Hellsing, a secret organization of the British government, has long been battling supernatural threats
to keep the people safe from creatures of the night. The current leader, Integra Wingates Hellsing
controls her own personal army to eliminate the undead beings, but even her highly trained soldiers
pale in comparison to her most trusted vampire exterminator, a man by the name of Alucard, who is
actually a powerful vampire himself. Along with Integra's mysterious butler and Alucard's new vampire
minion, Seras Victoria, The Hellsing Organization must face not only regular ghouls and vampires, but
a rivaling secret organization from the Vatican, and Millennium, an enigmatic group of madmen spawned
by a certain war over 50 years ago...
A bloody battle between monsters is about to begin, the dead are dancing, and all hell is singing...
"We ruin the countries we govern and the people in our care. We slaughter our enemies and sacrifice all our allies. We will keep killing till there is nothing left but to destroy ourselves. It will never be enough." ― Alucard, a.k.a., Владъ Дрьколъ (Vlad Dracula). Place: The United Kingdom. Time: The Present Day. Alucard is a vampire that works for Hellsing, an organization responsible for hunting down vampires in England. For some reason, England is not a safe place anymore, as well as some other countries. More and more vampire attacks are being reported in England. On top of that, one day, Alucard receives an order to destroy a group of vampires in a church. During his mission, he saves a police officer, Seras Victoria, making her his companion and turns her into a vampire. Now, Seras is a part of the Hellsing organization under the command of Integra Wingates Hellsing and the Hellsing organization is to find the culprit that is responsible for vampire attacks in the whole world. What organization is trying to turn England into dust and will the Hellsing organization be able to stop them? Find out the answer now. Truth be told, the story line of Hellsing Ultimate does not sound intriguing: watching how the most powerful vampire is killing other vampires and humans for 500 minutes cannot be interesting. However, Hellsing also has its philosophy and I must say that it is simply splendid: it is dark and very dramatic. I also would like to mention the fact that Hellsing Ultimate is not like some battle-shounen with overpowered main protagonists; Hellsing Ultimate is different and you will find out why. All I can say is that Hellsing Ultimate is a story about a man, who challenges the most powerful being in the whole world. Whether you will respect him, or hate him is up to you, but their duel is simply epic. Of course, it is not the only focus of this series: Hellsing Ultimate has many things to offer to you that I will, of course, will not mention in my review, so if you want to see an epic action with a grain of philosophy, I guarantee you that you will like the story of Hellsing Ultimate. Hellsign Ultimate mostly takes place in Europe, portraying different castles and famous places of interest. Most of the time, the series will show you old castles and spooky villages, and this series will do it so that you will surely remember it. Hellsing Ultimate is truly dark, gruesome, and cruel. But it is not the only good thing about the animation, Hellsing Ultimate has also quite beautiful characters. From the first to the fifth episodes the ending of each episode uses various pieces of instrumental music composed by Hayato Matsuo and performed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra. Episodes VI and VII feature vocal closing themes by Japanese rock group Suilen, titled "Magnolia" and "Shinto-Shite." Episode VIII has "When You Start the War, Fight With Arrows, Spears and Swords!", which was also in the original series. Finally, episode IX features Japanese singer Maon Kurosaki and her song "Scars." The music fits the series and I am sure that you will even find some pieces for your collection. By the way, both English and Japanese versions are good, so you are free to watch it in whatever language you want. The best part about Hellsing Ultimate is, of course, its characters. There are many characters and I am sure that you will find someone that will be truly interesting for you. Alucard is the main protagonist of the series. He is the most powerful worker of the Hellsing Organization and its the most powerful weapon. Alucard is no mere vampire; it has been implied that he is the most powerful vampire, he sometimes acts like a soulless creature that kills humans without a single thought; however, as the story line progresses, you will find out how humane this monster is. Seras Victoria is a human that due to some circumstances becomes a vampire. While she does not show enough development at first, she shines in the later episodes: in Hellsing Ultimate her role is mostly to restrain her master’s, Alucard’s, humanity. Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing is another protagonist of the series and the leader of the Hellsing Organization. She is the only protagonist that will annoy you. Not only the anime shows almost nothing about her past, but also her character is annoying as hell. Finally, Alucard’s enemies and the series’ antagonists: they either consist of people who want to kill Alucard in the name of God, or of people who are jealous of him, and, in my opinion, the series antagonists is the strongest part of Hellsing. As for enjoyment, I like this series and I rewatch it from time to time. The story of this series is dark and well-written, the animation, for the year it was made in, is breathtaking, the OST and the voice acting make you enjoy thins anime even more. However, there are also flaws. Alucard’s personality is so strong that it makes other characters shrink. Of course, there is Max Montana and he is, perhaps, the only character that is on the level with Alucard, but, in my opinion, there should have been more strong characters. I would not call it a serious flaw, but the fact that this series has weak supporting characters is the only reason why I cannot call this anime a masterpiece. All in all, Hellsing Ultimate is the series that has both action and philosophy. So, if you like to analyze characters and if you are a fan of spectacular battles, I am sure that Hellsing Ultimate will not disappoint you. To be honest, I cannot think of even one reason for you to not watch this series. Yes, it is long, but it should not be the reason for you to not watch it: take your time and try to understand this series. Without a doubt, it is not a masterpiece, but, in my opinion, this anime deserves its 9/10. I hope that you will enjoy Hellsing Ultimate as much as I did.
Since their inception, vampires have been one of the most popular supernatural creatures in horror. Their imposing status is backed by their array of powers, from their ability to fly to turning others into vampiric servants of their own. I remember back in the mid-to-late 2000’s when series like Twilight and True Blood were around. They wanted to seek out drama and romance in the world of the undead. Hey, if you got the right actors, even vampires could be sexy! I never bothered with either, but I remember seeing a lot of backlash against this move, criticizing the stories for poor writing or overdramatization. Maybe it was a call from the purists or enthusiasts against the newfound trappings associated with their beloved undead. However, another series was also introduced in the mid-2000’s (or earlier for the manga readers) that would give the extreme qualities back to the bloodsuckers – Hellsing Ultimate. Granted, a 13-episode series by Gonzo was produced in the early 2000’s, but it branched off from the original story due to lack of material. Hellsing Ultimate, a 10-episode OVA by beloved studio Madhouse, stays truer to the manga. Each episode is roughly 50 minutes in length, giving a volume’s length worth of material per episode. Though it may be the “ultimate” adaptation, is it a worthwhile watch? The story is fairly straightforward. Alucard, our vampiric protagonist, is the underworld mercenary to the Hellsing organization. He deals with all things related to the undead, mostly vampiric. An abnormal number of vampires in the town of Cheddar have started to spring up, alerting the Hellsing organization of someone planning something behind the scenes. This story unfolds to a battle of epic proportions, involving old foes from Hellsing’s past in a brutal bloodbath. This is a series that wants to be known for its action and violence, so naturally the story aims for whatever can provide the most extreme outcome. Almost every twist and turn in the story is meant to drum up emotion or shock. This can be a good and bad thing, as will be explained later. The first few episodes are a good way to introduce the story and some of the key characters of the tale. It’s a necessity, as the primary focus of the series is an all-night battle royale in London. Blood is shed to an absurd degree and, with each episode acting like 2 or 3 episodes of a normal viewing, it may become a bit tiring to watch. That said, the show is not nearly as gory or extreme in its display as one would think. It smartly “self-censors” some of the more brutal aspects of the show to keep its more curious viewers hooked while not letting down the blood enthusiasts. This isn’t an 80’s style OVA, but it sure will provide more barbarous moments than your average action show. Of course, what separates good action from the bad is found in its characters and Hellsing has quite a few. The protagonist Alucard is what you’d want out of a lead. Cool, cocky and charismatic, this vampire has a knack for getting in his opponent’s head as much as he gets his bullets in their body. You read that right – in addition to being a vampire, he also brands 2 guns that soften up the enemy before he has his way with them. Contrasting him is the stoic Integra Hellsing, the daughter of the late Arthur Hellsing. As the head of the organization, she orders Alucard and others to learn about and destroy all the vampiric foes attacking the local areas. She is fearless in all manners, not breaking away from her sternness in even the direst situations. Their butler, Walter Dornez, is an older gentleman who once bore the nickname “Angel of Death”. Though he does not possess any vampiric powers, his use of razor-sharp, near-invisible strings catch enemies by surprise and lead them to their demise. The last of the main troop is Seras Victoria, a former policewoman saved by Alucard. She has a friendly personality and provides more of the humorous or sweet moments on the show. Don’t be fooled, though: when she gets going in battle, her more vampiric personality traits start to show and she becomes far more aggressive. She provides a decent reference point for viewers as the newly formed vampire on the team to introduce us to the world of Hellsing. What’s probably the best part of the show is found in the character interactions and personality traits of each character. A hierarchy is found in the Hellsing crew, with Integra on top, followed by Alucard and Walter, and then Seras. It’s rather strange to let the member with the least battle-ready skills be on top, yet this paves way to some deeper meaning the show aims to scratch at. Alucard won’t attack unless given permission by Integra and these conversations reveal the true power dynamic at play. Alucard gets a strange sort of pleasure poking at Integra’s cold demeanor, aiming to make her as much a monster as he is. With such a deadly force at her disposal, one has to wonder if an enemy could be saved or if someone innocent could get caught in the crossfire. This is more lightly touched upon and, if given more time, would be an interesting look behind necessary sacrifice or war crimes. Other themes of humanity are explored, such as what qualifies as human in a show filled with supernatural creatures and body modifications. Even topics such as religion and their duties are explored in a strangely mature way. Yes, there is endless amounts of violence and irrational hatred driving some points, but some characters question their methodologies and what is right even if it’s what they’ve been told to believe. Father Anderson, the rival to Alucard, is a great example of this. Though an impassioned man hellbent on sending vampires to Hell (as well as an extreme dislike of Protestants), he grows more mature as he realizes the extremes his cohorts will go to. Coupled with his holy blades, he provides a great clash against Alucard and is always a joy to see on screen. Though the show is over-the-top and as bold as one could want, the show suffers from a few big problems. The pacing of the show is one of the first I could think of. The first few episodes are good to introduce what the show is about and its characters, but the meat and potatoes of the show is an all-night battle in London. So many opponents come into the mix, with millions of lives lost, that it becomes quite ridiculous to take in. The point is made clear by the villains that their efforts have been leading to this one-night blitz, but it often feels like more characters and fights are introduced for the sole sake of continuing the series. If this was a war anime with strategies and larger time spans between fights, it’d be more understandable but here it often comes off as mindless. As if it wasn’t enough, between these moments of action are rather long monologues, often repeating what’s already been said or known. It’s a sort of paradox – when you want action, they’re monologuing, but when you want a break, they’re adding more bodies into the mix. It comes down to a sense of timing more than anything else and other viewers may not see this as a problem. The biggest problem of the show I can see is in its development. The show has so many cool ideas, themes to explore, characters to introduce and yet does little with them. This is a show that’s begging for a prequel to explain character origins more clearly (which it technically did but was cut short for reasons that escape me). As a result, a lot of depth is lacking from the show and adds to that mindless feeling I described earlier. Some villains are a footnote in the show’s story despite being labeled as big threats – one villain treated as a major threat doesn’t even speak! This is honestly one of the few cases where a manga/anime is justified into needing more episodes. Maybe creator Kouta Hirano wanted to focus more on the action or felt he’d add on to certain details later but didn’t get around to it. Whatever the case, it really hurts what is otherwise a cool show brimming with ideas. Almost as a fallback to expanding out on these ideas is the final problem with the series: Alucard’s overpowered status. Now, it’s to be expected that the members of Hellsing need to be naturally tough to combat their enemies – after all, there’s only 4 main members of the group compared to the squadrons of the enemy. That said, it often makes me question how he was taken down in the first place. He has so many abilities and attributes that you often need a nation’s men to even think about tackling him. Even just having a regeneration ability can be busted as it makes any battle against him (or any opponent with a similar ability) the equivalent of fighting a wall. While that may be the point to this endeavor, it often makes each situation he’s in predictable and loses out on potential edge the show could have. It’s almost humorous trying to see what other busted powers the opponents have. What is usually a dominant force in any other show is treated as the bare minimum to keep up with the protagonist. This is the case for many unmoderated supernatural works. To give credit where it’s due, it often is displayed as “rule of cool” and those who enjoy the imagery or quips of Alucard will probably not mind this point as much. Hirano’s art style is accurately portrayed here, with its sharp outlines and big ringed eyes. Everyone seems to carry a cocky grin to boot, giving each character some form of assurance of their victory no matter the odds. Things can get bloody, but they never get too graphic as to turn your eyes away from the screen. Often, it’s a whole man in one frame followed by their limbs everywhere in the next. Despite being backed from Madhouse and given the OVA treatment, the animation isn’t always of the best quality. It can sometimes appear a bit choppy or make characters look a bit off in mid-shots (though this latter part can also be found in the manga as well). Most controversial will be the show’s use of CG for weaponry and large crowds. It’s not the worst but, like most CG, it sticks out like a sore thumb. The music department will be a real gem for most. Hellsing Ultimate has a varied soundtrack, ranging from rock to choral pieces and everything in between. Some songs will get you pumped, while others reminisce of stereotypical war songs. Sometimes the songs can be mashed-up, such as in ED 8. It starts off with a choir before plunging straight into a distorted boogie blues piece. I was recommended the English dub for this anime, a move that’s a bit out of my element as I usually watch subs. Crispin Freeman is the star of the show, with a deep menacing voice that shines as Alucard. It was a bit strange to hear at first and some lines felt a bit too “straightly spoken”, but by the end I could imagine no other voice. Other voice actors tried to match the setting by having varied English accents. Though there is some danger as to being “phoned in”, they all felt believable. Katharine Gray is as bubbly as you’d want for Seras while Victoria Harwood gives the voice to Integra’s commands. Sometimes the anger or tenderness is a bit misplaced, but they did a great job overall. It could be a bit of bias: after all, it’s easier to recognize atonal voice acting when it’s your native language. Overall, I give Hellsing Ultimate a 5.0/10. With enough time, this could’ve been the definitive vampire, horror and possibly action series. As it stands, it’s a treat for the fans of the manga and perhaps adolescent audiences, but not for me. Despite my rating, I still would recommend it to those who are looking for an action series that delves into the supernatural. My only condition would be that the viewer is looking for over-the-top action/powers but not anything more than that. Do you like or dislike this anime? If you haven't watched it, are you encouraged to watch it or not? Leave a comment on my profile telling me what you think of the anime and/or my review. Thanks for reading and have a blessed day!
__~~~This review may contain slight spoilers~~~__ The Hellsing Organization is an organization devoted to killing vampires. Integra Hellsing, Alucard, and Seras Victoria are members of this organization, with Integra being its leader. This anime depicts their journey through hell. _Hellsing Ultimate_ is a dark and gritty show about the nature of vampires and humans, featuring an interesting ensemble of a cast alongside a straightforward and simple story. It is bloody and gruesome, painting the screen red with blood. It never strays away from the depiction of slaughter. It is a mature show through and through, not just because of its gruesome violence but also in its atmospheric layer of darkness and chaos that stems from a story filled with corruption and tragedy. _Hellsing Ultimate_ is an action show, first and foremost, and it creates some of the most brutal and vicious sequences of violence ever. It does not shy away from showing men being brutalized and eaten by vampires, mobs of people getting pierced by the blazing storm of bullets, and vampires being reduced to shreds by both their own race and by humans alike. It is fun to watch the protagonists collide with various interesting characters along the way, and the sea of red that the show produces from these exchanges is a sight to behold. Unfortunately, the show is a good example of preferring style over substance, or rather, blood over substance. While there are fun scenes and moments, it is left as a superficial concept. "Y-Yeah!" Much like Seras' hesitant "yes, sir!", the show tries to incorporate deep themes surrounding morality and what it means to be a monster or a human, but it never fully commits to these ideas. There are a lot of interesting points of reflection and contemplation being thrown to the viewer, but they are reduced to a surface-level state as they are never fully given the attention they deserve. It is a shame considering that the show could have been more than just its simple vampire-action premise. It also does not help that the story itself is bare and does just about the adequate amount to showcase the vicious nature of violence without ever doing much with the themes it lays out. The characters of _Hellsing Ultimate_ suffer from lost potential. They are never expanded on and are unfortunately left lost in the huge puddle of blood. The protagonists had a lot of potential at being complex and thought-provoking characters. While Alucard and Integra are both the center of most of the moral conflict in the show's story, their thought-processes and musings are never fleshed out fully. Seras Victoria fares much better at character development, though the show could have also done much more with her as her inner conflicts concerning retaining her humanity are short bursts of flavor that do not leave a lasting taste. I still loved her though. The villains are the typical kind without much beyond being evil. For example, the Major's henchman are reduced to plot devices while the Major himself is a moving model of evil with not much else beyond that. The rest of the characters are reduced to the caricature of individuals that are surface-level at best, pointless at worst. _Hellsing Ultimate_ is ultimately an entertaining action anime that features extreme amounts of beautiful blood and violence. With that being said, the show never reaches towards a higher place thematically, leaving behind a trail of what could have been. P.S. Seras is best girl. Amen.
The last 15 minutes and 41 seconds of the last episode should not have existed. The rest of the show was perfect but that last quarter of an hour was pointless and retroactively ruined many powerful moments from the rest of the show. I advise that anyone who watches Hellsing does not watch these 15 minutes. I should note that this may have annoyed me a lot more than other people who have watched the show as it directly went against many of the things I liked about the show so much. I also loved every single moment of Hellsing, outside of this particular section so I was particularly disappointed and annoyed that it tarnished my experience (which is why I'm going it doesn't exist). So before I proceed to erase those last few moments from my memory, I shall try to explain the main reasons this last quarter of an hour is the bane of my existence. 1. ~!Bringing back Alucard is stupid. What was the point of doing this? His death was perfectly executed and one of the best moments of the show but the fact that he comes back 20 minutes later takes away so much from the scene in which he 'closes his eyes' and the emotional weight of it is completely diminished.!~ 2. ~!This leads on to the second point; if the show is all about The Major's plan to kill Alucard and the execution of that plan (which it seems to be from the fact that everything that happens is due to the Major wanting to put Alucard in a position were he has no choice but to absorb Schrodinger, making him 'nowhere'), then having all that build-up be undone with some weird 'Alucard just killed all the other copies bro cause he's Alucard' undermines everything that happened till that point. At least in relation to the main plotline, maybe not some side-line stuff.!~ I don't have much to say on the positives because I loved everything else about the show. The conflict, story, humour, relationships, characters and fight scenes were all just so well written and executed. Some characters and their arcs were done perfectly, nothing could have been done to make them better. The first ones that come to mind are Bernadotte, Anderson, Alucard (if it weren't for those last 15min) and The Major. ~!Bernadotte's death was genuinely heart breaking, even though he went out as he wanted to, with all guns blazing.!~ ~!Anderson's entire character arc and how he returns to ashes was also as perfect as possible, just such a well written character.!~ Now I can pretend the last bit of this never happened and give it the 100 it deserves for everything else that happened. I highly recommend Hellsing Ultimate but I strongly advise not watching the last 15 minutes and 41 seconds.

Ultimate is the faithful adaptation of Kouta Hirano’s manga an doesn’t have any relationship with the 2001 anime. ________ # ~~~ PRODUCTION~~~ ~~~img500(https://thumbs.gfycat.com/ClutteredElementaryAphid-size_restricted.gif)~~~ Hellsing was animated by three different studios. Sateligh is the one who uses CG in most scenes, by the way an awful CG. There is no fluidity and many rigid stances in the first OVA, except in a few moments. The lack of details in the scenarios and the ghouls (non-virgin humans bitten by vampires) seem to have come out of a Resident Evil game. However Sateligh studio was able to show improvement in quality as the animation goes on. But Madhouse and Graphinica can overhang. Both don’t use CG constantly and give more details to the scenes. OVAs are more than 40 minutes long, something out of commom. However, Tomokazu Tokoro’s direction maintains a dinamic pace, not making the animation dull or dragged. The action sequels are frentic and contains appreciable graphic violence. The Soundtrack is another spotlight, containing many different music styles. Gradus Vita and Merche Funebre porformed by the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra; Das Engellandlied by Hermann Lons and Broken English by Shaft are some examples. The voice cast perform a remarkable work. Jouji Nakata as Alucard can leave his voice stuck in the mind. ______ # ~~~ PLOT~~~ ~~~img500(https://occ-0-1068-1722.1.nflxso.net/dnm/api/v6/9pS1daC2n6UGc3dUogvWIPMR_OU/AAAABeZeA5slFSTTAb9AP5GIhKZ1jA31b-6ATn7mXChLMK53NgVE_bPrB2zK640gNPwKHlu1kcGJbIgEY2UnM5ah0WfUJRVeEUhqh6_aHCdauY2SjPx6.jpg?r=c4c)~~~ The Hellsing Organization defends the Queen and England against supernatural forces, using the vampire Alucard as its main weapon. In one of his Works, Alucard saves a policewoman, Seras Victoria, from the death by turning her into a vampire. After a series of events involving vampires, the Organization needs to find who is behind this cases. On a certain mission, Alucard and his new servant meet the Father Alexander Anderson, who works for Iscariot Organization, an organization of the Catolic Church who also confronts supernatural forces and is the Hellsing’s rival. After a unexpected fight against Anderson; Alucard, Seras and Integra Hellsing (the leader of the Organization) join the Iscariot to find out who is responsible for the cases of vampirism. Their investigation lead to a Nazi group led by a crazy Major that wants to start a new war. It’s generally agreed that Ultimate has a simple and dephless plot, however, in this case it’s funcional, because the adaptation of Kouta Hiramo’s manga is committed to delivering action from start to end. A more complex plot ain’t necessary. Although it Works, Hellsing Ultimate has poor background and many elements aren’t explained like the treason of Walter C. Dornez and how the Major became a cyborg. Perhaps it is in the narrative that Hellsing performs well, being thrilling and frenzied at several moments. Isolated and minor events will culminate in the clash of three forces. The OVA shows some inconsitency. How was a secret organization that deals with supernatural easily invaded by two low class vampires and a bunch of ghouls at daylight? Sounds a lot strange. Conveniences arise at times. Father Anderson sundenly appears from nowhere at unusual times. Luke Valentine comes out alive from inside Barskeville (an Alucard’s familiar) at the moment when Alucard is vulnerable, being able to drink Valentine’s blood and recover his powers. The plot armor received by Integra to avoid being hit by the Major’s bullets, who is shooting at close range (even if he has bad aim). The ridiculous comedy is a disposable element. It wouldn’t make difference if the comic situations disappeared. Ecchi moments always involving Seras Victoria and her big knockers. But those moments are rare and forgettable. ~~~img500(https://occ-0-1068-1722.1.nflxso.net/dnm/api/v6/9pS1daC2n6UGc3dUogvWIPMR_OU/AAAABaSUQsts--xA3PP9JK9vWCHen7cIwh-U-taWDESkdjvCIQNdyyTUlD-v608Nm52YCrpoc0RnMiGGyAkk0HA4nXOgmnE4K32W9nfQgqU-qPfECDmd.jpg?r=740)~~~ _______________ # ~~~CHARACTERS~~~ ~~~img500(https://dg31sz3gwrwan.cloudfront.net/fanart/263688/1268303-0-q80.jpg)~~~ Hellsing Ultimate features charismatic characters and most are badass as hell. Some of them looks or try to represent some aspect. __Alucard (Dracula):__ He’s the ace of the Hellsing and the most powerful vampire introduced in the story. A killing machine without remorse, he is the best definition of overpower character. Similar to his historical counterpart, Vlad III the Impaler, he is violent and bloodthirsty. Alucard is so powerful that he gets bored, always looking for a chellenge to match and looking for a end to his life. Strangely, Alucard claims that eternal life doesn’t exist, but he is unbeatable, it seems contraditory. Possibly portrays the stagnation of power. __Seras Victoria:__ The police officer turned into a vampire by Alucard. She is the most developed character in the animation, showing substantial evolution throughout the story. Childish and silly, Seras is reluctant to become a complete vampire, however after significant events, she abandons her fears and became a true vampire. Maybe the character is related with the loss of innocence. __Integra Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing:__ The leader of Hellsing Organization and descendant of Abraham Van Helsing. A decided and strong temper woman, she is the only one who can control Alucard and give orders to him, making her most fearsome than Alucard. Integra doesn’t show any regrets in her orders. She looks represent the ideal of chivalry, putting the honor and the duty above all. __Father Alexander Anderson:__ He is the strongest agent of the Iscariot and also the arch-rival of Alucard. He is a regenerator, give to him superhuman regeneration. Anderson always appears reciting a bible vercicle and speaking sermons. He represents the religious fanaticism. __Enrico Maxwell:__ A bastard rised in an orphanage by Anderson. He is the leader of the Iscariot Organization. Maxwell has lust for power and wants to became someone great. Considers himself owner of God’s will and act like a judge, condemning everything and everyone (non catholics). The character seems portray the corruption of the clergy and the abuse of church power. __The Major:__ His name is unknow. He was a member of the _Schutzstaffel_ (Nazi SS) and carries the ambition of the Third Reich. He’s the leader of the Millennium Organization and the responsible for the vampirism cases. Proclaims himself Alucard’s nemesis and he starts a war just to destroy him. The Major loves war in its many forms and follows the idea of total war. Even having started a war, he always knew that couldn’t win. The Major resembles a walking war propaganda, as is clear in his speeches. __The Doctor:__ The creator of the artificial vampires (The Last Battalion and most of the Millennium’s members) using Mina Harker (Alucard’s eccho) as the base material. Strangely, he thinks his research will benefit the mankind. He is the stereotype of mad scientist, putting the research in first place. __Walter C. Dornez:__ Integra’s butler and Alucard’s longtime companion. He’s the traitor of the Hellsing, being a secret member of the Millennium Organization. He is the most underused character of the main cast. It seems to represent the reluctance/fear of aging. However, the characters have no other facets or convincing motivations. The Major has no interest in explain his reasons, and according to him, he doesn’t need reasons (he did because he wanted to do). The same problem falls on Walter. By the way, much of the motivations are related to the destruction of Alucard, giving a unidimensional aspect to the characters. ____________________________ # ~~~REFERENCES AND THEMES ~~~ ~~~img500(https://observatoriodocinema.uol.com.br/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/hellsing-ultimate.jpg)~~~ Many references can be found. Integra uses Bram Stoker’s romance as base material to understand about vampires. Abraham Van Helsing, John Seward, Quincey Morris, Arthur Holmwood, Jonathan Harker and Mina appear in flashbacks and in the Alucard’s memories. Alucard’s return on the ghost ship bears a certain resemblance to Dracula’s arrival in London in the book. The high members of the Hellsing Organization are integrants of the Hound Table, a clear reference to Arthurian tales. Integra’s father, Arthur Hellsing, can be a homage to King Arthur or Arthur Holmwood, who helped in Dracula’s defeat. The Doctor shares some similarities with Josef Mengele, the SS officer and a doctor from Auschwitz concentration camp, being resposible for carrying out experiments on humans. At OVA 4, Hellsing makes his own version of the opera _Der Freischütz_. In the Opera, Caspar makes a deal with Samiel, the Black Huntsman, to get magical bullets, but Caspar intends to hand over Max’s soul, however Caspar plan doesn’t work and his soul is taken by Samiel. Rip Van Winkle became a vampire due to the blood of Alucard presente in Mina Harker. Winkle uses magical bullets as main ability, playing the role of Caspar. Alucard plays Samiel who will take Van Winkle’s soul. At the end, she is consumed in blood, flesh and soul by Alucard. ~~~img500(https://moshimoshisubs.org/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/helsing1.jpg) ~~~ The most in-depth topic found in Hellsing Ultimate revolves around the discussion about the humanity of being. The question is presented in many moments. Alucard, despite being a monster, had a sense of honor and can show empathy, just like he as did saving Seras. But, Alucard doesn’t know how to explain his reasons. Probably the resemblance between Seras and Mina, the woman who Dracula had some interest in several others adaptations of the book. Or, after so long living with humans, he started to act like them. Seras Victoria refuses to become a complete vampire, because she fears becoming a monster like her master, losing the rest of her humanity. Otherwise, Anderson doesn’t persist in becoming a monster (Monster of God), sacrificing his humanity to defeat Alucard once and for all. But, it is in the Major’s last words that the discussion gain more empahasis. He affirms to be genuinely human, even commiting inhuman acts and beign a machine. According to the Major, he distinguishes himself from a monster (Alucard) for possessing a will. In the philosophy, the will is the essence of the beign. Schopenhauer addresses the topic in his ideas. According to the philosopher, the human life is conducted by the will. It’s considered a kind of “God” present in all human beings. Despite containing this theme, Hellsing has no interest in developing it and it’s quickly forgotten, removing all the intelectual load that the animation could contain. _______________________ # ~~~CONCLUSION~~~ ~~~img500(https://start-tv.net/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/Hellsing_OVA_-_01_Seras_001055721-1024x576.jpg)~~~ In term of production Hellsing Ultimate can stay ahead, besides worrying about being as stylish as possible. It delivers an excellent quality action, wich can be good entertainment for some. However, the vídeo animation is desinterested in addressing something else, even if it can. But, Ultimate isn’t so dumb as they claim, if unraveled, it can show interesting aspects, but they are tiny. Alucard’s invulnerability is another factor that can bother, because nothing represents a real threat to him. If you espect to find something of great substance in Hellsing, pass away. It would be like going to a rock show waiting for Andrea Bocelli to take the stage.
Wow this was a long ass journey!!! It took me more than 3 months to finish this show and let me tell you that every minute of this show was worth it!!! I have never seen a show that has done action, characters, music, and storytelling as well as hellsing!!! It may seem edgy at first (because it is) but man that edginess is what makes the story so great!! I also loved the weird comedy the show had because it was just extremely unique from any comedy I have seen before and I just enjoyed it for the most part!!! There are some really memorable characters in hellsing and it truly is an epic without a doubt but man most of the characters are extremely flawed and even evil in some sense but they are still able to be compelling characters nonetheless. There isn't one character that wasn't great in hellsing and that's what I love about the show!! Even the main villain seemed over the top and like a fucking lunatic because he loves war enough to murder~! millions of innocent people in London and turn them to zombies but after you see how fucking evil and insane Arucard was, you actually start to pity him in his death. !~The only show that is even just kind of close in greatness is fmab but the thing that just pains me is how you're supposed to care about envy when he dies when he is the fucking worst out of all the sins and never ever feels sorry for what he did and instead his character development is "I kill humans because I envy them" THE FUCK!!!!!?????? That's just not a good reason but when you see a character like arucard who has ~!killed millions for pure bloodlust since he's a vampire but still does good time to time, you start too see the major as the righteous evil to some extent. !~Also a really good thing about hellsing is even though a character dies, you never cry for them but you get emotional for them nonetheless. I just really enjoyed this show and it's uniqueness is why I honestly think it deserves a 10. The music is extremely fantastic and fits very well with the whole theme of the show. At the start of the show, you can actually root for Arucard because he's killing the people who are trying to destroy London but after you learn of all the ~!bad shit he did in the past!~, which makes it harder to like him but he's such a well built character that even his flaws don't diminish him. Alexander Anderson was just great for the whole series and his~! final fight was just muah such a beautiful sight to witness. !~The animation is just spectacular and so are the characters. Seras Victoria started as comic relief but later like midway into the series, she becomes the best character because she doesn't kill humans for bloodlust and actually tries saving people so Seras is really the only good person in this whole anime. Her loyalty to Alucard is also extremely admirable and the love story between bernadotte and seras is also a beautiful story to witness. There are a lot of mature themes and violence and such but I did watch the uncensored version so if you don't want to see millions of people being mercilessly murdered or raped, then don't watch this show uncensored. Bernadotte was also one of my favorite characters because of how smart, cool, and how much of a badass he was. He was such a great character. Walter was also great even after ~!his betrayal to Hellsing became clear!~ so he was a very well executed character too. I just loved how stoic and badass Integra was because she would do whatever was needed to justify her ends of a goal. Well I'll stop talking about hellsing but long story short, watch hellsing ultimate it is worth your time and you will most likely enjoy it. I give this anime a 10/10.
If I had to describe my experience with Hellsing Ultimate in two words, it would be a tasteful bloodbath. What would have been another shockly style over substance vampire flick ended up being one of the most fascinating anime rides. No joke, this had no reason to be this good, given how shows like would have easily bombed. On the surface, the story is nothing out of the ordinarily. An organisation are on a mission to search and destroy the undead and supernatural forces of evil that will threaten the queen and the country. One of the main characters rescues a girl fatally injured during a mission, turns her into a vampire for a second chance at life and so on. Let’s be real here Hellsing has never been about the story, in fact in many instances, especially in the final 3 OVAs it is considered an afterthought. It has plenty of plot contrivances, noticeable plot holes and mediocre world-building. If you looking for a bloodbath that has a well-written story check out Berserk 1997, Parasyte or Higurashi When They Cry instead. You will think that the lack of narrative qualities will kill the show, but no because Hellsing Ultimate is the ultimate rule of cool anime. Unlike the majority of its rule of cool peers, Hellsing Ultimate isn’t afraid to have fun and blow stuff up. It’s loud, energetic, bloody and explosive. It doesn’t care if the narrative has holes or consistency issues it wants you to have fun as you follow Alucard, Seras and the Hellsing Origination companions blow monsters up as they go through an unforgettable bloodbath journey. It’s super absurd yet it mostly has a strong level of self-awareness. It loves to poke fun at its characters mainly through its comedic scenes during downtime. It’s well-paced, remains intriguing for the majority of its run and it’s generally a good time, despite the high bloodshed. This chaotic ride does have its faults, however. The pacing slows down significantly in the final 3 OVAs. It decided to tell a rather serious storyline while having good interiors that weren’t fully executed well. I always felt like the writing peaked in episode 7 with the Seras plotline. The characters are easily the best aspect of the OVAs outside the visuals. If you are not a fan of badass characters then your gonna hate Alucard as he is a textbook definition of a badass, that has so much style. He’s an absurdly powerful individual that will dominate everyone in combat, and he does it in style. The same thing can be said for his main rival Alexander and speaking of that. Alucard and Alexander rivalry is one of the best-executed rivalries I’ve seen in anime. These two play off each other to a tea, constantly commenting on each other and ditching their ideals. They will fight until one of them drops dead. On top of both being absurdly badass both Alucard and Alexander are flawed and compelling characters that have a lot of depth in them. I won’t go over them in detail as you should experience their character growth, just by watching the OVAs. Integra is one of my favourite authority figures/leaders I’ve seen in anime on par with Koko from Jormungand. I loved her sense of authority that she leashes out to her soldiers. She also has a soft where she cares about her soldier's safety. I liked how she kept an eye of Seras during her early vampire phase, making sure she doesn’t go out of control as well as making her accept that she’s a vampire. My favourite character in the show is Seras Victoria. I adored how the show handled her from beginning to end. From her adapting to vampire life, her tragic backstory to her entering personality, she is such a blast to watch. She’s a character that I can totally relate to as she had a very rough life prior to becoming a vampire. I also, like that despite all the awful things that happened to her she retains a sense of humanity. The rest of the characters are fun, memorable and well throughout. From the determined Pip, the playful Schrödinger to the anime equivalent of the joker The Major, Hellsing Ultimate is packed with interesting and entertaining characters. Hellsing Ultimate’s visuals are phenomenal. The animation staff of Madhouse (OVAs 5-7), Satelight (OVAs 1-4), and Graphinica (OVAs 8-10) did an outstanding job at bringing the world of Hellsing Ultimate to life. The character designs are strikingly memorable and unique, especially Alucard’s one of the best character designs to come out from this medium. The background scenery is very pleasant to eye, due to the heavy amount of attention to detail, accompanied by the sharp dimm colour palette. The animation is out of this world. Every fight scene is filled with bombastic energy that intensifies the action or in Hellsing’s Ultimate case brutal bloodbath. It’s well animated, smooth and it had little to no animation errors, let alone stock footage. The same phenomenal energy applies to the soundtrack. Orchestral, energetic that perfectly fits the mood and tone of each scene across the 10 OVAs. With that said I still prefer the soundtrack of the original Hellsing anime. As underwhelming as the original Hellsing Anime was, that adaptation had the decency to have memorable jazz, and rock soundtrack that gave that adaptation style. I feel like the Hellsing Ultimate soundtrack would have been defined if it had a lot more jazz and rock tracks, especially for the fight scenes. The English Dub is top-notch. One of the best English Dubs ever produced. Crispin Freeman flawlessly captured the savagely absurd Alucard. He may had some excellent performances such as Kyon from Haruhi Suzuiyma, Jeremiah from Code Geass, Zelgadis from Slayers and Togusa from Ghost in the Shell Stand Alone Complex, but his portrayal as Alucard is him at he’s best. Other noticeable performances include Steven Brand as Alexander and Katharine Gray as Seras. Just like with Princess Principal, Black Butler and The Ancient Magus Bride I applaud that actors that go for British ascents for most of the cast, let alone in Hellsing Ultimate’s case actually hiring two British voice actors. Hellsing Ultimate is a tasteful bloodbath like no other. It may lack a strong narrative, the amazing characters, visuals, soundtrack and overall rule of cool factor make up for it. It is one of a kind anime that represents the fun chaotic side of the anime medium and I'm glad it exists.
Ummm.....Sorry? Ok hear me out, I didn't forget about it(writing reviews) sadly i had lots of other
things do to but FORTUNETELY now I am FREE (put eren panel or what not).
So as a comeback review, what could be the best animanga review? Truth be told, IDK? So lets go with
the one I was rewatching today (Obviously you know which anime I am talking about). SO LETS BEGIN MY
REVIEW FOR HELLSING ULTIMATE (can't believe I am actually back lol).
1. SYNOPSIS- The story's Protagonist is Alucard (inverse of Dracula) who serves the 4th
Hellsing,Integra. Hellsing clan is known for exterminating "Monsters", pretty basic? I know, right? in
the first episode of it even I thought it's just some random anime with coolass protagonist but I AM
GLAD THAT I WAS WRONG!!!!!!!! It had
NAZI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ok ok I know I did it a bit too much.
2. Character design/Animation- Despite being animated almost 2 decades ago, the animation easily holds
it's candle without a problem because of character design and the asthetics, I also love how
charismatic Alucard is and yeah the animation is probably the best we got that year even though it had
Deathnote, Black Lagoon,Fate etc as competitors but yeah what else can you expect when an anime is
being created by 3 STUDIOS (one of them was Madhouse iirc).
3. Voice Acting- Personally, I would say they did a great job in that, especially with those english
slurs and the casting was easily one of best I have seen in Anime (uk......while writing this, I
realised I have never updated hellsing on my acc), I mean even I would pick Jouji Nataka for
Alucardooooooo haha and yeah same could be said for most of the cast.
4. Characters- THIS IS THE BEST PART I REPEAT THIS IS THE BEST PARTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!. Every character
in it are really charasmatic and they as badass (in a good way). From Major to Penwood every one of
them had some impact on me and if we are talking about backstories, all of them were great though I
would personally say they didn't had to add "those 2 scenes" in Seras and Alucard's backstory (I was
fine with Alucard one since it was one of the best way to show his growth but not the Seras one).
5. Dynamics- There were lots of different types of dynamics in Hellsing and tbh I loved every single
one of those dynamics........since there are different types of them let's classify it?
~Protagonist/Antagonist about Humanity- One of the MAJOR focus was upon this dynamic, whether it's
about AlucardXAlexander or AlucardXMajor or someone else (I don't wanna spoil that one) every one of
them left a great impression on me. Now, let's talk about it, Alucard himself considers that only a
human (who doesn't feel that they aren't enough to kill ALucard by their own strenght) are the one who
has the AUTHORITY of killing him. Giving away your humanity just so you can defeat Alucard? that's a
"NO" from him which is the exact reason why I loved Major's character, even if Integra and MYSELF
don't think he is human by ANY means the fact his monologue about "What makes you human" was beautiful
and I totally agree to it. (Alexa play "I am only human afterall")
>
~Master/Servant- The Dynamic between Integra and Alucard was also great and those last 25 minutes of
the series poured a lot more impact on it and I loved the fact [Alucard asked her to drink her blood],
this scene a lot more depth to their dynamic since [When Alucard drinks someone's blood they get added
to his soul and it would never separate them] other than that Seras and Alucard also had fun dynamic,
and it really pique'd my interest when Seras wasn't ready to drink blood because she thought it would
make her like her master. BUT Seras and Integra scene was a bit too sus (enough to recreate that
"which is more lesbian? being lesbian or whatever the fk these 2 are doing!!!!")
6. Turnoff Point- A lot of people had dissatisfaction with those last 15 mins which I can understand
(even I think it would be for the best that those last 15 min didn't exist) but yeah just because of
those 15 mins this story shouldn't get hate (have seen a lot of people hating on it). If you still do
wanna hate let me remind you of a beautiful thing which happened in those 15 min.~! [Integra letting
Alucard drink her blood].!~
7. Overall- DON'T WAIT, JUST GO AND FKING WATCH IT, IT'S STRAIGHT GOLD, animation to story to VA,
everything is straight banger and I would even reccomend the manga because anime did skip a few things
but that DOES NOT hinders your experience at all (I can gurantee) but still if you wanna, you can read
the manga because the art isn't bad at all.
