrative purpose. Some are there to challenge ideals, while others are foils and cautionary tails for Luffy and his crew. Each Strawhat gets their time to shine, especially early on in the series. Each one grows and evolves with the story. The Strawhats are a family and you really feel that with how they interact with each other, the bicker, make jokes, and enjoy each others prescence. The dynamic of the crew can carry even the most boring or mundane of scenarios. So much of the series is just enjoying watching them be a crew. ~~~img220(https://cdn.myanimelist.net/s/common/uploaded_files/1447350221-41774e2d831c741252034f3e287dc61d.jpeg)~~~ __The World__ The world of One Piece as mentioned before is massive. The world is full and ever changing, with dozens of unique cultures, governments, powers, and races. The world building in One Piece is second to none. The world exists outside of just the strawhats with many large and small factions, world powers, and groups all clashing and interacting. Some of the best moments of the show come after arcs end. Seeing how the strawhats impacted the world and how the world reacts to them makes even the end and in between of arcs just as interesting as the arc itself. Watching closely and paying attention is often rewarded as small events or minor characters can eventually play a big role in the story. Because of how flushed out the world is, it makes connect with each of the crew's dreams. Their motivations become tangible and you can see the path to achieve them. The world itself is a character, its full of mysteries and always changing. Power dynamics are challenged and changed. Each action has an impact. The viewer gets sucked in, we want to discover the secrets of the world as much as any of the characters. __Tragedy and Comedy__ One PIece can be a very goofy show and comedy is a constant precense. While humor is subjective you learn to love each characters unique brand of humor. Even if not every joke lands it never cuts the tension of scenes or makes the show less enjoyable to watch, One Piece has mastered the balance of comedy and action and drama. Jokes flow seemlessly to action and never gets in the way of the serious moments of the show. Yes, the show is goofy and taking it to seriously can do more harm than good sometimes, but it doesn't mean its just that. One Piece will make you feel every emotion and have you on the highest highs and lowest lows. One Piece doesn't pull punches with what happens in the series. They make sure you know this by the end of the first couple episodes. >You think you're dealing with saints or something? You're looking at pirates This quote from episode 4 comes right after someone is shot in the head. One Piece doesn'y glorify death nor does it try to revel in some edgy moral greyness. In the world, people die and stay dead. Drawing a weapon means putting your life on the line. __The themes and Story__ While the scale of the story is massive it remains simple, Luffy wants to be the king of the pirates. The narrative when broken down like that is as simple as it is grand. The story is watching this journey and experiencing it with the characters. Never has "its about the journey not the destination" been more accurate. So many people watch the show trying to catch up, but they always burn out. The show is long because everything in it is worth experiencing. There are dozens of themes in One Piece. The show isn't just mindless adventure, there is depth to the narrative. The main theme of freedom is shown most by Luffy. A force that blows through places, someone who values his own freedom and the freedom of others higher than his own life. Luffy's ideals clash heavily with one of the main atagonstic forces of the show, The Marines. A tyranical force that deals out "Justice" to anyone who goes against them, The dominant force for most of the world. ~!The Marines protect and serve an elite class, the celestial dragons. Born into power, they own slaves of all races, look down on everyone, and have anyone they want killed. The hypocrisy of the marines often on full display such as them defending the slave trade and punishing the pirates who broke it up. Fascists control the marines and the marines take away the freedoms of people to enforce the whim of these tyrants. The few likable marines who disagree with the top are held down and shunned. Luffy despises this and many characters throughout the story serve as figures of rebellion. !~ There is so much meaning to be taken from One Piece and discussions over themes and moments can go on for hours. One Piece being so grand allows it to tackle these issues like systemic opression, racism, classism, prejudice, greed, etc. ~~~img220(https://static1.cbrimages.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2019/09/One-Piece-Monkey-D.-Luffy-Cropped.jpg)~~~ __The Music and Sounds__ The openings range from iconic to ok, but when you have over 20 of them thats bound to happen. The music in the show is powerful, despite using the same couple songs for certain moments, the weight and impact never go away. Like Ichigo's theme in blech or Sorrows and Sadness from Naruto. The Voice acting is top notch, you can't ask for more. (The dub is fine, they miscast a lot of characters and imo the dub makes the show less fun to watch) __The Visuals__ As mentioned, the animation get rough at some points, but Oda's art style is pleasing to look at. While some might find cartoonish, its hard to ague that some of the settings and Islands are fantastic to look at. The creativity of the manga shines through in the anime as motion and color is added to the world. Its definitely not perfect but its also not bad. The further you get in the series the more consistent the art becomes and the more stuniing the animation can get. There is also a charm to the older art style and the pre time skip* world. ~~~img220(https://wallpapercave.com/dwp1x/wp2027199.jpg)~~~ __Personal Enjoyment__ I love One Piece. I have been caught up with the anime for almost 3 full years and I still watch it weekly. It becomes part of your life when you get fully into it. Even through the rough parts I love the series. I will be the first to admit the anime isn't as good as the manga. With a new One Piece movie coming out, it will be the first time I get to see One Piece at a theater. One Piece has been my best friends favorite show for years and I gave it a shot after he pestered me to for a year. I am glad its something we now bond over. Sorry for the length of this review, One Piece is just that big of a series. i could probably talk forever about it, but this is a review not a discussion board. Reviews for One Piece have to be uniquely long and weirdly formatted to grasp the entirity of the show. In objective terms, one piece could be written a bit better, oda could've not drawn certain things certain ways, the anime is overly padded and maybe more filler would've made the show less slow like it did for naruto and bleach, but thats hindsight talking. I do wish Oda would take more breaks and that the anime studio would skip more weeks. I wouldn't mind it being bi weekly if it means better pacing per episode. __Conclusions__ Watch or read One Piece. Its a once in a lifetime property and we'll probably never have something like this ever again. It is worht the time. *One piece like other shounen is seperated into story arcs, but unique to one piece is that these story arcs fit into larger Sagas. *One piece has a time skip around the middle of the series (now more like 40-45% through). Its similar to other shonen and media. ~!There is a shift in design and tone as well as the characters getting new looks.!~
