Genre: Comedy / Slice-of-Life Also: Original anime, Cute Girls doing Cute Things (CGDCT) ~~~__The Opening Act~~~__ Perhaps oversimplifying things a little, this anime is about half-a-dozen pairs of Comedians learning and improving at the art of stand-up comedy. That's it, that's the entire story. Perhaps it's better to set the tone, then. This anime has almost no flair. It is the most grounded, down-to-earth, mundane thing I've watched in a long time. You can think of something like _Lucky Star_ and it's even more grounded than even that. There's little exaggeration in dialogue and actions, the characters are, at a physical level, basically real-life human in what they do and how they show it. That's sort of the show's hook. It wants to bring you down to its level, so far removed from even typical CGDCT shows in terms of expressiveness, so that it can level with you on a more relatable level. It understands that being a Comedian is a job, so for the most part, we're with the characters on that job, discovering new material, learning the audience, improving by learning from others, and getting help from friends and family, among other things. There's going to be laughs, both inside and outside their performances, but it's all natural laughs like the sort you'd have in conversations with your family and friends. So when I say "It's not for most people", this is what I mean. It requires the same patience that's needed when learning something new, like a new job. There's nothing "fantastic" to show you while you're watching, and nothing "relaxing" either. All the feelings you get out of this show come with the learning and successes and failures of the cast. Mild victories, moments of nothing, nervousness, casual laughs, those sorts of things. For most people, there will be better anime out there that hit emotions more strongly than this. __~~~What you get out of it__~~~ If you successfully let yourself get hooked in by the shows mood and tone, that's when the magic happens. Slowly but surely, the jokes get better, the characters grow as people, and everything feels earned, like they deserve it. Before you know it, this anime can become personal. You probably won't grow particularly attached to any character in this show, but what they're doing and how they improve? Certainly. You can start to really appreciate the process of making others have a good time. What you get out of this show is just an experience, and this is an experience you may want to see if you're looking at joining the entertainment industry or just want to learn something new. This anime feels like a passion project, and I can appreciate that. ~~~__The Technical Stuff__~~~ The Technical stuff doesn't matter. Normally I'd just say my usual for reviews that it doesn't matter unless it's egregious, but no, really. The Technical stuff (Art, Animation, Sound) __just doesn't matter__. The CGDCT shell helps make it easy to identify characters from any distance, and the animation / sound are perfectly fine for what this is. It's not the reason you'll watch the show, and you can rest assured that the animation and art won't take you out of the show at any point. It's smooth. ~~~__Verdict~~~__ For most of you, this should be a __hard pass__. Do not watch, cut my score in half, it will bore you to death. For the rest of you, whether you just watch anything & everything, or are interested in stand-up comedy, CGDCT, or whatever. I hope you'll get something nice out of this like I did, or at least a few laughs.
